Chapter 28 – Windthrow Zerzan Pt.3
Windthrow Zerzan would wake with the sun –he had his mentor to thank for that particular trauma.
Judging by her pose, Vylet had clearly struggled with different beasts during her life…She lay sprawled out, one horn impaling the pillow, and a talon draping off the bed. A beautiful disaster –typical Vylet.
Windthrow stretched, loosening his limbs for the day ahead. He jogged around the lake. Maybe some exercise would clear his head. Weavers setting up their spinning wheels, the sound of hammer on anvil already echoing from the Blacksmith Guild. Strive was coming to life; he felt a cold sweat at the back of his neck.
On the far side of the lake Windthrow watched as a group of Rangers strung their bows, preparing for the day’s hunt.
That reminded him…what was it Lancet whispered at the fort? To visit her at the Ranger’s Guild when she returned from Six Dice?
Didn’t matter! He jogged over to the Group, struck up a conversation, showed his bow and showed off his silver dagger. They invited him for a hunt, he said he’d consider it. But an excuse to not face the crowds of Strive for the next week...that did sound appealing.
After almost fainting during the rotational job assignment, in front of Vylet no less –he decided to join their hunts. Everyday.
That was until one night, he returned to town after a successful hunt. They’d dropped off a massive boar; thing took a couple dozen arrows to take down. After dropping it off, he heard a beautiful voice in the distance.
Before he could understand, he followed the music, tracking it like an animal through the quiet paths of Strive. Who was playing music? Who was singing?
Under the ethereal light of the twin moons was Vylet –strumming her guitar and singing. Each scale glittered under this strange light. Vylet’s long black hair framed her features perfectly. She wasn’t an angel –not with those horns and scales– but something strange and alluring.
Windthrow needed to have her. This past week he’d missed her dearly, and almost convinced himself that the week was going well.
It was time to make up for it. Tonight!
