Chapter 254: Mirror Spearsman
"Yes, you heard me correctly. They can’t return even though they have enough Origin Energy, and we have no idea why it’s happening," Sarah explained.
Alex’s expression became serious as a possibility appeared in his mind, but he didn’t voice it yet. There was no point spending too much time thinking about it when he needed to return to Earth and check what was happening there.
Before using the skill, Alex first checked his Origin Energy. He currently had seventeen units, meaning that spending the night inside the dungeon had increased his reserve by another two units.
He then checked the amount of Origin Energy required to activate the Return skill. He had been caught off guard by the cost several times before, so this time he wanted to make absolutely certain that he knew what he was about to spend.
The skill required four units of Origin Energy for activation. When he had returned to the Land of Origin earlier, he had spent five units in total, with four required because he had reached Adept rank and one consumed by his wand.
Now, however, the cost was still four units.
’So increasing my Awakener rank increases the Origin Energy cost, but increasing my Species rank doesn’t? I wonder why.’
Alex put the thought aside and emptied his Inventory before preparing to activate the skill. Once he was ready, Alex activated the Return skill.
[4 Origin Energy consumed.]
His consciousness dimmed as the familiar sensation of being pulled away from his current body began to take over, and within moments, he could no longer feel his body.
...
Alex’s consciousness slowly returned, and the first thing he noticed was how refreshed he felt. It was almost as if he had just woken up after getting a full night of proper sleep, without any of the exhaustion he had expected after everything that had happened. He blinked several times before sitting up and looking around the room.
’As expected, changing bodies feels like I’ve had a proper sleep,’ he thought.
It was still strange that he could think so calmly about literally having two bodies, but there had been too many strange things happening since the apocalypse began. Perhaps after experiencing enough impossible situations, even something as absurd as having another body eventually stopped feeling shocking.
A screen appeared in front of him.
[Synchronization will begin. Please prepare.]
Alex immediately became serious and began preparing himself. He had experienced synchronization once before, and knew this synchronization would do wonders to his mana pool. He had no intention of being caught unprepared from the mana pool growth this time, unlike when his species evolved, so he started casting his spells while controlling his mana at high speed.
Since he was currently in this body and had access to the lightning element rune, Alex also began using it. A warm sensation spread through his body, and instead of being uncomfortable, it felt soothing as his body slowly adjusted to the changes.
He could feel his muscles becoming stronger, while his mana pool also seemed to be expanding. The process was familiar enough that Alex did not need to pay much attention to it, allowing him to focus on reinforcing his heart. Alex carefully pulled out the excess mana before it could accumulate. Since he had prepared himself beforehand, the process did not catch him by surprise like the last time, allowing him to focus on controlling the spell.
As he reinforced his heart, Alex noticed that his proficiency over the Mana Heart Reinforcement Spell had improved considerably. He was becoming more familiar with the spell, and he felt that he would soon become proficient enough to receive a notification allowing him to ’learn’ it.
He took several deep breaths before climbing down from the tables he had lined together to sleep on. Despite his greatly increased physical abilities, he did not have any trouble controlling his body because he had already gained a huge boost from Superior Body Reinforcement Spell and knew how to move with a strengthened body.
That said, Alex was not using Superior Body Reinforcement Spell for now. Combined with his current stats, it would make him far too strong, and he would probably end up using more strength than necessary whenever he moved, so he needed to slowly adjust to his upgraded physical abilities first.
Since he was not using Superior Body Reinforcement Spell, Alex decided to use the opportunity to train his Blood Vitalization Spell. He already knew that Blood Vitalization did not work properly alongside body reinforcement spells, but there was still a reason for him to keep the spell active.
Blood Vitalization strengthened the body’s cells by supplying them with reinforced, oxygen-carrying blood cells. However, when a body reinforcement spell was active, the cells had already been strengthened with mana, which meant the additional boost provided by the reinforced blood became much
Because of this, Blood Vitalization did not provide an additional physical boost when used with any type of body reinforcement spell. Even so, the spell still increased his stamina, so Alex always preferred to keep it active whenever possible.
’I wonder if I can combine Blood Vitalization Spell and Superior Body Reinforcement Spell. Maybe that will give me a spell that can strengthen my body while also keeping my stamina levels high,’ he thought.
It was something he would have to test later. For now, Alex finished adjusting to his body and finally stepped out of the room, where he immediately noticed a young man standing nearby and leaning against a spear.
The young man looked sleepy, but the moment he saw Alex, his eyes widened and he immediately straightened himself. He quickly raised his hand in salute and said, "G-Good afternoon, sir!"
Alex nodded, though inwardly he was wondering why the young man was saluting him. He decided not to focus on that question for now and instead asked, "Who are you?"
"Leik Abron, Level 13, Mirror Spearsman," the young man replied.
