Chapter 409: The Perfect Guinea Pig
Hearing Lord Fox ask if the Cloud Ninja had assassinated the Daimyo, Nara Kyoichi shook his head.
"I haven't found any direct evidence," he said. "What should we do, Lord Fox? I'm afraid the Daimyo isn't just missing—he's already dead."
"What do we need evidence for? If we produced evidence, would the Cloud Ninja actually admit it?" Yako asked. "Kyoichi, be a little more flexible. Bold assumptions, fearless framing—this has always been the Anbu's standard operating principle. We don't need evidence. If the Cloud Ninja have a motive, then they absolutely did it. The Cloud Ninja definitely seized the opportunity while we were vulnerable to murder the Daimyo. Kyoichi, head back to Kyoto first. Use your brilliance to pin this entire mess squarely on the Cloud Ninja."
Nara Kyoichi felt deeply bitter.
They could arrange things this way, but he didn't know if anyone else would actually believe it.
Yako said, "The focus of our propaganda is that Konoha has the least reason to murder the Daimyo. It is the Cloud Ninja who refuse to give up and are trying to use underhanded tricks outside the battlefield to heavily damage Konoha."
Nara Kyoichi nodded. Phrasing it like that was logically sound. The Land of Hot Water had already returned to Konohagakure's hands, so Konoha truly had no motive to assassinate the Daimyo.
"Lord Fox," Nara Kyoichi added, "I found out that the Daimyo of the Land of Hot Water had bought off a number of wandering ninja in an attempt to establish the Hidden Hot Water Village. After hearing that the Daimyo had been murdered, those wandering ninja fled Kyoto in a panic."
Yako remembered that in the original story, Hidan wore a forehead protector; he was a rogue ninja of the Hidden Hot Water Village.
