Chapter 262: Mana Recovery Speed
[Blood Vitalization Spell can now be evolved. Choose an evolution: Advanced Blood Vitalization Spell, Blood Strengthening Spell, Blood Circulation Spell, Blood Oxygenation Spell, Blood Vessel Vitalization Spell.]
There were five options, which was pretty good. Alex carefully looked through each one instead of choosing immediately, because evolving a spell could affect his future development significantly.
The first option was Advanced Blood Vitalization Spell, which was obviously the basic upgrade. It would improve every aspect of Blood Vitalization instead of focusing on a specific function, making it the safest choice among the five.
Alex already had a plan for it as well. He intended to eventually fuse Superior Body Strengthening Spell with Advanced Blood Vitalization Spell, because the two spells had many similarities, and combining them could potentially create something much stronger than either spell alone, something that could boost him physically while increasing him stamina and senses.
More importantly, the fusion might help him understand why life mana could provide a physical boost. He still didn’t completely understand how life mana could do that, and a spell that focused on strengthening his blood through life mana could give him another way to investigate it.
Alex then looked at Blood Strengthening Spell. The name was straightforward, but he wasn’t entirely sure what the Talent meant by strengthening blood.
Would it make each blood cell stronger, increase the amount of life mana they could contain, or simply make his blood more efficient? After thinking about it for a while, Alex came to a reasonable conclusion.
Blood Strengthening Spell would probably strengthen his blood directly, which should improve his endurance and stamina while also making the transportation of nutrients, energy, and other substances through his body more efficient. It was a good spell, especially because it seemed to focus more heavily on stamina than Advanced Blood Vitalization Spell. If Advanced Blood Vitalization Spell boosted all aspects, this one focused on increasing endurance and stamina.
His attention then shifted to Blood Circulation Spell. This spell would probably allow him to control the speed and direction of his blood circulation, which could have quite a few applications.
He could increase his circulation speed when he needed to deliver more oxygen and nutrients throughout his body, or slow it down in specific areas to reduce blood loss after an injury. He could even redirect more blood toward certain parts of his body when necessary, such as his muscles during a difficult battle.
Alex could already do something somewhat similar with mana. By covering his blood cells with mana, he could move the mana and indirectly drag the blood cells along with it, but he hadn’t received any notification for a spell that allowed him to control his blood directly.
That meant Blood Circulation Spell would almost certainly be much better than his crude method.
Them, the Blood Oxygenation Spell.
Alex stared at the name for several seconds. This was probably the most interesting option among the five, because based on its name, the spell would allow him to increase the amount of oxygen contained within his blood.
That should allow his blood to carry more oxygen and potentially provide his body with more energy and stamina. At first glance, its function seemed somewhat similar to Blood Strengthening Spell, but the two spells would work in completely different ways.
Blood Strengthening Spell would presumably use life mana to strengthen the blood itself, while Blood Oxygenation Spell would increase the amount of oxygen contained within the blood. Their results might overlap in some areas, but the mechanism behind them would be completely different.
That wasn’t even the reason Alex found the spell so interesting. The real reason was that Blood Oxygenation Spell had both a huge disadvantage and a potentially huge advantage.
The disadvantage was obvious.
Alex’s species had changed, and he still didn’t know whether oxygen remained as important to his body as it had been before his evolution. He clearly still needed air, but he had no idea exactly what his new body was absorbing from it.
For all he knew, perhaps hydrogen or another component of the air was now more important to his body than oxygen. Even if oxygen was still essential, Alex couldn’t be certain that forcing more oxygen into every blood cell would be safe.
It was entirely possible that doing so could cause some unexpected health problem instead of giving him a boost. Alex had a sinking feeling that it might be harmful, although he couldn’t say that with any certainty. He wasn’t a biology student, and he had been rather careless while studying biology during compulsory education. He vaguely remembered learning about oxygen and blood, but he couldn’t recall enough to confidently determine whether increasing the oxygen concentration of his blood would actually be beneficial.
The disadvantage was significant, but the potential advantage was just as significant.
Blood Oxygenation Spell would clearly require him to inhale a large amount of air before putting more oxygen into his blood cells. Oxygen itself wasn’t necessarily useful if his new species no longer depended on it as heavily as humans did, but there was something else in the air that interested Alex much more.
Origin Energy.
The monsters in the Land of Origin could use Origin Energy, and attune it to different forms, such as Mana, Aura, or Faith. So, it should theoretically be possible to break Origin Energy down and obtain mana from it.
Using the knowledge provided by Blood Oxygenation Spell, Alex might be able to learn how to inhale a large amount of air more efficiently. After that, he would need to find a way to absorb Origin Energy directly and then discover how to break that Origin Energy down so he could obtain mana from it.
There were many steps involved, and Alex had no guarantee that the process would actually work. However, the potential advantage was enormous.
One of the biggest weaknesses of Mages was their poor Mana recovery speed. Warriors could recover Aura relatively quickly, while Priests could recover Faith quickly when they worked together in groups, but Mages often had to wait for their mana to recover naturally.
Alex had a large amount of mana, but having a large mana pool wasn’t particularly useful if he couldn’t replenish it quickly. Even if he possessed enough mana to use powerful spells repeatedly, he would eventually run out if the battle lasted long enough.
That was why Alex needed to find a way to increase his mana recovery speed.
