Chapter 22 The Complete Destruction of the Good Boy
Chapter 22 The Complete Destruction of the Good Boy
The guy I’d crashed into grinned wildly. “This is him, ha! He’s the same guy from before. Let’s teach him a lesson, Kenta-senpai.”
But the gorilla just casually waved a hand. “Let him go. We got instructions not to bother him yet. Besides…” A wide, cruel grin spread across his face. “This is way more fun, hahaha.”
Everything turned to dark.
What… what’s happening?
Don’t tell me… he was the one?
But how? He never got close to her. Never. I always walked her home from school and back… every single day.
Blood rushed to my head as I tried to make sense of it, tried to find when it all happened. The cold rain poured down, but it did nothing to cool the fire burning inside me.
“WAS IT YOU?!” I screamed, voice raw with fury.
The gorilla slowly turned to face me, a low, creeping laugh rumbling beneath its breath before breaking free. “Hahahahahaha… Oh… you already found out?”
He shook his head. “But even if it was me… what then? What can you do? Are you gonna pull out your stupid phone and record me, or are you gonna threaten me with a weapon again?”
His face turned, eyes looking off into the distance. I followed his line of sight.
There, half a block away, stood a small police box, its lights glowing brightly through the rain.
“So what are you gonna do, runt? Wanna-be punk?” He crossed his arms.
“TELL ME WHO DID IT!” I screamed again, tears mixing with the rain streaming down my face.
He slowly brought his hands together. “Why?” One hand formed a tight circle while the middle finger of the other thrust through it—the vulgar gesture unmistakable even in the dark. His grin stretched wider, mouth hanging open, tongue lolling out like a dog in heat as he stared straight at me. “So… has that little pink cherry already been popped?”
“ARRGHHHHH!” I lunged forward, blood boiling.
The gorilla reacted instantly. His fist shot out. I ducked as low as I could, legs bent, but the side of my face still got grazed. I barely felt it. I was already inside his guard.
I jumped with everything I had.
An ugly crunch rang out.
The top of my skull smashed directly into his face. He stumbled backward and crashed to the ground as blood exploded from his nose and mouth, spraying into the rain. I landed hard, vision tilting, the world spinning, but I kept my eyes locked on him—ready to kill.
Then something slammed into me from the side.
The other guy speared me into the wet pavement. He was on top of me in an instant, raining down punches. One. Two. Wet, heavy impacts slammed into my face. My head snapped to the side and his next punch smashed into the concrete instead.
“Arghhh—!” he hissed in pain.
I summoned every last ounce of strength, taking advantage of the opening. I twisted hard and flipped us over. Now I was on top.
“Die, fucker!” I snarled.
Through my blurred vision, my punches came wild and uncoordinated, but I still managed to land a few solid hits before he brought his arms up to shield his face.
Then I felt it—a shadow looming over me.
Kenta’s glowing eyes stared down through the dark rain. He kicked me hard. I threw up both arms to block, but the force sent me flying backward onto the ground. Heavy footsteps chased after me. A massive stomp came down. I rolled at the last second, the heel of his shoe grazing my ribs.
I gained some distance and looked at the bloody face of the huge brute getting closer. I spat blood, ripped off my jacket, and gripped it tightly in one hand.
I lunged again.
Kenta kicked toward me. I feinted, stopping mid-stride, then suddenly changed direction and threw the jacket straight into his face.
While he was pulling it off, I jumped high into the air, knee raised, both hands grabbing the back of his head and yanking it down viciously.
CRACK.
His head snapped back. He wobbled hard, legs turning to rubber.
But one massive arm still whipped around and smashed into the side of my face like a sledgehammer. White-hot pain exploded behind my eyes. My consciousness blinked out for a split second.
When the world slammed back in, I’d lost him in the pouring rain. Then his dark silhouette swam into view again. I clenched my toes, forcing my legs to obey, and used the momentum to close the distance once more.
This time the target was crystal clear—I fired a savage kick straight for his groin.
I missed.
My shin slammed into his thick, iron-hard thigh instead. The impact jolted all the way up my leg and nearly folded me.
Still, he lost balance and crashed heavily onto the wet ground.
I plunged forward, hammering punches into his chest before climbing on top of him. I lifted my fist high and brought it down.
THUD.
“Tell me who did it!!”
THUD.
“Tell me since when!!”
THUD.
“TELL ME WHY!!”
A hand suddenly clamped onto my arm from behind. “Stop!”
I spun on pure instinct and threw everything I had left into the punch.
There was a wet, heavy sound. The man in the dark blue uniform flew backward and slammed into the wet pavement, his peaked cap spinning off into the rain.
My burning eyes finally focused on what I’d done.
All the pain crashed into me at once—fists swollen and raw, face scratched to hell, vision half-blocked by my own swollen brow from the top of my skull to the bottom of my jaw. Blood streaked down my cheeks, mixing with the rain. My clothes were filthy, soaked through, clinging like a second skin. Passersby stood frozen on the sidewalk, mouths open, gasping at the spectacle.
Down the street, three more men in dark blue uniforms were already charging toward us.
I ran.
I tripped hard at first, breath ragged and burning in my throat, then found my stride and sprinted desperately into the pouring darkness as shouts and pounding boots chased after me.
