Chapter 40: Covenanted Throne [GT Bonus - ]
Looking at this familiar masked figure, Lucien unconsciously muttered Seraphina’s name. For some strange reason, he felt warmth, as if he could say he was home.
Even though she was responsible for this, he realized that he wasn’t really interested in completing the mission since it brought no rewards.
He didn’t know when he left his mother, who didn’t stop him but looked at both of them with an ambiguous gaze. Her eyes held a mix of curiosity, surprise, and something else, perhaps hope.
David appeared beside her, clearly surprised by what his eyes beheld. His brow furrowed, his lips parting slightly as if to speak. He wanted to ask his wife, but she gave him a sharp glare, silencing him before he could utter a word. Her message was clear: Do not disturb them.
Lucien didn’t know when he opened his arms, in a T-stance, waiting for her to enter his embrace. His heart pounded in his chest, uncertain of what he was doing, yet unable to stop himself.
Seraphina didn’t think twice. She disappeared and appeared in Lucien’s embrace.
She hugged him with all of her might while her head rested on his chest, and she began sobbing. Her body trembled against his, her fingers digging into his back as if she feared he would vanish if she let go.
Lucien was surprised when he heard her sobbing tone and felt her tears dropping on his bare chest. Each tear was warm, each sob a crack in the cold and obsessive facade he had always known.
It felt as if thunder had struck Lucien. She was crying.
Lucien checked again. She was really crying. This was the first time he had seen her cry. It was surprising and shocking.
Seraphina continued to hug him, as if she wanted to squeeze the hell out of him. Her grip was unrelenting, her embrace desperate.
Lucien froze as he realized she was squeezing him harder, and it was becoming something he could barely withstand. His ribs ached under the pressure, his breath growing shallow, his lungs struggling to expand.
Lucien forced a smile as he whispered into her ear, "You are going to snap me into two."
And she really was going to, with the immense force she was using to squeeze him. His bones creaked in protest.
Hearing this, Seraphina froze. Her grip loosened instantly, her body going still. She pulled back slightly, her tear-streaked face looking up at him. She reduced her grasp on him as she left his arms unwillingly, and a bit relieved for what happened. Lucien was safe.
After they separated, Lucien looked at his parents, whose gazes were dying to know who she was to Lucien. Their eyes darted between them, filled with unspoken questions.
Lucien smiled and said, "Mum, Dad, meet my wife, Seraphina Drax."
Everywhere became silent. Only the echo of Lucien’s words remained, hanging in the air like a proclamation.
Even though his parents knew their relationship wasn’t ordinary, they hadn’t thought it had reached the stage of being married already. Valyra’s eyes widened. David’s jaw tightened slightly.
Meanwhile, in Seraphina’s mind, his words buzzed like a symphony. She looked at him in shock, never expecting him to say that. Her heart raced, her breath caught in her throat.
This was the first time since they had known each other. She removed her mask, revealing her face as she smiled. Her golden hair caught the light, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears of joy.
The joy in her heart couldn’t be contained. Her darling had accepted her. He was hers only.
Thinking of this made her eyes glow with an unknown spark for a moment, a flash of something ancient and possessive.
"So she is the daughter of the head of the Drax Clan," David muttered as he looked at Seraphina. "It seems that one can’t underestimate the Drax Clan."
He smiled in a meaningful manner, his eyes narrowing slightly as he studied her.
"Yes, Dad. She is indeed." Lucien grinned as he confirmed it. Seraphina’s gaze snapped to him in surprise, not expecting him to hide her identity.
Lucien flashed her a smile. There must be a reason why she was hiding her identity. This was what he believed.
His parents looked at Seraphina, clearly doubting the news a bit. Valyra’s brow furrowed. David’s eyes held a glint of suspicion.
"Greetings, Father and Mother. My name is Seraphina Drax, your daughter-in-law." Seraphina introduced herself, her gaze unwavering as she spoke.
The confidence, the dominance of those words shook his parents’ hearts. The air around her seemed to shift, her presence filling the space with an unspoken authority.
They looked at Lucien, their gaze questioning how he had done it. Their son, who they believed to be trash, had captured the heart of such a powerful person.
They knew that Seraphina was powerful, even stronger than them, so this felt like a dream. A surreal, impossible dream.
Looking at his parents’ gaze, he shrugged his shoulders in a helpless manner. How could he say that he didn’t chase after her, but she chased after him?
Even though he hid, ran, did everything he could, even faced death, but even at the end, he wasn’t able to escape.
She was literally obsessed with him.

The system notification came so suddenly that it shook Lucien. Before he could process its words, an intense pain erupted, not from his body, but from deep within his heart, as if something ancient was clawing its way into existence. His vision blurred, his knees buckled, and he slumped to the ground.
His sudden fall shook his parents and Seraphina, who were instantly at his side. Worry etched across their faces as they saw him gritting his teeth, his body trembling, sweat beading on his forehead.
"What’s happening?" Valyra cried out, her hands hovering over him, unsure of what to do.
David’s eyes narrowed, his hand instinctively reaching for his blade. "Something is drawing Originat..."
Suddenly, Originat was drawn toward Lucien’s location with immense speed, creating a large influx that swirled around him like a vortex. The energy was so dense that the air around him shimmered, and the ground beneath his feet began to crack.
This shocked Lucien’s parents, who almost had their jaws drop from seeing this phenomenon. Even Seraphina’s eyes widened, her composed demeanor cracking for a moment.
As the Originat was absorbed into Lucien’s body, the pain began to subside. His breathing steadied, his trembling ceased. But the calm was short-lived.
Suddenly, across the entire Aethelgard, the clouds parted. The sun seemed to withdraw, its light dimming as if it, too, was waiting. The entire world felt as if it had shut down, silence fell, the wind stopped, even the sounds of nature faded into nothing.
And from the shadows....
