My Husband Is An International Idol

Chapter 124: The Decoy

The operation began at exactly 7:30 in the morning. Every member of the rescue team took their assigned positions.

The streets of Sterling Village looked no different from any ordinary day.

An old man swept fallen leaves. A mother walked her child to school. A delivery truck slowly rolled past the chapel.

Everything appeared normal.

Only those involved knew that dozens of officers were already surrounding the old Finn property.

Inside the command vehicle parked several streets away, Tactical Commander Alexander Pierce studied the live feeds.

"Report."

"Target exiting the residence."

One surveillance officer zoomed in.

Harry Finn stepped outside wearing a gray hooded jacket, a baseball cap, sunglasses, and carrying a reusable grocery bag.

His appearance was deliberately ordinary. He locked the gate behind him before walking calmly toward the village market.

Chris watched the screen. Something felt wrong.

"He isn’t looking back."

Victor folded his arms.

"Too confident."

Sarah quietly added,

"Or he wants us to think he’s confident."

Alexander remained calm.

"Maintain surveillance. Do not engage."

The hidden cameras followed Harry as he continued toward the market. Everything matched his routine.

Alexander finally nodded.

"Entry team. Move."

Within seconds, officers quietly crossed the street. The front gate was opened without damaging it. Another team secured the backyard. A third surrounded every possible exit.

The operation remained completely silent. No shouting. No alarms. Only hand signals.

Alexander entered first. Victor followed. Chris remained only a step behind despite every effort to remain calm.

The house appeared empty. Exactly as it had during surveillance.

The kitchen. Clear.

Living room. Clear.

Parents’ bedroom. Clear.

Harry’s bedroom...

Alexander stopped.

"The floor."

Victor immediately knelt. The wooden boards beneath the bed looked slightly different. They found a concealed handle at exactly where the old architectural drawing had suggested.

Two officers carefully lifted the section of flooring. A narrow staircase appeared beneath it. It was dark, cold and silent.

Alexander spoke into his radio.

"Hidden access confirmed."

He looked toward Chris.

"You stay behind me."

Chris nodded.

But everyone knew that if Liliana was there, nothing would stop him.

The team slowly descended. Each step echoed softly. The underground passage smelled damp. And a faint light glowed beneath the final doorway.

Alexander raised his hand.

Everyone stopped.

He counted silently.

Three.

Two.

One.

The door swung open.

Chris’s eyes immediately searched the room.

Then, he saw her.

"Lily..."

His voice barely escaped.

Liliana sat against the far wall.

She wore the same cream-colored blouse and light skirt she had worn during the lipstick campaign ten days earlier.

The clothes were wrinkled. Her long brown hair had lost its neat waves and fell loosely around her face.

Dark circles rested beneath her swollen green eyes. And they were filled with exhaustion, fear and relief.

Her wrists were tied. Her ankles remained bound. And a strip of tape covered her mouth.

The moment she saw Chris, fresh tears immediately filled her eyes. She tried desperately to say something. She shook her head over and over.

"Mmm!"

"Mmm!"

Chris misunderstood. He thought she was simply crying.

"Lily!"

He rushed forward.

She struggled harder against the ropes.

"No!"

The sound couldn’t escape beneath the tape. Her eyes widened with panic. She wasn’t warning him about herself. She was warning him about someone behind him.

Then a figure suddenly emerged from the darkness behind an old storage cabinet.

Harry Finn.

He wasn’t wearing the hooded jacket anymore. He had never gone to the market. Because the person who had left the house was a decoy.

Harry lunged toward Chris. The impact knocked them both to the floor.

"Chris!" Victor shouted.

Harry grabbed at Chris, trying to pin him down. Chris twisted free, pushing Harry away. Both men scrambled to their feet. Harry swung wildly. Chris blocked the strike and shoved him backward. Furniture crashed against the wall. The small underground room echoed with the struggle.

"Lily is coming with me!"

Harry shouted.

"You already took her once!"

Chris answered through clenched teeth.

"She was never yours!"

Harry charged again.

This time Chris caught him, and both men stumbled into the table, sending dishes and chairs crashing to the ground.

Alexander immediately moved forward.

"Stand down!"

Neither man heard him. Years of obsession collided with ten days of desperation.

When Harry reached toward his pocket, Alexander instantly recognized the movement.

"Hands!"

The room erupted into motion. Officers rushed forward. Harry resisted violently, trying to break free. Chris instinctively moved between Harry and Liliana.

Everything happened at once.

Someone shouted.

"Weapon!"

A deafening gunshot echoed through the underground room.

Then... Silence.

For one terrifying second, no one moved. The smell of gunpowder lingered in the air. Liliana’s eyes widened in horror.

Time itself seemed to stop. She stared at the scene before her. A dark stain spread across the wooden floor. Her breathing became ragged. The tape over her mouth muffled a desperate cry. Tears streamed freely down her face.

Chris... She wanted to call his name. Her heart pounded. She was more terrified by the scene in front of her, and more worried that Chris had been shot.

Everything blurred together.

Alexander immediately took command.

"Medic!"

"Secure the weapon!"

"Clear the room!"

Officers rushed into action. Victor and Sarah hurried toward Liliana.

Then, Chris turned instantly, ignoring everything else.

"Lily!"

He reached her within seconds. His shaking hands carefully peeled the tape away from her mouth. The first thing she did wasn’t scream. She threw herself into him as far as the ropes allowed.

"Chris, you’re okay." Her voice broke.

"You found me."

She sobbed uncontrollably. Chris wrapped both arms around her, holding her as gently as he could while an officer hurried to cut the ropes from her wrists and ankles.

He rested his forehead against hers.

"I’m here."

His own tears finally fell.

"I’m here."

"And I’m never letting you go again."

Around them, the rescue operation continued.

But for Chris and Liliana, the world had narrowed to a single moment.

After ten endless days apart, they had finally found each other again.
