Chapter 378: One Leg
Manager Liang was still pleading relentlessly, but Chen Man Ni had made her decision and would not be swayed.
She waved a dismissive hand and said coldly,
"Get out. And don't ever let me see you again!"
Manager Liang didn't dare cause any more trouble. He scrambled to his feet, shot Chen Man Ni one last pained look, and had no choice but to retreat from Private Room 1.
Manager Liang knew he was utterly finished. All his past transgressions would likely be brought to light now, and he might even face prison time.
Now, Chen Biao was the only one left in Private Room 1.
He stared blankly at Chen Man Ni, speechless for a long moment.
Standing to the side, Qin Tuo sneered and said,
"Chen Biao, weren't you so arrogant just now? Why don't you keep it up?"
Chen Biao swallowed hard, a bitter smile on his face. "My apologies, Qin Tuo. I had no idea your girlfriend came from such a powerful background. I apologize for my earlier behavior!"
Chen Biao understood all too well that he had run headfirst into a brick wall.
'Chen Man Ni fired Manager Liang with just a few words. How could I ever afford to offend someone like that?'
But clearly, an apology was not all Qin Tuo wanted from him.
Without another word, he turned and left Private Room 1, with Chen Man Ni following right behind him.
Seeing them leave, Chen Biao naturally understood what they wanted.
Chen Biao squeezed his eyes shut, gritted his teeth, and immediately followed.
A moment later, they all returned to Private Room 2.
Seeing Qin Tuo and the others return, Luo Xianggui and her companions immediately stood up.
"Qin Tuo, how did it go?"
Luo Xianglan asked with concern. Her daughter Jiang Wanyu's future happiness was at stake.
But the words had barely left her mouth when she saw Chen Biao follow them in.
Instantly, Luo Xianggui's heart sank.
The moment Jiang Wanyu saw Chen Biao, she flinched and quickly averted her gaze, not daring to meet his eyes.
But then everyone noticed that Chen Biao looked like a child who'd been caught misbehaving, an expression of resentful embarrassment on his face.
After Qin Tuo and Chen Man Ni took their seats, Chen Biao just stood to the side, not daring to sit down.
Seeing him act this way, Luo Xianggui grew even more bewildered.
Qin Tuo said,
"Chen Biao, weren't you just saying you wanted to apologize? Now's your chance."
Chen Biao was keenly aware that Qin Tuo was forcing him to make his position clear in front of everyone.
But he had no choice. Chen Biao knew he had to humble himself, or his future would be bleak.
So, he bowed deeply and said earnestly,
"I'm sorry. I had no idea you were the young lady of the Chen Group. Everything before was my fault. Please, don't hold it against me!"
As the apology left his lips, Chen Biao felt as if his heart was bleeding.
He knew that with this, he had been utterly humiliated in front of his future wife and mother-in-law.
Seeing Chen Biao actually apologize, both mother and daughter were utterly shocked, unable to comprehend what was happening.
Stunned, neither of them could manage a response.
But an apology wasn't enough for Qin Tuo. He said coldly,
"Chen Biao, an apology isn't all. There's one more thing you need to do."
Chen Biao was grinding his teeth with hatred for Qin Tuo, but with Chen Man Ni right there, he had no choice but to comply.
"Whatever it is, Qin Tuo, just say it! I'll agree!"
Chen Biao said slowly, his expression grim.
Qin Tuo snorted. "I want you to break off the engagement with my cousin, Jiang Wanyu. An outstanding girl like her can never be allowed to marry a piece of scum like you!"
At Qin Tuo's words, both Luo Xianglan and Jiang Wanyu's faces lit up with joy.
They both saw how afraid Chen Biao seemed of Qin Tuo and Chen Man Ni and realized there was hope.
Chen Biao's face was a mask of reluctance. He shot a resentful glance at Jiang Wanyu.
He had put a great deal of effort into pursuing Jiang Wanyu, and now, the prize he was about to claim had been snatched away. Of course he felt indignant.
'Still,' Chen Biao thought, 'it's not worth offending Chen Man Ni over a woman.'
So he could only grit his teeth and say,
"Fine, Qin Tuo. I agree to break off the engagement with Jiang Wanyu!"
As he spoke, his whole body trembled faintly with rage, but he forced himself to hold it in.
"Heh. Now that's the right choice. Cousin, from now on, you're free!"
Qin Tuo said with a smile and a wave of his hand.
Hearing this, Jiang Wanyu was so moved that tears streamed down her face. She nodded again and again, unable to speak.
Luo Xianglan and Luo Xianggui, who was beside her, were also immensely relieved. Now that Jiang Wanyu had been freed from her ordeal, the elders in the family were overjoyed.
Seeing the smiling faces of Jiang Wanyu's family left a sour taste in Chen Biao's mouth.
He asked resentfully,
"Since that's settled, Qin Tuo, can I go now?"
But to his surprise, Qin Tuo's expression darkened. "Chen Biao, the engagement might be settled, but we're not done here."
Chen Biao was about to explode. He shot a glance at Chen Man Ni, then forced himself to ask through gritted teeth,
"What else is there, Qin Tuo? Just spit it out!"
Qin Tuo's eyes narrowed. He said slowly,
"You forced my cousin to drop out of school, making her miss the most important exam of her life. We haven't settled the score for that yet."
Instantly, Chen Biao's fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned white. He desperately wanted to rush over and beat Qin Tuo to a pulp.
Luo Xianglan glared fiercely at Chen Biao, her heart aching for her daughter.
The memory brought fresh tears to Jiang Wanyu's eyes. She buried her face in her hands, unable to speak.
She had loved her studies, but he had forced her to drop out. It was a wound that had never healed.
Chen Biao knew Qin Tuo wouldn't let this go. He asked coldly,
"So, Qin Tuo, what do you want?"
Qin Tuo sneered and retorted,
"I'm the one telling you to solve this problem, Chen Biao. And you're asking me what to do?"
Chen Biao thought for a moment, then said,
"How about this: I'll give you money. Name your price to make all of this go away."
In Chen Biao's world, there was no problem that money couldn't solve.
And as it happened, he had plenty of money. He was confident he could make this problem disappear.
However, Qin Tuo just shook his head slowly, his voice chillingly calm.
"I don't want your money. I want one of your legs."
The moment he said it, everyone in the room jumped in shock.
No one had imagined Qin Tuo would be so ruthless, demanding one of Chen Biao's legs right off the bat.
As for Chen Biao, he finally snapped. He felt that Qin Tuo was treating him like a total pushover.
