Chapter 168: The Speed Force Phantom

I know of no better life purpose than to perish attempting the great and impossible.

"Come on, Barry! Let’s settle this with our speed!"

"As long as the two of us run fast enough, this cannon can be fully charged and completely tear apart the multidimensional space!"

"It’s time to capture the entire world in our hands!"

Barry took a deep breath, without any hesitation, and instantly stood on the same starting line as Zoom.

"As you wish, Zoom!"

Boom!!!

In an instant, two streaks of lightning on the Ferris wheel began to race wildly.

Barry and Zoom pushed their speed to the limit, and the sonic booms generated by their high-speed movement were like dense thunder, shaking the surrounding abandoned buildings until they collapsed.

Cisco tapped on his portable computer, his face turning pale. "Damn it! Damn it! Their speed is too fast! Once they complete five hundred laps, the multiversal cannon’s charge will reach one hundred percent, and by then the residual shockwave will blow every parallel Earth except ours into pieces in an instant!"

"Oh! GG! Just think of how many hot girls are going to perish!"

Hillel felt a bit regretful.

Earth-2 still had Jesse Quick, after all, who was not only a speedster, but also very pretty.

Caitlin frowned slightly. "What time is it, and your focus is still so weird!"

Hillel shrugged.

Rumble!!!

Just while they were talking, the charging indicator light had soared to the absolute top, and the five hundred laps were completed in no time!

"Haha! Success! Flash, you lost!" Zoom burst out in a maniacal roar.

The muzzle of the multiversal cannon was already glowing with a strong light strong enough to destroy the universe.

Right at this critical moment, Barry, during his high-speed run, suddenly split off a time remnant.

That was an identical Barry.

He dashed straight to the bottom of the multiversal cannon, which was the core pulse source area, and began running crazily in reverse.

Meanwhile, Barry’s real body was fighting his final battle with Zoom.

Hillel stared at the clone Barry. This guy forcefully created a huge magnetic field by surpassing his speed limits, neutralizing the destructive energy of the multiversal cannon, but to completely neutralize it, Barry’s physical body simply couldn’t withstand it.

Ultimately, under everyone’s gaze, Barry’s time remnant began to collapse, his skin and flesh decomposing and dissolving bit by bit until they completely vanished.

"No! Barry!"

In the end, the pulse generated by the time remnant canceled out the multiversal cannon’s energy.

That time remnant willingly sacrificed himself.

"Damn it! You lunatic! You’d rather kill yourself just to stop me?!" Zoom struggled to his feet, his face beneath the mask somewhat distorted.

Barry was even angrier than him, beating Zoom punch after punch. At this moment, Barry’s mind was filled with the deaths of Ronnie and his father, and even the time remnant from just now.

If not for Zoom, his family members would still be alive.

Barry raised his palm, starting a high-frequency vibration, ready to deliver a fatal blow to Zoom.

Looking at that vibrating iron fist, Zoom was not only unafraid, but instead laughed smugly. "Come on! Barry! Kill me! The moment you throw this punch, you will completely break your own principles!"

"Admit it! Our origin stories are the same, we are kindred spirits by nature, and you are the odd one out!"

"Embrace your true life!"

Barry abruptly stopped.

The murderous intent in his eyes slowly faded, replaced by an extreme calmness.

"No, Zoom!"

Barry withdrew his hand blade and said in a deep voice, "I have already heard the Guardian tell what true hell is like. Compared to scum like you, the place he went to is the true abyss."

"So... you are not worthy of being my hell at all, and I will never give up the principles of justice I have always upheld because of trash like you."

Speaking of this, Barry sneered and took a few steps back.

In the sky, a wormhole had cracked open at some unknown point.

All speedsters could see that the wormhole was the Speed Force.

"Instead of pinning your hopes on me, you’d better worry about yourself first. The Speed Force will not forgive anyone who disrupts it. The more you time travel, the easier it is to be dealt with!"

Rip!!!

As his voice fell, a piercing screech came from the wormhole.

Time Wraiths lunged out from the Speed Force. They were considered the enforcers of the Speed Force, specializing in clearing out speedsters who attempted to disrupt the timeline. Even Barry, who generated the Speed Force with every step he ran, could not violate the rules.

"No! Go away! Stay away from me!"

Amidst Zoom’s desperate screams, two Time Wraiths instantly pounced on him, frantically tearing at and devouring the Speed Force origin within his body.

In less than half a minute, Zoom’s dark suit turned black inch by inch under the corrosion of time power, his facial flesh rapidly shriveled and decayed, and finally, he was forcibly transformed into Black Flash.

Black Flash was a slave to the Speed Force, possessing no independent consciousness, knowing only how to blindly execute the mandate of obliteration.

Disrupting the timeline, besides Time Wraiths, Black Flash would also target you.

Black Flash was eventually dragged into the Speed Force by the Time Wraiths.

Hillel watched the whole process from the sidelines, clicking his tongue in wonder.

This thing was even more shocking when viewed up close, more realistic than a 4D movie.

However.

Hillel suddenly noticed that at the final moment when the Speed Force wormhole closed, in his super-lightspeed dimensional vision, he saw a chaotic phantom with an indistinct face deep within the esoteric wormhole.

It raised its head, and across countless spacetime dimensions, it weirdly waved at him.

"Come here!"

This was what the chaotic phantom meant to express.

Hillel shivered on the spot.

What the heck... Is that the self-awareness of the Speed Force? Why does it look like a ghost, terrifyingly creepy in the middle of the night!

Hillel swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Of course he wouldn’t enter the Speed Force.

Although he felt that the other party might not have any malicious intent, the Speed Force was one of the fundamental forces of the universe, and if it just scraped him lightly, even if he could live until the heat death of the universe, he would instantly turn into a white-bearded old man.

I originally thought there weren’t any powerful deities in the early stages of the CW Universe, but I almost forgot that the Speed Force permeates every spacetime and possesses an omnipresent nature.

From the end of time to the end of the universe, the Speed Force exists in every single minute and second.

Tsk! I wonder if my Omega Effect can arm-wrestle with the Speed Force’s temporal effects!

Hillel knew it would be difficult to achieve.

After all, this was someone else’s home turf. A mighty dragon cannot crush a snake in its local domain.

Anyway, it was best to keep a low profile and just avoid interfering with the main worldline. Being targeted by Time Wraiths was a small matter. If the Speed Force was really pissed off, that would be a big deal.

The Speed Force’s will felt a bit regretful. It seemed to notice Hillel’s resistance and did not force the issue.

The wormhole trembled slightly in the void and completely disappeared.

"Barry, did you see that just now? Deep inside the wormhole... it seemed like there was a rather abstract figure waving at me, like calling for a soul!"

Barry was somewhat exhausted at the moment. Hearing Hillel’s words, he wore a baffled expression. "A figure? What figure? There is nothing in the Speed Force except Time Wraiths, right?"

"Even if you can see it, it’s just the incarnation of spirit and energy you imagined, not a truly existing person."

"Fine, let’s pretend I didn’t say anything!" Hillel shook his head.
