Hatake Sakumo stood up and said, "When they moved against Shinba, I ended up sending Gekko Shu to save him.
"I knew Shinba was being sent to his death. And through Gekko Shu's appearance, the higher-ups now know that I knew.
"It is a tacit understanding. We just haven't said it out loud.
"At this point, I no longer have a choice.
"If I keep compromising, the people around me—Gekko Shu, Yamashiroji, Hayama Shirakumo, Shinba, and the rest, perhaps even Kakashi and Namikaze Minato—might all be framed and targeted by the village higher-ups because of me.
