Chapter 313: The Multiverse of Bounded Hearts (3)
HUMMMMM!!!!!
The moment Akasha’s last words left his mouth, the cocoons above the racial pond began to shine brightly, but just as they slowly started to open, he raised a hand and halted everything.
"I actually almost forgot," Akasha muttered as the surge of divinity cut off.
In that moment, he took a single blink.
Then the Death Siren, Liliana’s mother, lay in the grass as if she had been placed there in the blink of an eye, still unconscious.
Snap!
HUMMMMMM!!!!!
Without wasting any more time, Akasha snapped his fingers, and a new cocoon closed around her.
This one was deep black instead of the purple-white of the others, musical marks running across the surface in slow notation, and then that shell broke as fast as it had formed.
In that moment, Liliana’s mother appeared, hovering just above the grass.
Her long black hair cascaded past her waist, framing her pale skin.
Even with her eyes still closed, there was already a hint of their pull, and along the sides of her neck lay fine, closed gill-slits.
Faint black scales shimmered at her collarbones, while delicate fin-like membranes edged her ears, and pale webbing stretched between the first joints of her fingers.
In this moment, she appeared more beautiful than the word had room for, the kind of face that made looking feel like a decision you were already late on.
"Bastards!!!" She screamed the moment her eyes opened, "Release me now!"
HUMMMMM!!!!!
Akasha tilted his head slightly, already suspecting this was bound to happen.
’Right... this place still lacks absolute purification,’ he mused inwardly, a faint smile crossing his face.
"Master," Yume said, already waving her hands, "I’ll take care of it..."
HUMMMMM!!!!
In that moment, a sudden surge swept across the entire Land of Elsewhere as a far more potent version of Absolute Purification took hold.
It flowed over Liliana’s mother, instantly clearing away everything that had been locked deep within her mind.
She hadn’t truly endured much physical hardship, if only because the Emperor had been keeping her untouched, saving her for the day Calyx would take possession of her.
Still, she had lived through what felt like countless years in absolute solitude and silence—and that alone was more than enough to bear, especially when each day came without the certainty of what the next might bring.
Her shoulders relaxed, the gill-slits along her neck loosening with a slow, steady rhythm.
The deep, hypnotic black of her eyes softened, losing that sharp, frantic gleam and settling into something calm, almost tranquil.
"Who..." She muttered as she blinked a few times, locking directly onto Akasha.
"Are you...."
She froze as her words dragged, her black eyes taking in the broken infinity, the necklace, the dream-thick presence, the light-brown skin, and everything else, as if only he stood there.
Then she shook her head hard enough that her ears trembled, frowned, and dragged her gaze from his face to the pond, the cocoons, the mountain, the white sun that was not any sun she knew.
"Where is this place?" She questioned. "And... who are you?"
"Well," Luna said with a light laugh, finding the woman’s quick change of expressions a bit cute, "That was quite the show of expressions..."
As Liliana’s Mother looked at her and finally at the others, Luna continued speaking.
"Don’t worry... you are in the place where you will reunite with your family."
Snap!
HUMMMM!!!!!
In that moment, Akasha snapped his fingers, and the other cocoons disintegrated simultaneously.
Melvin, Harlan, Calista, Liliana, Salvator, Jovian, Nara, Amaterasu, Calyx- all of them finding their feet on the grass of the Land of Elsewhere.
Liliana’s mother felt the surge at her back before she understood it, and she turned slowly.
There, she immediately laid eyes on one of the two people she longed for more than anything in existence.
Liliana stood beneath the glaring white sun, looking much the same as she always had.
Her long black hair flowed freely, framing a face with eyes as dark and red as pools of blood, set against her pale skin.
She wore a short black dress, its edges lined with subtle red seams that caught the light in quiet contrast.
"L-Liy?!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with pure disbelief as she watched Liliana’s eyes snap open.
In that instant, Liliana didn’t bother to figure out how her star had reached Divine Rank; her attention was entirely fixed on her mother.
"M...om?" she asked, as though her own eyes were playing tricks on her.
Salvatore’s head snapped toward the sound so fast the red tattoos seemed to move on their own.
His pale eyes, flecked with tiny red dots, landed on his daughter and then the woman next to her, and any thought of checking his status vanished instantly.
"Impossible..."
His words had barely finished before the three of them crossed the grass in a few light running steps, as though they were mere mortals.
With each step, it seemed as though time slowed more and more, leaves swirling lazily around them.
They came together in a lock of arms and trembling breath—Liliana’s mother’s webbed fingers locked tightly around Liliana’s dress, Salvatore’s hands pressed against both their backs, holding them as if the moment might be snatched away if he loosened his grip.
"I missed you," Liliana said into her mother’s shoulder, voice wrecked and laughing at the same time.
"I missed you. I missed you. I missed you," the Siren said, and she kept saying it because the cage years had not given her a better sentence.
Salvatore made a sound that was not quite a word and pulled them in harder.
---
While they were in a world of their own, off to the side, Calyx stared at her hands and the rest of her body in shock.
"H... how?" she asked, realizing that in this moment, she was no longer just an illusion.
She had a real body once more... though it was far from human.
Her skin was pale, adorned with black tattoos curling along her arms and throat.
Her hair cascaded longer than before, and her eyes gleamed sharp and faceted, with black diamonds in them catching the light.
Death sat on her the way beauty sat on her, and the disbelief in her mouth had nowhere polite to go.
"H... how is this possible?"
----
Akasha stood back with his hands clasped behind him, giving them space to have their moment.
Sage had shifted onto his shoulder, still sleeping soundlessly.
Luna, Yume, and Akashi remained quiet at his side, while Melvin’s cold gaze flicked between Calyx’s new hands and the family pile.
Harlan examined his changes, and Calista focused intently on the small family reunion happening off to the side.
He let the scene unfold for a few moments before finally speaking.
"Alright... I’m sure most of your worries have already been addressed," Akasha said, noting that with their evolutions—especially Melvin, Calyx, and Harlan—they would no longer need to question the paths required to bring back their lost ones.
"However, before you all depart... I will fill you in on everything else."
