Despite Alpha Hunter’s efforts to keep things quiet, a few close friends had heard the news.
By late evening, a few close friends had quietly made their way to the hospital.
When Hannah and Xavier arrived around eleven PM, AlphaDominic had Vincent post a "no more visitors" sign on the door.
He was done being a zoo exhibit. He just wanted time alone with his mate.
Hannah hugged her best friend. "Elara, thank God everything’s okay now. But you need to take care of yourself."
Elara nodded. "I will. How are things with you and Xavier?"
Hannah’s face turned red. "They’re... good. Really good."
Elara noticed her expression and smirked. "Why are you glowing? Did someone get lucky on their honeymoon?"
Hannah smacked her arm, knowing she was asking on purpose.
Elara laughed. "Alright, I’ll stop. I just want you happy. You look like you won the lottery."
"He’s... not as much of a pain in the ass as I thought," Hannah admitted.
Near midnight, the hospital corridors had finally gone quiet.
Alpha Dominic had sweet-talked the night nurse into pushing their beds together, and now he was making the most of their privacy.
With one hand hooked up to an IV, he used his other hand to feed Elara cherries.
"Sweet?"
"Very sweet." Elara enjoyed being pampered.
Alpha Dominic’s amber eyes darkened. "Let me taste."
He leaned down to kiss her.
But someone knocked on the door at exactly the wrong moment.
Neither of them expected the visitor to be Alpha Zack.
Alpha Dominic knew Alpha Zack had made some calls during the kidnapping, but that was about it.
"What are you doing here?"
"Came to check on you."
Alpha Zack’s gaze shifted to Elara. "Elara, I’d like to speak with him alone."
Elara’s eyebrows shot up. She hadn’t expected Alpha Zack to come calling this time.
Her protective instincts kicked in immediately. "What do you need to talk to my husband about?"
"Is there something I can’t hear?"
This fierce energy from his mate made Alpha Dominic’s chest swell with pride. His eyebrows lifted, lips curving smugly. "That’s right. My wife can hear anything we discuss."
Alpha Zack looked between the two of them, his eyes finally locking with Alpha Dominic’s amber ones. "What, you think I’m here to start a fight with a guy in a hospital gown?"
Alpha Dominic bristled at the condescending tone.
"Love, be good. Wait outside for me."
"But..."
"Just five minutes. I promise."
Elara reluctantly gave in. As she left, she shot Alpha Zack a look that could have melted steel.
He got the message loud and clear.
Alpha Zack felt like shit. Whatever pain he’d caused before, karma was paying him back with interest.
"So. What’s this about? Oh, I heard my wife slapped the hell out of you. How about this - the Riverside development project goes to Blackwood Pack. We good?"
Alpha Zack’s jaw tightened. "That’s not what I came to talk about."
"I’m catching a red-eye flight in a few hours. I’m really leaving this time. But I need you to promise me you won’t hurt her. If you screw this up, I’ll come back and take her away from you."
"Do we understand each other?"
Alpha Dominic’s expression went ice-cold, and he let out a harsh laugh. "Alpha Zack, you make one phone call - barely get that right - and now you’re making threats?"
Even without Alpha Zack’s tip, Yardley’s team would have tracked them down.
And the location Alpha Zack provided wasn’t even the real hideout anyway.
"Don’t worry. You’re the one who broke her heart. I’m not giving you any second chances."
What was his would always be his. End of story.
Alpha Zack hadn’t come here to pick a fight. He took a deep breath. "Fine. I hope you mean that."
"I’m out of here."
He opened the hospital room door without another word. The entire conversation had lasted exactly four minutes.
Alpha Zack looked at Elara one last time - really looked at her, like he was trying to memorize her face.
"I’m leaving town. Take care of yourself."
Elara’s expression didn’t change. Her gaze didn’t linger. She turned and went back into the hospital room without a word.
The cold steel in Alpha Dominic’s amber eyes melted instantly when she walked in.
From now on, in any room full of people, he would always be the first person she looked at.
And Alpha Zack would just be another face in her past.
