Chapter 88 - 87: You’re a Wild One
The weakling across from him who could control plants had been unintentionally taken out by the Vajra Lion’s Roar.
That’s right, from He Xiaotian’s perspective, the "unusual person" Wu Feng, who the system had notified him about, was a total pushover.
’The distance wasn’t even that great. I just shouted twice and you keeled over dead. If that’s not weak, what is?’
’Look at Captain Lei from the Cleaner organization. Sure, his landing wasn’t exactly graceful—it was ugly on a celestial level, like he’d been brutally ravaged by a dozen amazons each weighing over five hundred pounds.’
’But at least the guy was still alive.’
"Storm."
The three remaining black-robed men weren’t actually in much better shape than Lei Yang.
They had endured the first Lion’s Roar, but they never expected He Xiaotian to have the strength to let out a second one.
And so, every last one of them was hit.
The only one still mostly fit for battle was this guy who could control wind—or, more accurately, air.
As powerful as the Vajra Lion’s Roar was, it was still fundamentally a sound wave; the only difference was that the shout was powered by Inner Strength.
He had at least managed to block it slightly with a barrier of air—though only a small portion of the attack.
The other two suffered from the negative effects of Courage -5, Sanity -5, and bleeding from their seven orifices, leaving them temporarily unable to fight.
This was already a stroke of luck amidst their misfortune; if they had suffered the "Shattered Organs" effect, they would have kicked the bucket long ago.
A violent gale descended, so powerful that it scraped a layer off the very ground it passed over.
Lei Yang, who was in its path, had the worst luck. If it weren’t for the protection of the shadow that Captain Su had become, he probably would have suffered even more.
Worse, the gale was laced with razor-sharp wind blades, making it virtually impossible to defend against.
Unfortunately for the black-robed man, he had clearly underestimated the strength of He Xiaotian’s physical body. The wind blades, which had always been unstoppable, proved completely ineffective.
The sharp wind blades, like they were forged from refined steel, only managed to shred his clothes when they struck his body.
They didn’t even leave a white scratch on the skin underneath.
This discovery nearly made the black-robed man’s eyes pop out of his head.
’It’s one thing to be strong enough to brute-force your way through Wu Feng’s three man-eating flowers, but what the hell is this about your body just ignoring my wind blades?’
’"Invulnerable to blades and spears" is supposed to be a figure of speech.’
’Can a body that’s truly impervious to blades and spears, immune to fire and water, actually exist in this world?’
’It has to be some kind of unknown ability.’
’But how many damn abilities do you have?!’
’Compared to you, we feel like unlucky noobs who just ran into a player with god-tier luck.’
’Everyone’s supposed to get one awakened ability, so on what grounds do you get to have several?’
’On what grounds?!’
The black-robed man who controlled the storm was starting to lose his mind.
This feeling of fighting against one of heaven’s chosen favorites was just too damn awful.
He even felt that if, by some chance, he managed to get the upper hand on He Xiaotian...
...the guy would probably just have a sudden burst of power, pull off some dramatic comeback, and then viciously KO him, pinning him to the ground for a brutal beatdown.
"What a weak little breeze."
"PFFT!"
He Xiaotian stood in the middle of the gale, ignoring the black-robed man’s wind blades, and muttered to himself.
His words caused the "unusual person" from the Gourmet Kitchen to spit out a mouthful of blood on the spot.
’I’m fighting for my life here, and all I get is a "weak little breeze" rating.’
’Between the two of us, who’s supposed to be the villain here?’
To be honest, He Xiaotian wasn’t trying to mock the black-robed man. The one who was actually putting pressure on him was the guy who had turned and walked into the ancestral hall.
In his senses, that person had no special aura whatsoever, just like an ordinary person.
After his > had leveled up again, it would have been strange if the Wind Man could put any real pressure on him.
Those fifty thousand Experience Points weren’t spent for nothing!
"I discovered something interesting. Want to see?" As soon as the words left his mouth, He Xiaotian ignored the Wind Man’s expression, raised his hammer, swung it in a wide arc, and smashed it violently into the ground.
"RUMBLE!!"
A semi-circular shockwave abruptly spread out.
It was accompanied by raging, azure flames.
Like a hurricane sweeping through, anything in its path met the same fate: to be turned to charcoal and burned to ash.
"Wind Wall."
The Wind Man didn’t dodge, holding his ground.
Behind him, a sacred ritual was taking place.
He absolutely could not allow He Xiaotian’s attack to disturb the proceedings inside in the slightest.
A colorless, transparent, highly compressed wall of dense air rose before him, poised to block the semi-circular, fiery shockwave.
The anticipated, earth-shattering explosion never came.
Instead, an unexpected sight unfolded before the Wind Man.
The flames clinging to the shockwave, upon hitting the wind wall, spread out evenly and flowed along its sides.
Then, at the edges of the transparent wall, they wrapped around and closed in.
In an instant, the azure flames wove themselves into a fiery net that descended upon the three men.
It all happened in a flash, too fast for anyone to react.
The last one standing, the Wind Man, had no time to escape before he was engulfed by the net of fire.
As for his two companions?
They were utterly powerless to resist.
"AGH—!"
A bloodcurdling scream tore through the sky above Zhou family Village.
The three men were instantly dismembered, reduced to chunks of shredded flesh.
’Fire Control Power +10. To think my control over flames has improved this much. Before, I could only use it as a protective aura or imbue my hammer to damage enemies. But now... if I wanted to pose as a fire-type "unusual person," I doubt anyone would see through my disguise.’
As He Xiaotian spoke to himself, lifelike figures of the twelve zodiac animals, all formed from flame, appeared before him.
’Maybe I can create a fire-user alt account in the future?’
But as soon as he said it, he shook his head.
The azure flames were just too recognizable.
If he used them, most people would probably connect them to his identity as X.
In the upper-left corner of his vision, three notifications popped up in succession.
[Ding! You have successfully killed the Wind Controller, Qi Long. You have gained 8000 Experience Points.]
[Ding! You have successfully killed the Gourmet Kitchen’s technically modified subject, Liang Bo. You have gained 3500 Experience Points.]
[Ding! You have successfully killed the Gourmet Kitchen’s technically modified subject, Feng Gang. You have gained 3500 Experience Points.]
A total of fifteen thousand Experience Points banked.
[Experience Points: 93,000 -> 108,000]
His total had once again surpassed the one-hundred-thousand mark.
’But of these four black-robed men, only two were "unusual people"? The other two were "modified"?’
’Modified... like Liang Kun was?’
"CREAK!"
The door to the ancestral hall was pushed open from the inside, and the black-robed man who had entered earlier reappeared.
He glanced around, shook his head, and sighed. "You’ve all disappointed me. The only consolation is that Lord Food King was not mistaken about you. According to the Gourmet Kitchen’s intelligence, you are a ’wild’ powered individual.
"Oh, my apologies. Please don’t mind my use of the word ’wild.’ I should have said a civilian practitioner. To be able to cultivate to such a level on your own, without any guidance or resources... you truly are a genius."
He Xiaotian: "..."
’No, no, no, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not an "unusual person" at all.’
’If I told you I just know martial arts, would you even believe me?’
