Chapter 105: Excision Zero!!
The seam opened without becoming a door.
CLINK!
Its edges struck together above Kael, and three figures stepped from the black glass.
HISS!
Cold vapor rolled around their legs. Each figure stood taller than an ordinary worker, with a narrow body built from polished ribs and pale threads that pulsed beneath the surface. Smooth masks covered their faces. Dark crowns floated behind their heads, held apart from the body by rings of reflection.
The figures carried no weapons. Their long fingers changed as the surrounding panels changed, sharpening whenever the glass brightened near a joint or an injury.
Jaro backed into Orrek. "Black Glass Excisors. They remove whatever the white rooms reject, and the passage closes behind them as though nobody was there."
Orrek shifted his chain into his sound hand. "Can they bleed?"
"I never stayed close enough to learn."
"You can watch from behind me."
Vaela moved the children and injured survivors toward the center. "Nobody runs into a private lane. Their fingers depend on the glass, so keep away from the walls and watch the crowns."
The first Excisor raised one hand.
Sound vanished.
Renn’s mouth moved around the count, but no voice reached Kael. A child cried without noise. Orrek struck his fist against the floor, and even the impact disappeared before it reached the air.
The silence pressed against Kael’s ears and tongue. It did not feel empty. It felt occupied, as if the passage had filled every space where a warning might travel.
Kael stepped forward.
The pressure curved around his body and tested how far it could separate him from the fourteen without touching them.
He held no unallocated shards. Every point he had earned already lived inside his bones, movement, resistance, and healing. Whatever came next would meet the body he had built, not an emergency reserve.
The first Excisor pointed at Renn.
CLACK!
A black ring closed around the boy’s wrist. His knees buckled. Lysa and the burned man caught his coat before he struck the floor.
Sound returned with the click.
"Count keeper designated witness anchor," the Excisor said. Its voice carried no anger and no uncertainty. "Sever witness function. Preserve body if useful."
Orrek lunged.
Kael caught the loose end of his chain and stopped him before his ruined shoulder took the full turn.
"The ring is using Renn to pull you close," Kael said. "Give me one breath to find where the pressure enters."
Orrek’s whole body shook against the chain. "His wrist will not survive many breaths."
"I know. Stay ready when I move."
Orrek planted his boots, although every part of him wanted to strike.
The ring tightened.
CRACK!
Renn screamed as the old damage in his wrist shifted. He kept his other hand closed around the count cloth.
The Sovereign Root answered because the pressure was no longer a threat or a display. The black ring was trying to remove the function Renn had fought to keep.

Three shards burned awake inside Kael.
One point could change whether his body survived a blade. Three carried enough force to reshape the fight, but only if he spent them against the real danger.
The Excisor turned its mask toward him. "Growth event observed. Mapping."
Orrek bared his teeth. "It speaks as if you are a stain on its table."
"Keep its attention on me," Kael said. "Renn needs you ready for the ring."
The second Excisor moved before Orrek could answer. It appeared first as a reflection farther down the wall. Its body followed the image and arrived beside Kael with one hand open.
SCRAPE!
Five cuts crossed his ribs.
Blood struck the floor.
DRIP!
Kael had twisted soon enough to keep the fingers shallow, but the pressure inside them spread beyond the wounds. Flesh around each cut went numb. The attack was trying to stop his body from recognizing the damage as something it should close.
He saw the pattern now: one Excisor held the witness, another mapped his body, and the third waited to divide the survivors when he committed.
Kael gave the command.
ALLOCATE!

His ribs hardened beneath the returning fingers. The wounds remained open, but Regenerative Dominion pulled warmth back into the numb flesh and kept the cuts connected to his body. Threat Perception Instinct caught the next reflection before the Excisor arrived.
Kael stepped into its path.
THUD!
His shoulder struck the Excisor while half its body was still an image in the wall. The floor sank beneath Kael’s new density, and the polished mask cracked from jaw to temple.
A startled sound escaped the thing.
GASP!
The survivors heard something almost human inside the clean body. Several recoiled, but Kael watched its left arm rise more slowly than its right.
"It has joints beneath the glass," Vaela called. "The crown is pulling the damaged side toward the wall."
Renn remained pale and furious. Lysa braced his elbow while the burned man tied cloth above the ring to slow the blood.
Kael drove his elbow into the fracture.
CRACK!
The Excisor folded against the wall. Its crown brightened, and black reflections climbed over the damaged mask, trying to pull the pieces back into place.
Vaela saw the repair begin. "The crown is holding its position. Break the ring behind the head before the wall restores the body."
Jaro pointed with a shaking hand. "Lower left. Every seal begins there, but do not strike while Renn is still connected."
Orrek looked from the crown to the ring cutting Renn’s wrist. "Tell me which one frees him."
"The first crown. Wait for the light to pulse, or the ring may close through the bone."
The third Excisor lifted both hands.
CLACK! CLACK! CLACK!
Black ribs rose around the survivors. Each body received a space barely wide enough to stand. Dorran lost his footing when a rib struck his injured ankle, but Tavin caught him. Sella passed her child to Lysa and used both hands to hold their gap open.
Renn raised his trapped wrist. His voice shook with pain.
"Fourteen. Keep touching someone. The walls cannot finish the lanes if we stay together."
Hands reached through the narrowing spaces. The count moved from person to person without becoming a neat line the Excisors could close.
Kael seized the nearest rib.
SPLIT!
Its edge opened both palms. Regenerative Dominion kept his fingers working while Core Mass Density turned his grip into a clamp. He pulled until the old stone beneath the black surface groaned.
Renn pressed his bleeding wrist against Lysa’s hand. Vaela held the white edge toward the first crown. Orrek waited beside her with the broken chain wrapped around his fist.
"The pulse is coming," Jaro said. "Lower left, after the second light."
HUM!
The crowns brightened once.
The ribs slid farther apart, stretching every joined hand.
HUM!
"Now!" Jaro shouted.
Orrek swung. Vaela struck the white edge against his chain at the same moment, turning the blow toward the lower part of the crown.
Kael tore the rib sideways.
CRACK!
The floor broke under his feet. The first crown flickered, and the ring around Renn’s wrist loosened enough for blood to run beneath it.
Vaela crossed the broken floor and slid her hook needle beneath the ring. "Do not pull. A black point has entered the old fracture near your thumb."
Renn held his hand open while Lysa supported the forearm. "I was hoping you would say the loosening helped."
"It gave me room to see why pulling would break you. We still need the crown."
The damaged Excisor peeled itself away from the wall. Its mask was still split, but pale threads had stretched across the opening. The second Excisor shifted into a reflection behind Vaela.
Kael saw the arrival before its body formed.
He drove one bleeding hand against the floor and changed direction. Stone compressed beneath his palm. His other arm caught the Excisor across the waist and carried it past Vaela.
BANG!
The black body struck a partition hard enough to bow the panel. Cracks spread through its ribs, while the crown behind it remained untouched and dragged the body upright again.
Orrek stared at the recovering figure. "Breaking the body only buys a breath."
Jaro watched the light travel between the three crowns. "They are sharing the room. Hurt one, and the others hold its place until the glass repairs it."
"Can they all repair at once?" Tavin asked.
Jaro’s eyes moved between the pulsing rings. "We are about to learn."
The Excisors turned together.
Their smooth masks no longer looked calm. Reflections raced across them while the crowns descended closer to their shoulders. The room had expected frightened workers and one marked body. It had found fourteen people holding one another, a wounded giant willing to wait for the right strike, a healer carrying a stolen blade, and Kael growing heavier inside its trap.
The next pulse gathered behind all three crowns.
Kael released the broken rib and stepped toward them before the room could divide the group again.
Behind him, fourteen people held their strained line while Vaela kept Renn’s injured wrist from becoming the price of the next attack.
Renn drew one painful breath and began the count again. Every survivor answered by tightening a hand around another living wrist, and the Excisors heard them.
