Chapter 259: The Root of Ruin (6)
"Matt! You better pick up in the next hour!" She said as lifted the token again, brown eyes hard in the half-light.
"I will not sit around waiting, while you play with whatever useless thing has swallowed your... Tsk, reply immediately."
With a deep sigh, she slipped the token into her divine ring.
"Men... are really useless," she muttered, rising from her throne. "And even Father... why has he ordered things to be accelerated again?"
She couldn’t fathom why the timeline kept shifting.
Before, they had all fixed their sights on a decade-long deadline, which she thought was perfect—especially for her, Princess Milan.
She didn’t perform well when rushed, not out of incompetence, but because she was nearly flawless when given enough time.
After all, as the Constellation of the Winning Catalyst, she could force anything to happen so long as the right catalysts were in place.
It was this gift that had allowed her to shape events as she once did, back when she was the Ancestor of Loria.
But now, the Emperor of Loria—or rather, the Smiling Supreme God—had informed her that even after saying the task must be completed by year’s end, the deadline had been cut to just six months.
"How can I make sure... thing succeed in such time? Especially when the damn specimen... is still on Kalpa."
With the thought of the specimen lingering in her mind, she gave a casual wave as she stepped out of the dim inner chamber.
A projection flared to life in the air before her, casting a pale glow through the cave’s gloom.
The instant her gaze landed on the display, her eyes widened in open shock.
"How... is she here?" she murmured, freezing for a heartbeat as her gaze locked in place.
Gradually, the shock eased, melting into a grin that flashed teeth.
The projection... it turned out to be nothing bad at all.
In fact, it was good news—far better than she anything she could have ever anticipated.
"Hmm." She arched a brow, eyes fixed on the projection where a dull blue dot had just appeared.
It was over twenty thousand kilometers away, yet even at such a staggering distance, it was moving impossibly fast.
"She’s grown strong..." Milan murmured, her smile widening. "Well, I have about five minutes."
And there was no mistaking it—she didn’t think of the signal as an object.
Milan thought of the mark as a person, because this was no ordinary marker.
Half a century ago, Milan had placed a living specimen on Kalpa... and now that piece was coming to her, seemingly of its own will.
After a while of watching, she found herself in the main area of the cave, where the light grew brighter, the air lost its sharp mineral chill, and the stone beneath her feet was worn smooth from years of passage.
And even as she appeared here, her focus remained on the approaching blue dot and on the adjustments still available to her hands.
"Since the little specimen has come to me," she said aloud, voice low and pleased in the empty chamber, "I will simply add a few things to ensure the plan proceeds as required."
----
Not far from the cave, at the very edge of the forest Amber had been wandering through, the trees began to thin until they formed what looked like a wall.
Branches and trunks had twisted—or perhaps been carefully coaxed—into a crude archway that perfectly framed the dark, gaping mouth of a cave carved from black stone.
The entrance was set flush against a sheer black rock wall that rose without a ledge or path, looking more like part of a hidden cliff than an ordinary hillside.
Amber stopped before the threshold and tilted her head, long brown hair shifting across one shoulder as she took in the deliberate strangeness of the place.
"Oh... princess." She said as a smile touched her face. "Let’s see what you’re hiding."
HUMMM!!!
In that moment, with both of her colors still active, "white" took her words as though they were literal keys for revelations.
Almost instantly, her eyes began to emit a soft, pale glow, and through the power of Absolute Revelations, the black stone walls of the cave seemed to transform before her.
To her vision, they became translucent, their structure and depth revealed in intricate detail, as if the solid rock had melted into sheets of smoked glass, exposing everything that lay within.
As she gazed ahead, it hit her that this wasn’t going to be as straightforward as she had imagined.
Without even realizing it, she had already triggered something—something that would serve as a catalyst for the Princess waiting within.
The moment her eyes adjusted to the interior of the cave, a strange pressure began to build behind them, as though invisible thumbs were pressing hard into her sockets.
The shimmering walls seemed to twist and ripple, doubling over themselves before bursting with a searing white light that shot from her brow to her temples.
"This..." she murmured, wincing as the pain began to intensify.
For a moment she could not tell whether she was still seeing stone or only the glare of her own forced revelation.
She tore her gaze away with a quick, sharp breath, her hand lifting halfway toward her face before she caught herself and deactivated the power of white.
As the light left from her eyes, she found herself in the ordinary night once more, the world settling back into a hazy blur that took two deliberate blinks to bring into focus.
"Well, it seems Princess Milan is a bit stronger than me at base," she muttered, the words tight around the fading pulse of pain.
The admission didn’t stir fear; instead, a vivid, razor-edged excitement coursed through her.
She took one quick look of the surrounding trees and the black wall, confirmed that Black still held her presence from casual notice, and then stepped forward without further delay, sandals quiet on stone as she crossed into the dark of the cave.
