God Crafter

**Chapter 35: What He Gained**

---

Kai stopped three rooftops away from the Sovereign Exchange.

He stood in the Eternal Fade and looked back at the lit windows and ran the thought again — the one that had gotten him moving in the first place.

*The people who bought something significant today are going to need to survive long enough to use it.*

He turned it over and found the flaw in it almost immediately.

This was not a world where strength was protected by someone else's goodwill. He'd built everything he had on the opposite principle — every stat, every breakthrough, every Mana cap he'd shattered had come from refusing to accept a ceiling because the world told him to. Lord Crest doubling his security wasn't a request for help. It was Lord Crest doing exactly what a person with resources did when they acquired something valuable in a world that ran on strength.

If Elder Shen couldn't keep what he'd bought, the world wouldn't care that he'd paid for it.

If Madame Luo's network wasn't strong enough to defend a Talent Seed, someone stronger would take it from her — and that taking would be no different in kind from what Kai had done to every D-rank dungeon floor boss that hadn't been strong enough to keep its core.

*I almost made myself their guard dog,* he thought, and felt something close to embarrassment at how far he'd gotten before catching it.

He released the thought entirely.

The Ghost Alchemist sold power. The Ghost Alchemist did not referee what people did with it afterward. If Lord Crest's house couldn't hold a Divine Dragon Bloodline against someone who decided to take it by force, that contest would happen with or without Kai watching.

He went home.

---

The total arrived from Sera two days later, fully verified.

He read it in the back room with the lamp on and Mei asleep down the hall and his mother's quiet breathing audible through the thin wall.

**Sovereign Exchange — First Auction, Final Settlement**

**Invitation fees: 11,500,000 crystals**

**Total lot sales: 1,047,300,000 crystals**

**Exchange commission (15%): 157,095,000 crystals**

**Net to supplier: 901,705,000 crystals**

He read the net figure three times.

Three weeks ago he'd cleared a family debt of five thousand crystals and felt the floor shift under him. This was the verified, final, accounted number sitting in its place now.

He sat with it the way he'd sat with every previous threshold — not with excitement, something steadier than that. He thought about what nine hundred million crystals represented in this world's economy. Noble houses managed estates worth tens of millions across generations. A mid-tier sect's entire annual operating budget rarely exceeded fifty million. He had generated, in a single morning, more wealth than most institutions accumulated in a decade.

And it had cost him creation sessions in a back room and Mana he regenerated faster than he could spend.

---

He opened the spatial storage and looked at the list. Thirty-one entries now, the margins filling faster than he could act on them.

He thought about what the money built. Infrastructure. Proper creation facilities. Resources for cultivation research that pushed past what his own knowledge could reach alone. Sera's network expanding across the continent instead of one city.

He sat with that for a while.

Then a different thought arrived — quieter, less comfortable than the satisfaction should have been.

He looked at his hands.

Every milestone he'd crossed in the last six weeks had come from the same source. Creation. Cultivation. Stat thresholds dissolved by pills he'd designed himself. The dungeon runs had been resource collection dressed up as combat — the Fracture Sovereign, the Ashwarden, the C-rank floor entity he'd taken down in eleven minutes. Real fights, technically. But every one of them had been a fight he'd already won on paper before he walked through the gate, because his stats had outpaced the challenge before he ever drew a blade.

He had never actually been *tested.*

Not once since the alley.

He thought about the twin blades sitting on the desk — the second pair, the D-rank ones, built for a body that had since doubled past their design twice over. He thought about the combat art he'd created and revised and never once needed to use against something that could have killed him if he'd gotten it wrong.

*I've been winning by being the strongest person in every room I walk into,* he thought. *I haven't found out what happens when I'm not.*

It wasn't a comfortable thought. He sat with it anyway, because comfortable thoughts rarely told him anything useful.

He thought about the C-rank dungeon's deeper layers he hadn't bothered exploring once the floor boss stopped being a genuine fight. About the combat art's later sequences he'd written but never needed under real pressure. About a Talent Inheritance with four abilities he'd tested once each, in controlled conditions, against nothing that could push back.

*Creation builds the weapon,* he thought. *It doesn't teach me how to use it when the weapon isn't enough.*

He didn't know yet what would be enough to actually push him. The C-rank dungeon hadn't managed it. Nothing in Neo-Eden currently in his orbit looked capable of it.

But he found, sitting in the quiet of the back room with nine hundred million crystals settled and a catalogue that had reshaped a continent's power structure in one morning, that he wanted to find out.

Not for the auction. Not for the market. Not for his family's safety, which the Law Inscription and his own existence had already secured past any threat he could currently imagine.

Just for himself.

He closed the spatial storage.

Picked up the twin blades.

*Tomorrow,* he thought. *Back to the dungeon. Not for cores.*

*For a real fight.*

He didn't know yet that the world was about to hand him exactly that — at a scale he hadn't accounted for.
