Chapter 104 - 2 - Giving Some Clue
I shook my head. Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s request was too much. My handwritten magic book essentially used ancient magic techniques already known in this novel’s world. I just simplified their complex language into everyday terms.
I transformed their complex vocabulary into words commoners could understand. That’s what makes my handwritten magic books easy to understand to those without formal education.
"I think... that’s too much for me, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg."
"I’m just an amateur mage who happened to knowing... how to cast magic. Something like that."
"The direction from someone who understands magic is much needed to guide Master Amagi. It would also be a great way to get to know Master Amagi more closely. Studying magic with hr mother... that would be Master Amagi’s sweet dreams for night sleep."
I declined Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s request to teach Master Amagi the magic techniques I had accidentally discovered. Delayed incantations, inverse magic, and forgotten rune magic. All of these originated from magic techniques from the past that I had discover from living magic book, but change the base concept to keep sticking the rule of magic world.
"You’re right, I’m sorry for making you take on the responsibility that should have been mine. I shouldn’t have abandoned Amagi to learn from another novice mage, even if that novice mage was talented. But you wouldn’t mind teaching Amagi about your magic, would you?" Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg was still trying to persuade me to share my magic knowledge with Master Amagi.
I didn’t reject the proposal, just a little bit overwhelmed by the responsibility I had to bear. Just teaching inverse magic techniques made Master Amagi want to tease Master Reina, let alone teaching her delayed magic and rune magic.
"I don’t mind that one. As long as it makes Master Amagi happy," I replied with the most standard response in the maid’s handbook for hospitality.
"I’m glad to hear that. That means you agree to share the magic knowledge you discovered with Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s family, right? Unlike your esteemed Duchess, I hold the position of head of the family. In other words, my position is higher than my husband’s. Unlike the Duchess, who has to share authority with her husband as a Duke."
"Uhm, yeah... yeah??" I don’t understand that statement at all.
The head of a family in the nobility was often chosen through a selection process. The male head of the family was called the Patriarch, while the female head was called the Matriarch. This involved a lengthy internal selection process, often setting the stage for bloody stories. Power struggles rarely ended well, which is why I’m reluctant to write such tragedies storyline.
"I’m glad to hear that. It will make Amagi even stronger and become my successor. It’s a bit of a shame; my son is unreliable and too soft in making decisions. He even supports Amagi as the main heir in our family."
I accidentally overheard sensitive information about the Marchioness’s family structure. It’s not surprising, since she’s the most powerful witch in the Kingdom of Belfast. If the Marchioness weren’t the head of the family, I would have questioned her family’s internal decisions.
"For now, my husband is acting as the head of the family while I’m on vacation with Amagi. There’s something I’m looking for, and I need an answer as soon as possible."
"It’s strange for a Matriarch to be seen so relaxed and having so much free time, isn’t it?"
I fell silent, my mind reeling back to the day Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg received a tea party invitation from the youngest princess in the Kingdom of Belfast. Her small talk with Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld echoed in my ears about the youngest princess’s unique illness that had become her responsibility to find out the cause and seek the cure.
Deep in my heart, I wanted to help the youngest princess avoid being called the "Demon Princess." Her future as a princess was too bright for her mana leakage disease. It’s a shame if some tragedy make her Villainess.
It’s okay for me to give Marchioness some "spicy classified information" for finding her answers, right?
Yeah, let’s try to change the current storyline for better cause.
"Is it related to the tea party invitation from the youngest princess... which Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld said she was suffering from illness?" I asked innocently, wearing Liliana’s mask of innocence that had already blended into my natural facial expression.
"You know it, Liliana?"
"I happened to overhear it, and the Head Maid shared the information she knew with me."
"That’s not information that anyone else should know; it’s best to keep it to yourself," she said while stroking my cheek, occasionally pulling it until it hurt and throbbed.
Squeeesshhh...
Squeeesshhh...
"I-I... Hnngg!! D-Definitely keeping it a secret," I answered calmly while feeling her hand pull harder on my cheek.
"S-Speaking of the illness that the youngest princess is suffering from. Wouldn’t it be better to build a place where she can vent her excess overload mana?"
"Or... Nguuhh!! O-Or increase her mana capacity so she can control her excess mana regeneration?"
I tried to provide a clue, to find the solution to the youngest princess’s illness by giving some hints to Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg, which should be enough to be considered an alternative answer that solves her current problem.
However, I don’t think that’s enough with my limited knowledge of magic and being filled with doubts.
"That’s an interesting suggestion, Liliana. But the problem isn’t that simple. I need to find the cause of why the youngest princess always experiences the same problem every day. Several professional witch on my level have tried hard to find a solution. Starting with creating a magic-resistant dress that is equivalent to military magic armor, it turned into a big disaster because the dress exploded after it couldn’t withstand the excess mana of the youngest princess that leaked out from within her body.
My mind was filled with the thought of my smartphone exploding after its battery overheated. Suppressing her excess mana in a tight dress, I felt like I was witnessing the stupidity of the people in this novel’s world.
Either they don’t understand the problem or are too lazy to think of another way.
"No wonder it exploded. Even beer barrels that are constantly filled will explode after they reach full capacity. Isn’t that similar to what happened to the youngest princess?" I replied, eyeing the smoked meat snacks the Head Maid was handing out.
"You think it’s the same thing?" The Marchioness looked surprised by my bold thought.
Thinking about the mana capacity of the youngest Princess, with the beer barrel that exploded after being full, it could be considered a mockery to the members of the royal family.
"Everything that is full... it will definitely look for a way out so as not to be crowded, right?"
"Even a volcano will erupt once its contents are full or blocked. The same applies to the youngest princess’s mana capacity."
"Small mana capacity with the amount of mana constantly flowing out of her body. It’s obvious... it will build up and explode from inside."
Without any regard for manners or etiquette as a maid, I took a piece of smoky meat and put it in my mouth.
Nyyoomm...
Nyyooomm...
"Hmm~ So delicious! A little too salty and too dry, but still delicious!"
Ignoring the Head Maid’s reprimanding glare, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg waved her hand to hold her anger. This was supposed to be Marchioness dish, but I snatched it with the casual, impolite attitude of a child.
"You like it, Liliana?"
"Y-Yes, it’s very delicious! Uuhh... although it’s a bit too salty for my taste."
"What about the level of doneness when smoked until dry?"
"Not too bad. Although the juicy texture of the meat is lost, it still tastes good as a smoked meat snack."
Caress...
Caress...
The gentle pinch on my cheek turned into a gentle caress on my head.
"I’m glad you’re like it. I’ll give you all my smoked meat as a token of my gratitude. As my thanks for finding an answer, Liliana."
"All this time, some mages have been trying to reduce the impact of the youngest princess’ mana leak without realizing the main problem. Blocking the mana outlet will cause a denser mana buildup and be dangerous to the youngest princess health."
"A lack of mana is dangerous; an excess of mana is also dangerous. I was too ignorant to realize that simple answer."
Caress...
Caress...
While stroking my head, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg rested her forehead against mine. She seemed pleased with the answer she’d been seeking.
"At least, I have a reason to go crazy hunting dragon for ingredients..."
"After all, the mana-boosting potions not cheap. Kukuku!!" the Marchioness said with a creepy chuckle.
That made the Head Maid and Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld look at each other. They didn’t say anything while I spoke with the Marchioness.
"That scary smile again. I hope you will refrain from doing something that makes the Kingdom of Belfast fall into crisis," said the Duchess, understanding the other meaning of the Marchioness’ laughter.
The sound of Marchioness laughter sounded creepy; it even made the fine hairs on the nape of my neck stand up when I heard it.
"Don’t worry, I wouldn’t go that far. It’s been a long time since I’ve had the pleasure of freely casting my magic in wild area. Searching for a herd of dragons to harvest their hearts, I won’t hold back to enjoying that fun."
"S-Shinano, you’re not planning to wipe out a whole herd of dragons, are you?" the Duchess asked with her eyebrows raised and heavy breath.
"Of course not, what kind of weirdo Am I if doing that, I’m just looking for the best dragon heart to make a high-level mana capacity-boosting potion," replied the Marchioness, sounding pleased about this.
"I don’t know what’s wrong with your statement. But I can sense bad news coming after you go hunting dragons herd. As much as possible, don’t wipe out the dragon race that is breeding on the borders of the Kingdom of Belfast. We still need them to control the monster population on the border."
"Please don’t think of me as a threat who will destroy the ecosystem and the monster habitat. You are far more terrifying than what I will do, Duchess."
"Ah, don’t joke about me, Shinano. I am a gentle and harmless Duchess. Don’t make Liliana misunderstand something that never happened..."
Whether this is a joke or something that has happened before. I could only remain silent and close my eyes to every action they would take. Because I’m just an apprentice maid who knows "nothing" in this novel world.
