Chapter 205 - 201: Dollhouse
Jiang Li came out with the medicine. Just as she reached the hospital room door, she saw Zhou Tiancheng and Ji Qinghe, who had found a moment to visit Zhao Shuo.
Jiang Li peeked from the doorway, not wanting to intrude.
Ji Qinghe came out, saw Jiang Li, and approached her. "Jiang Li, how’s your hand doing?"
"It’s fine," Jiang Li said with a smile to Ji Qinghe.
Hearing her say "it’s fine," Lu Xingye’s thin lips pressed into a tight line.
Ji Qinghe walked over to Jiang Li and looked at her hand. "Jiang Li, you need to focus on recovering. Don’t worry about anything else, alright?"
Jiang Li nodded at her. "I know, Officer Ji. Don’t worry, I’ll be careful."
"Why are you still calling me Officer Ji? From now on, just call me Sister Qinghe." Ji Qinghe looked at Jiang Li. Hearing "Officer Ji" over and over sounded so distant.
"Okay, Sister Qinghe."
Ji Qinghe smiled, satisfied. "You all should head back early. Xingye is here, and that’s enough."
Jiang Li glanced at Zhao Shuo, who had fallen soundly asleep again, and had no choice but to leave with Yu Huannian and the others.
Just as Jiang Li and her friends reached the ground floor of the hospital, Chi Yu ran after them.
"Jiang Li, wait!"
Confused, Jiang Li turned to look at him. A moment later, a bank card was pressed into her hand.
She looked up at Chi Yu, bewildered.
"A little something for the new title," Chi Yu said, his gaze lowered to her dazed expression.
"Then... thank you, Brother Chi." Jiang Li accepted it. They had exchanged contact info back in City A, but they hadn’t been in touch since.
’What kind of gift for a new title requires a bank card?’
"The PIN is six zeroes. I’ve got to get back to something, so I’m heading up."
With that, Chi Yu turned and went back into the hospital to attend to his business.
Jiang Li watched his back as he left. When it came to the nuances of social etiquette, she was always remarkably slow on the uptake.
’But she was truly at a loss, unsure how to navigate these gestures of friendship and obligation.’
"Wow, Jiang Li, you’ve really got yourself a good big brother—and a handsome one at that!" Wu Ming said, waggling her eyebrows at Jiang Li.
Jiang Li could only give her a helpless smile.
Back home, Jiang Li was living like a queen again. Aside from going to the bathroom, she was waited on for practically everything.
Another month and a half flew by. Jiang Li’s hand had healed considerably, and during that time, she had spent hours online researching Kun Sha.
She had managed to learn a few things. Just as Lu Xingye had said, Kun Sha was a man feared by all.
In the early days, many officers had died trying to capture him. The reason Kun Sha was eventually driven out was because of a narcotics officer named Shao Zhenhua.
Jiang Li looked at Shao Zhenhua’s photo. His face was covered in scars from knife wounds, and his determined gaze seemed to pierce right through to the soul.
’Being able to find this information could only mean one thing: the officer had no surviving family.’
Jiang Li read on. Three generations of his family had been police officers, including his wife. His wife and child had died during that same takedown operation.
Reading this, Jiang Li sighed with emotion. ’What a true hero, a story both tragic and inspiring.’
As her thoughts trailed off, she sighed inwardly. ’After all this research, I still can’t figure out why he’s targeting me.’
’If I can’t figure it out, I’ll just stop thinking about it.’
"Jiang Li, you’ve got packages!"
Wu Ming had someone bring the packages inside. There were at least ten or twenty of them.
Jiang Li glanced over. "You can open them for me."
Idle at home every day with nothing to do, she’d developed a temporary obsession with online shopping.
Wu Ming picked up a box cutter. "My pleasure!"
Who doesn’t love unboxing packages, after all?
"What in the world did you buy this for?"
Wu Ming stared at a few flat pieces of wood, wondering what they were.
"That’s a dollhouse. A DIY kit."
"Little Li saw one and wanted it, so I had a display cabinet made and bought a bunch of them to fill it."
"You shouldn’t have too many dolls," Wu Ming muttered, but she still diligently helped her unpack the pieces and set them aside.
There was miniature furniture and exquisite little dresses. By the end, Wu Ming’s own eyes were sparkling, and she was asking Jiang Li for the product links.
Yu Huannian glanced over. He didn’t get the appeal, but he could respect it.
Miao Anji looked at all the delicate little items as if a whole new world had opened up to him. He immediately grabbed his phone and started buying a bunch for himself.
’So many exquisite things... perfect for raising my Gu Worms!’
As he was about to pay, Miao Anji’s hand paused. ’Am I spoiling them too much?’
He thought about his Red Scorpion, already living in a luxurious "manor," and the corner of his mouth twitched. He decided to buy some to try out anyway.
That Red Scorpion had grown completely disdainful of him lately. It was content to just hang around Jiang Li, even forming its own little clique and defecting to her side.
It made him, its master, look totally inept.
Yu Huannian watched the three of them and couldn’t bear to look. It was one thing for the two girls to get excited, but why was a guy like Miao Anji jumping on the bandwagon?
After clumsily assembling and arranging the pieces, Jiang Li went to bed. That night, perhaps because she’d spent so much time on the dollhouses, she found herself dreaming she was in a villa.
The villa was old and styled in a vintage fashion, with cobwebs and moss clinging to the walls. An indescribable odor filled her nostrils—a damp, musty smell tinged with the scent of blood.
Her vision shifted. In a grand, palatial hall, several "dolls" dressed in vintage Lolita outfits were sitting on a sofa.
Seeing this, Jiang Li thought, ’I’ve definitely bought too many dolls and dollhouses. I’m never buying them again.’
She started walking toward the exquisite dolls, only then realizing her feet were on a spiral staircase.
When she reached the living room, she drew closer and closer to the dolls. Beneath the chandelier, their skin was so white it seemed to glow.
In the next instant, Jiang Li stared in shock at the scene before her. These weren’t dolls at all—they were clearly people!
She took a delicate box from a nearby cabinet and opened it. Inside was a collection of cosmetics in embossed cases.
She began applying makeup to the "dolls." As she leaned in, the smell of blood grew stronger. She glanced at the red Lolita dress on the one beside her.
A shocking thought popped into her head. ’Could the red on this dress be... blood?’
The next moment, as her hand touched the fabric, she felt a dampness. Her fair fingertips came away stained red.
’It really is blood!’
Jiang Li’s heart started pounding—THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. The scene before her was utterly horrifying. This wasn’t just some murder scene; it was straight out of a horror movie!
But the shocks were far from over. Her vision shifted again. Beside a long dining table sat several more exquisite dolls. Delicate desserts were placed before them, surrounded by fresh flowers.
Jiang Li gasped. She had a feeling that when she woke up, she wouldn’t be able to look at her cabinet full of dollhouses.
She replaced the stale desserts on the table with a freshly made afternoon tea service, complete with delicate plates and cups.
The "master’s" mood was just like her own when she arranged her dollhouses and dolls: happy and filled with a sense of accomplishment.
A chill shot up from the soles of Jiang Li’s feet. ’A dollhouse brought to life? No, thank you.’
After arranging the table, she walked to the other side of the room, pushed open a large door, and saw a completely naked man lying on the bed inside.
A cart beside the bed was filled with all sorts of tools—a familiar scene.
She first observed the man before her, then picked up a pen and drew a line on his face. And with that, the plastic surgery began...
