Chapter 83. Chess
Aiden was quiet as discussions brewed among the group. His eyes narrowed further.
He scanned the horizon. After he absorbed the blood essence of legendary rank 2 sandworm Cosmo killed, his scan range increased.
He was able to see farther than he could previously.
He did not discover any chaotic beasts ahead of him.
This was strange.
" Something definitely scared the creatures which were previously ahead of us in the desert away from here" Aiden thought.
His gaze crossed the desert.
He saw mountains ahead of the desert. The clouds above the mountain were more thick and crimson.
Also, smoke spewed out of the mountains towards the skies.
Magma spilled from mountain tops, streaming along the mountains. The magma eventually flowed down into several valleys full of magma lakes and rivers.
The sight was very terrifying.
He also saw several legendary rank 2 chaotic beasts flying across the mountainous region.
They were all wyverns.
The creatures would screech. Black whirlwinds would shoot out of their mouths towards weaker creatures in the mountains. The weak creatures would either be reduced into piles of liquid goo, or they would be carried in the black whirlwind at swift speed towards the wyverns. The wyverns would open their mouths and swallow the weak creatures when the weak creatures neared their mouths. After that they would start repeating the same actions.
Aiden now understood everything clearly.
"We were wrong," Aiden said.
The discussions ceased.
"We do not need to get rid of a single legendary rank 2 chaotic beast. We need to get rid of four hundred of them," Aiden said.
He explained everything he had discovered to the group.
"So those wyverns were using this place as a hunting ground. This was why the whirlwinds were here huh," Cosmo said.
"We can conclude that their range of vision didn’t allow them to perceive us. Either that or they were drawn to other prey before they could discover us, else, we would have been the first targets on their radar. This was why the whirlwinds have disappeared and haven’t appeared again. After all, chaotic beasts prefer human meat more than anything. There’s no other logical explanation," the pocket world specialist said.
Everyone nodded.
They all agreed with this reasoning.
"Does anyone have a legendary rank 2 bracelet?" Aiden said.
Everyone looked at him suspiciously. What other crazy plan did he have? But they trusted his capabilities too much at this point to question him about what he wanted to do.
They had just seen him effortlessly lead a horde of rank 2 creatures including a large number of legendary rank 2 creatures to their own deaths after all.
"I got one here." An instructor from Harland Metropolitan University took one out of their storage ring.
"Alright. Anyone else with one?" Aiden asked.
"I got one."
"Same."
"These things are too expensive. I only have one."
The instructors took out their legendary rank 2 invisibility bracelets.
"It’s alright," Aiden replied.
"I can’t miss out on the chance to absorb the blood essence of legendary rank 2 chaotic beasts," Aiden thought.
"Alright. I’m sure by now everyone knows we have to head to the mountains ahead if we want to close this gate and leave here?" Aiden said.
Everyone nodded. As crazy as it was, that was their only option.
"The energy undulations of those Wyverns are behind the gate formation. Wyverns usually do one thing when they want to evolve into dragons," Aiden said.
"They feed voraciously, compared to other chaotic beasts," Desmonda said.
"Are you saying..." Several in the group widened their eyes.
"Yes," Aiden replied. "I believe they are trying to evolve into dragons. That explains their voracious feeding. Their evolution process has begun. Because of that, the energy undulations they are emitting is very high."
"This is what caused the spatial boundary or spatial barrier of the pocket world to destabilize and cause the gate to form. Classic pocket world- gate formation knowledge." The pocket world specialist scratched his chin. He seemed fascinated. However no one cared about his antics.
"If they manage to evolve into dragons, we will be screwed. Dragons are unique chaotic beasts. Unique chaotic beasts are stronger than the usual creatures at the pinnacle of the same rank. So we don’t have much time," a student from Derulo City University added. Everyone nodded.
"So what’s the plan?" Pamela said.
"For now let’s focus on getting near to the mountain range. I’ll explain as we move. We don’t have time on our side," Aiden said.
The crimson carpet moved faster than it did previously.
"Do the rings last for at least an hour before their effects wear off when you put them on?" Aiden asked the instructors.
"Yeah."
"I’m sure."
"Pretty much."
They replied.
"That should be enough time. Now this is the plan. The wyverns are currently desperate to evolve. They are having a battle over prey in their territory. The best way to incite conflict among them is to ensure that they have less prey to feed on to evolve," Aiden said. "If they can’t have much prey to feed on... they turn on each other."
Glints of realisation flashed through all eyes. They were all shocked. Even his friends were shocked.
How did this guy really think? How was he able to come up with such a solution? Did he look at everything like a chess piece?
Yes it was common knowledge that wyverns sometimes fed on each other when they wanted to evolve into dragons and they didn’t have any prey to feed on in their vicinity.
But if coming up with solutions just because one had theoretical knowledge about some things was easy, then they would not be shocked at Aiden’s tactical abilities. Just when they thought they had seen what he was capable off, this guy just..
Aiden was oblivious to their thoughts. He simply wanted to absorb the blood essence of those legendary rank 2 wyverns, close this gate and leave this pocket world.
"We can only do that by thinning down the numbers of prey in their vicinity."
He continued as he looked at the instructors.
"This is where you come in, instructors. You are the strongest among us, and have the least chance of dying. Apart from the wyverns, the creatures in the mountains are within expert rank 2 and advanced rank 2. Your role is to put on the invisibility bracelets when we are near the vicinity. Then, use your invisibility to your advantage and slip into the mountain range and assassinate the expert and advanced rank 2 creatures in the mountain range. After that, leave the place. We will wait for the wyverns to turn on each other and kill each other in an attempt to eat each other to evolve, then we will move to the vicinity of their corpses, wait for the gate to shrink into that area, enter it and leave the pocket world."
"Alright." The instructors nodded.
The group eventually arrived at the edge of the volcanic mountain range.
The temperature was several degrees hotter than any other place they had been in the pocket world.
Aiden’s crimson carpet/ mat turned into blobs of blood and disappeared into him.
"Wish us luck," Pamela said.
The instructors put on their legendary rank 2 invisibility bracelets and slipped into the mountain range while Aiden and company hid behind a large rock at the edge of the mountain range.
