Chapter 70 - 69: [My Buddies and I Were All Dumbfounded]
In an instant, the eyes of everyone in the room turned vacant, filled with bewilderment.
Before falling under the spell, Captain Zheng wished he could have slapped himself.
’Speak of the devil. Why’d you have to show up the moment I worried about it?’
’Do you have to be so predictable? You’re a freaking evil spirit!’
After falling for the trick, his only thought was, ’X, it’s all up to you now.’
’I hope you weren’t just bullshitting earlier.’
’Otherwise, we’re probably all going to be wiped out.’
But He Xiaotian, the one in whom they had placed all their hopes, looked just like them—his eyes vacant, like the idiot son from next door.
A hint of confusion appeared in the eyeball on the mirror.
’This two-meter-tall giant... I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere before.’
Then it watched as He Xiaotian mechanically shuffled toward the wardrobe mirror.
"???"
’I don’t think I’m the one making him walk over here!’
But when it saw the others in the room contorting into all sorts of bizarre positions, it seemed to understand.
Compared to the others, He Xiaotian’s behavior was actually quite normal.
At some point, Captain Zheng, Zhao Lei, and the British Butler had all ended up in a three-way hug. The grown men had expressions of pure bliss on their faces.
They looked for all the world like they were getting the full spa treatment at a shady massage parlor—it was as sleazy as it gets.
Only Zhou Yun stood frozen in place, as if she’d been hit by a paralysis spell.
Before the Dream Eye could react, the vacant-faced He Xiaotian was already standing right in front of it.
The next second, his previously vacant eyes instantly became sharp and focused.
Cyan flames erupted violently across his body, distorting the very air around him.
Looks of pain appeared on the faces of everyone else in the room.
He Xiaotian’s right hand shot out like a bolt of lightning, and in an instant, he had clamped his hand down over the eyeball on the mirror.
"You got the drop on me once. You think I’d fall for that again?"
he snarled at the Dream Eye struggling in his palm.
’Those five points in Spiritual Power and five points in Illusion Technique Resistance weren’t for nothing.’
He Xiaotian had broken free almost the instant the Dream Eye appeared and cast its Illusion Technique.
But he wanted to make sure the eyeball wouldn’t retreat back into the mirror and escape as it did last time.
So, instead of acting immediately, he’d pretended to fall for the illusion, staggering toward the wardrobe mirror.
TSSSZZZ!!
The distinctive, greasy smell of flesh searing at a high temperature wafted through the air.
"Die."
With a bonus of twenty-seven points in strength and nine in explosive power,
forget an eyeball—even a piece of steel would be no different from a lump of clay in his terrifying grip.
POP!
Yellow-green fluid splattered everywhere, and everyone in the room snapped out of the Illusion Technique.
"What happened?"
"?!" Zhou Yun stared at Captain Zheng, Zhao Lei, and the British Butler all wrapped up in a hug. Her expression was one of utter disbelief, as if she were Columbus discovering the New World. "You... you... you three? Eek!"
The scene was too much for the young woman; she covered her face with her hands and bolted downstairs.
[Ding! You have slain the Dream Eye and obtained 10,000 Experience Points.]
The text in the upper-left corner of his vision flickered, and a line of information appeared. He Xiaotian’s eyes instantly lit up.
’Not bad, big eyeball. You’re actually worth two Mirror Spirits and fifty kappas.’
"Why are you hugging me?"
Captain Zheng asked, his expression dark.
Zhao Lei’s face screamed, ’What the fuck?’ ’How did I end up hugging the captain?’
’I could have sworn it was Zhou Yun...’
’And could you have some shame?!’
’You’re only talking about me hugging you, as if you weren’t hugging me back.’
"My God!!"
The British Butler was completely bewildered.
’Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to be doing?’
’I’ve always been so good at hiding the fact that I like men.’
’Why did I suddenly lose control today?’
Captain Zheng and Zhao Lei both turned to look at the British Butler, whose expression was a mixture of embarrassment and... enjoyment. It seemed they had just discovered something extraordinary!
"What in the world are you all doing?"
A voice laced with anger drifted from the doorway, reaching the ears of the blissful trio.
They turned to see Liu Rui standing there with Zhou Yun and his bodyguards.
"Mr. Liu, please, don’t misunderstand," Captain Zheng said with a grave expression. ’If word of this gets out, I can kiss my dating life goodbye. I’ll be branded as gay for sure.’
"Then could you please let go of each other first?" Liu Rui replied, feeling a headache coming on. ’Don’t misunderstand? The three of you are clinging to each other for dear life. How am I supposed to *not* misunderstand?’
’And why does my normally composed, handsomely paid British Butler look like he’s in heaven?’
’What on earth did you two animals from the task force do to him?’
"Mr. Liu, it’s a misunderstanding. They were just under an Illusion Technique." Even He Xiaotian couldn’t bear to watch this any longer. ’Here I am, busting my ass fighting evil spirits, and you guys are over there slacking off and enjoying yourselves? Who’s the main muscle here, anyway!’
It was painfully obvious that the funding Liu Rui was giving the Shanghai police department would be far greater than his own pay.
"?!!"
All eyes were drawn to him, and every single person was stunned.
Make no mistake, they weren’t shocked by the cyan flames wreathing He Xiaotian’s body.
These were worldly people; they knew that extraordinary individuals possessed all kinds of bizarre abilities.
The ability to control fire wasn’t all that remarkable.
What shocked them was the pair of pale arms reaching out from inside the mirror, index and middle fingers extended and hooked.
The arms wrapped around from behind He Xiaotian’s head, aiming to gouge out his eyes.
WHAP!!
To be honest, the Mirror Spirit’s appearance was truly unexpected.
For it to dare attack right after the Dream Eye had been crushed was, to put it mildly, a complete surprise.
Especially since it had emerged from the mirror without the slightest ripple or disturbance.
However, ever since He Xiaotian had successfully cultivated the *Secret Dream Observation Achievement Method - Dharma Eye Chapter* and raised it to the level of initial mastery,
his five points in Spirit and five points in perception had allowed him to keenly sense the abnormality in the mirror behind him.
He threw up his arms, instantly blocking the Mirror Spirit’s limbs.
He then spun around, his right hand coming down in a vertical chop like a great saber.
SCHLICK!
All anyone could see was a blur of motion.
"AHHH—"
The Mirror Spirit’s bloodcurdling shriek echoed throughout the entire villa complex.
The cyan flames latched onto the wardrobe mirror, burning fiercely.
Until finally, it was reduced to a pile of ash.
The wardrobe, of course, was destroyed along with the mirror.
[Ding! You have slain the Mirror Spirit and obtained 8,000 Experience Points.]
’Perfect!’
’Even if I don’t get paid today, this trip was more than worth it.’
’Eighteen thousand Experience Points in the bag. What’s not to be happy about?’
"Fuck!"
Captain Zheng blurted out.
’All told, how long were the Dream Eye and Mirror Spirit even on stage?’
’And in that short amount of time, He Xiaotian took care of them both, bare-handed, just like that.’
’Looking at it this way, his special task force really was useless. Aside from mastering the art of slacking off, it seemed they couldn’t do a single thing.’
’No, wait. Maybe we could also just stand on the sidelines and be his hype men?’
