Chapter 58: A Fate Already Decided
Following her was easy. Fortunately, both of them were trained in erasing their presence, so sneaking around wasn't a big challenge.
What surprised them the most was how Talia had managed to reach the third floor.
Surely, she hadn't used the second floor. And the path from the second floor to the third was completely open... which made Nuri wonder.
Had the monster not come to the third floor? Was it still contained somewhere beneath all of this?
There was no need to jump to conclusions right now. They had to focus on what was in front of them.
“Hey, stop! Where are you going? Look, they stopped.”
Alina smacked Nuri on the back of the head. He turned around and stared at her with wide eyes, but she simply turned her head away.
Talia and the butler had stopped directly in front of a room. The butler seemed to be opening it with a key.
That bundle of keys... it was the same one they had!
Seriously?! Even him... man, they really had been thoroughly fooled.
Nuri looked around, searching for somewhere they could get closer from without being noticed. But then he saw something.
It was shining, almost golden.
Was it...?
Without wasting a moment, he hurried over without being noticed.
But when he arrived, there was nothing special there. It seemed like he had simply imagined it.
Nuri couldn't help but laugh at himself. Why had he even run over like that? Lucien probably had some ability that allowed him to become invisible or something.

He heard a soft voice behind him. Nuri turned around to see Alina standing there with a completely red face. She looked absolutely livid.
Damn it.
“What were you thinking?! Just running like that! Is your head only there for decoration?! Was it really too much to ask for you to wait and make sure it was clear before running into some secluded corner?!”
Alina looked completely exhausted after her rant. She simply stared at him while what almost looked like smoke escaped from her head.
“I'm sorry... I thought Lucien was here.” Nuri lowered his head, staring at the marble pavement.
“Why would he even be here? No, wait, more importantly, why would he even show himself like that?!”
She was right. The more Nuri thought about it, the more impulsive his decision seemed. She had every right to be angry at him.
Thankfully, after getting everything off her chest, Alina seemed to calm down. Even her breathing had returned to normal.
“Hey... what's that?” She pointed toward something on the ground.
Following the direction of her hand, Nuri looked down. There was a small note lying on the pavement.
He looked up at Alina, his expression immediately changing.
“Was he actually here?” This time, Alina's voice sounded nervous.
It really was possible. There was no way a servant had simply forgotten to clean something like this; the mansion was spotless, almost unnaturally so.
Nuri bent down and picked up the note. But as he had imagined, it hadn't actually been left behind by Lucien.
It was something else: a doctor's note.
Alina came closer and looked at it as well. The contents were strange, almost difficult to understand.
«As I have told you, miss, again and again, it is impossible to save him. Once a god has decided his fate, it is over.»
Nuri stared at the note. What kind of doctor would write something like that? No matter how hopeless a situation was, wouldn't a doctor normally do everything they could to save their patient?
The two siblings looked at each other. They both understood who the note was most likely talking about.
The young master.
But how were they supposed to reach him? And even if they did, what guarantee was there that he would explain anything?
No matter where they looked, everything seemed to lead to a dead end. This was frustrating.
“How are we supposed to get him to speak?” Nuri asked, looking at Alina with tired eyes.
Alina didn't have an answer either; this was difficult for her too.
“Maybe... we could try to sympathize with him?” She hesitated. “Although, I'm sure we've never been through anything like what he has.”
Nuri remained silent for a moment.
Yes. They had to try. There was no way they were going to learn anything by simply standing around.
“Let's go.” Nuri looked toward the room where Talia had disappeared. “Talia has been gone for a while now...”
He tightened his grip on the note.
“This is... this is our chance.”
