Chapter 79 - 78: Uncle, My Ass
He Xiaotian woke up around three in the morning, roused by a full bladder.
Opening his eyes, he groggily saw Zhou Yun on watch, holding a tablet.
As he got out of bed, he startled her.
When she saw it was He Xiaotian, Zhou Yun let out a sigh of relief.
He staggered to his feet and walked over, noticing an idol-scouting reality show playing on it.
All the young men on screen were ridiculously handsome.
No wonder she was so engrossed.
Even extraordinary individuals needed to live a little and relax.
"Do you know where the bathroom is?"
His voice was thick with sleep; he clearly wasn’t fully awake.
In a small inn like this, something ten years out of date, you couldn’t really expect the owner to put a bathroom in your room.
As He Xiaotian asked, he suddenly noticed that Lei Yang was nowhere to be seen in the room.
Captain Su and Zhao Lei, however, were sound asleep and drooling.
"Huh? Captain Lei isn’t back yet?"
"No. I went to the bathroom earlier and saw he was still talking with the owner." Zhou Yun shook her head and added, "The bathroom is on the first floor, at the very end of the hallway."
"Alright, thanks."
With that, He Xiaotian pushed the door open and left.
He had just turned to go downstairs when he heard a THUD THUD sound from the far end of the second-floor hallway, like a basketball hitting a wall.
Any normal person would have curiously turned back to see what was making the sound.
Unfortunately, He Xiaotian was clearly not a normal person.
Besides, he was still overwhelmed by sleepiness. The only thing that mattered was getting to the bathroom and coming back to sleep.
He paid it no mind and continued to turn left.
The thudding stopped abruptly.
It seemed the source hadn’t expected He Xiaotian to react as if he’d heard nothing at all.
"Mister..."
At the top of the stairs, a little boy with his head bowed suddenly appeared.
Before he could finish, He Xiaotian, mid-yawn, reached out and shoved him aside.
"Get out of the way. ’Mister’? Do I look that old to you? Don’t block my path to the bathroom. You delay me any longer, and you’ll be washing my pants for me tomorrow morning."
"???" The little boy stood frozen on the spot, completely dumbfounded.
’Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to be doing?’
And so, he just stood there rigidly, watching as He Xiaotian went downstairs to take care of business.
When the two-meter-tall figure disappeared from the boy’s line of sight,
the face that had been bowed toward the floor instantly twisted with rage and malice.
’I’m a ghost! I’m a ghost! I’m a ghost!’
He roared internally, wishing he could rush down and devour the He Xiaotian who dared to ignore him.
Downstairs, He Xiaotian saw Lei Yang chatting and laughing heartily with the owner.
In front of them was a plate of peanuts and two bottles of Erguotou.
They must have gotten carried away with their chat.
Ignoring the two of them, he headed straight for the far end of the first floor.
’First things first, take a leak.’
’Wait, wasn’t there a kid on the second floor just now?’
Mulling over the recent encounter, he reached out and opened the bathroom door.
"Mister..."
Once again, the little boy appeared before him.
"Give me a minute, I have to use the bathroom first." He Xiaotian reached out and, with one palm, pressed him into the wall. Yes, that’s right. He literally pressed him *into* it.
The cement-set porcelain tiles shattered under the immense force.
"?!"
’What the f—’
The little boy was utterly at He Xiaotian’s mercy, completely subdued.
’This guy doesn’t play by the script at all! He won’t even let you finish speaking!’
The sound of urination began. The boy glared at the unknown brute pinning him with his left hand, his eyes practically shooting fire.
SWISH!
The figure flickered and vanished.
’Huh? So it really was an evil spirit. But why didn’t Captain Lei and the others notice it?’
After relieving himself, He Xiaotian felt refreshed in both body and mind.
’If I hadn’t promised Lei Yang and the others I wouldn’t act rashly, I would’ve whipped out my hammer and smashed the boy to bits long ago.’
’Of course, there was another reason for his mercy. I figured this little guy was just some low-level nobody who wouldn’t give many Experience Points. It wasn’t worth spooking the hidden Mirror Spirits over such small fry.’
Fastening his belt, he walked out of the bathroom. Seeing the two men clinking glasses, He Xiaotian wore a look of utter exasperation.
’Is it really a good idea to be drinking like this during a mission?’
STOMP STOMP STOMP...
"Mister..."
The little boy appeared again. This time, he was holding his own head, which was bleeding from all seven orifices, and speaking in a sinister voice.
He Xiaotian sighed, crouched down to the boy’s level, and looked him in the eyes.
"Little guy, how many times does Big Brother have to tell you? Don’t call me ’Mister.’ Come on, come on, let Big Brother show you something really special!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a sledgehammer weighing over three hundred pounds and as tall as a man suddenly appeared in his hand.
Then, before the boy’s dumbstruck gaze, He Xiaotian’s entire body erupted in violent cyan flames as he swung the hammer down hard on the stunned ghost.
BOOM!!
The entire two-story building trembled from the impact.
The solid, steel-reinforced concrete floor instantly blew apart.
[Ding! You have slain a low-level White Wandering Soul. Gained 100 Experience Points.]
He Xiaotian facepalmed and cursed.
"I knew it."
The boy had provoked him time and again; there was no reason not to send him to the afterlife.
As the saying goes, you can get a second chance, but not a third.
’Since you were so eager to die, I was happy to oblige.’
’Damn it!’
’Go call someone ’Mister’ in hell!!’
BANG!
The door to their room on the second floor flew open, and Captain Su and the other two rushed out.
"What’s going on?!"
Lei Yang and the owner had also slammed down their cups and now appeared at the top of the stairs.
"Nothing much. Just taught a brat a lesson."
He said it so casually. And why shouldn’t he?
’What’s there to brag about with an evil spirit worth a measly 100 Experience Points?’
’He’d be embarrassed if word got out!’
"Grandson! My grandson!"
The inn owner rushed over. Seeing the hole smashed through the floor, he began to wail in anguish.
Not a trace of his grandson’s aura remained.
It was clear he’d been beaten so badly his soul had scattered, never to be reincarnated.
"Oh, so he was your grandson? Sir, it’s not my place to say, but how did you raise this kid? The moment he saw me, he started calling me ’Mister.’ Do I look that old?" He Xiaotian said, shouldering his hammer with a look of profound disappointment.
Of course, no one else could see the hammer.
"You just wait! All of you will die tonight! Not a single one of you will leave Zhou family Village alive!" the old man shrieked, looking up with hateful, bloodshot eyes.
As soon as he finished speaking, he nimbly dove into the hole and into the room below.
"Trying to run?"
He Xiaotian was not having any of it. ’Act all tough, drop a threat, and then just leave?’
’Did you ask my hammer for permission?’
He stomped his right foot, unleashing the force of ten thousand jin. The floor instantly shattered, and his body fell through after it.
By now, the old man had already opened the room’s door and was dashing toward the inn’s entrance with incredible speed. He didn’t look like a frail old man at all; he was more like an agile monkey.
He Xiaotian bent his legs and, like a raging bull, charged headfirst through the wall, following with a thunderous crash.
"Come on, come on! Let me smash you with this hammer first! If you’re still alive after that, then we can talk about how I’m supposedly not getting out of Zhou family Village!"
