Chapter 303: To take a break
Lillian twitched her lips and settled onto the plush sofa, gesturing for Lewis to sit as well. "So, where have you been?" she asked, tilting her head slightly, her gaze following him as he took a seat across from her.
"The King entrusted me with an important task," Lewis replied, his tone measured and revealing little about the nature of his sudden departure.
"I want the reason," Lillian insisted to know the truth.
"Ask your father," Lewis said, moving to sit beside her. "The matter is supposed to be confidential. No one should know about it unless the King decides otherwise," he asserted, his eyes meeting hers with a steady resolve.
Lillian hummed thoughtfully, turning her gaze forward. "Will you disappear like this again?" she questioned, her voice softer now, laced with concern.
"No. However, the future is uncertain," Lewis answered. "I heard the Princess missed me a lot. She even got angry at her father, who sent me away for some important work. I didn’t know our one meeting would leave such an impact on the Princess," Lewis stated. He turned his head, smiling amusingly at her.
"That’s not true. I don’t like to be ghosted," Lillian replied. "And now only two weeks remained for the month to be over, I believe you won’t win over me," she affirmed.
Lewis chuckled at her statement. "I never lose, Princess," he said with a confident tone.
Lillian gazed at him finally. "Don’t be too delusion. It’s not your battlefield," she pronounced.
"It is. Winning over your heart is a battle, tougher than fighting an enemy," Lewis stated.
His response stirred Lillian’s insides. He was the first man who was quite flattery with his words. She kept herself composed, not wanting to show her vulnerability on her face.
