Chapter 274: When The Night... Falls (3)
"What... the hell?" General Salvatore hovered high above the supercontinent, his face a mix of shock and awe.
His ultimate goal had always been to return to Loreua after the Great Severance War and fight for a chance to reclaim his wife.
He had fully prepared himself for the possibility of dying on this journey, knowing his enemies were none other than the Empire itself.
This was a major reason he had instructed Liliana to bring reinforcements in the first place.
He’d always assumed he’d be ahead of her in both strength and progress toward Loreua.
By the time she crushed her token to join him with backup, he expected to have already completed his mission—or to be dead.
And if he were dead, the summoning would fail, so he thought everything would work out as planned.
But in this moment, he couldn’t begin to describe the feeling of seeing millions upon millions appear behind Liliana—and not just weak experts, but warriors no weaker than God Emperors, led by two Cosmic Union troops and a massive force from the Star Union.
His companions snapped out of their shock just a fraction of a second before he did.
"Is that... actually Liliana?" the woman asked, her voice trembling despite her attempt to keep it steady.
The men let out a single, incredulous chuckle, their eyes still fixed on the host.
"General... how did you let your daughter get this far ahead of you?"
Salvatore’s mouth found a smile that did not reach the red-dotted white of his eyes.
His white hair, tipped in crimson, whipped sharply in the biting wind.
The tattoos winding along his neck stood out starkly against his pale skin, like bold declarations freshly made.
He tilted his head until his vertebrae popped, letting the raw new power in his evolved body ease the tightness in his shoulders.
"It doesn’t matter," he said, his tone flat and final. "I’ll be back."
With a single step, he vanished.
A thick cloud of blood-red mist burst around him, dense enough to erase his silhouette from sight in an instant.
By the time the wind shredded the crimson haze into tatters, General Salvatore had already disappeared without a trace.
---
When General Salvatore reappeared, he found himself outside the world of Loreua entirely.
"Lily didn’t want anyone leaving, right?" he murmured with a proud smile.
He was perfectly content to let Liliana take the lead on this mission—after all, he could sense, more than see, that she was ready.
Although she wasn’t yet at a level where she could be considered outright stronger than him, the Dark Hold she possessed had undeniably altered the balance between them in ways that were both noticeable and significant.
As he stood before the world of Loreua, he let one of his newer bloodline traits run wild.
[Threshold Setter]
HUMMMM!!!!!
Threshold Vampires were well-known as variants that stood near the very peak when it came to anything involving Thresholds—whether those were barriers, limits, or anything designed to restrict.
And when it came to both enforcing such thresholds and shattering them completely, these Vampires were, without a doubt, overwhelmingly powerful.
The instant Salvatore released the trait, his form disintegrated abruptly.
Then he detonated into pure blood, which left nothing of the man standing in the void except a dense, hovering mass of crimson that refused to scatter.
The blood hung there first as a compact sphere... then began to expand.
HUMMMMMM!!!!!
It spread outward in all directions at once, thinning into a vast sheet as layer upon layer unfurled.
The figure swelled beyond the outline of a man, transforming into a massive tide of pure blood that stretched and engulfed the entire world.
In moments, Loreua’s sky shifted from simple darkness to a sea of blood.
It wasn’t just for show either... by now, anyone General Salvatore deemed an enemy had no hope of leaving Loreua unless they wielded more power than he did or carried a bloodline of at least Divine rank.
In this small corner of existence, only a rare few could boast such a lofty heritage.
And his eyes... the entire world of Loreua was an enemy.
From the high vantage of his companions, the change arrived as a second night of a different color.
The Dark Hold had already swallowed the sun, and now a bloody skin clung to the world—so complete it seemed as if the world itself had been wrapped in a pulsing membrane.
The edges of that barrier shifted and sealed, then shifted again, hunting for every last crack and opening, closing them off one by one until there was no clean escape.
After a moment, the barrier shifted again at a single point, and General Salvatore reappeared in the skies above a world now suspended beneath a pure, blood-red world.
A satisfied smile crossed his face for just an instant before he stepped back toward his companions, passing through the glow of the red light.
"We’ll watch for a bit," he said casually. "Then we’re going to save my wife."
----
Well... while General Salvatore wanted to savor the moment of watching his daughter display her power, maybe—just maybe—he was still swept up in the emotions of realizing how far she had truly come.
Still, whatever the reason, he was drastically underestimating just how powerful Liliana really was.
On top of that, he had completely forgotten about someone else.
And honestly, he couldn’t be blamed—after all, the man was impossible to see.
Yet, despite remaining unseen, both Liliana and Melvin—the man in question—were charging toward the same destination.
The Palace.
And neither of them had any intention of wasting a single moment.
Melvin moved through the capital like a silent killer, yet not a single drop of blood touched him.
Everywhere he went, life froze in place—people turned to ice mid-step, their heads severed by cuts so precise they left no trace of a spray.
The whole time, the Dreamer’s Mask hid him completely, leaving no hint he had ever been there, except for the death.
While above him, the millions of beings from the Dark Hold poured through the blood-red heaven toward the palace, and Liliana herself cut past him overhead, flying hard for the heart of the Empire.
"Tsk," Melvin scoffed lightly as he moved through the capital, "No one will take this from me."
To him, the entire Empire of Loria—the whole Loria bloodline—had to be wiped out, and there was no other way around it.
If the Loria believed it was acceptable to dismantle everything the Blackwood Kingdom had built over the years, to have the audacity to shatter the innocence of his mother, disgrace his sister, and trample on the dignity of his father, then they had sealed their own fate.
They had to go, and Melvin felt no remorse for taking the lives of those who had nothing to do with the conflict, because in his eyes, the Blackwood Kingdom had endured the same pain without mercy.
