Chapter 58: Broke
Shortly after the commotion was made, Sylas had no choice but to order them to scatter.
It was an order from the Fourth Prince, so many scattered away.
Of course, Ray remained in the scene because he wasn’t afraid of the Fourth Prince. When compared to the Marquis, the Fourth Prince was no different than a toddler.
If he was able to handle the Marquis, he totally could take down a puny Fourth Prince.
’Better not force my hands or I’ll reveal your secret underground gambling house.’ Ray sneered inwardly. The power of remembering the plotline was truly unfathomable.
[Host... you simply purchase Sylas’ Character Profile for 50 Villain Points. What memory do you even remember?]
’Shut the fuck up! I’m not an encyclopedia or Wikipedia that stores an abundant amount of memory. Those protagonists who always remember this and that at critical moments are what I call a fake and goddamn plot armor device.’
Had his memory truly been amazing, then he would have still become a god in his old world.
"Anyway, how should we resolve this problem?" Sylas turned to Samantha and asked. He was planning on roping William into his party.
And truth be told, he was surprised by William’s quick adaptation in combat at the training facility.
It was because of that he decided to treat William to a good meal at the cafeteria to establish a good rapport.
Yet that was all ruined when William’s reputation tanked completely.
If rumors were spread that a man who can’t get their thing up was at his party, it would look extremely bad for him.
No matter how talented an individual was, if their reputation was ruined, it would be a big obstacle.
"I don’t have any money." Samantha pursed her lips. She was carrying these boxes because she accepted assignments from Professors to earn extra income as well as to get on their good side.
She couldn’t have imagined her plan would be spoiled before it even showed fruition.
The worst part of it all?
This despicable villain actually caused the fire to burn brighter.
’Why did you have to tease him this badly?’ She cried inwardly, her eyes subtly glancing at Ray. Things could have been resolved more easily with just an apology and a little bit more action.
"Why are you looking at me?" Ray suddenly raised an eyebrow.
"I have no money either, so don’t expect me to pay on your behalf to fix his uhh.. thing."
"I’m fine!" William suddenly said and stood up.
He had no intention of pursuing the matter when it was clearly an accident, nor did he expect compensation.
Of course, it was more correct to say that William had the typical dense personality and remained unaware of what the rumor about him was going to be about.
Once again, Ray cannot understand how he endured this trashy novel for so long.
’Oh, that’s right, this novel is considered a pioneer and a classic. Despite the numerous haters, it still has a substantial fanbase.’ He was exasperated.
"Are you sure you’re fine and don’t want any compensation?" Sylas was dumbfounded by William’s kindness.
Had it been him, he would have definitely made sure that person understood what it meant to mess up.
"Look at his magnanimous conduct, Sam!" Ray quickly said and slapped her in the back. "Hurry up and thank him!"
"Ah, yes!" Samantha snapped out of her daze and bowed her head. "Thank you for your forgiveness!"
"Belva, pick up the boxes with your mana." Once the apology was said, Ray gave an instruction and held Samantha’s hand.
Then, without hesitation, he sped off at a distance with her while Belva closed in behind.
’Got to escape fast so that the shrewd Fourth Prince can’t change William’s mind.’ He was positive that the Fourth Prince was going to impart some knowledge to William’s mindset.
Thus, he cannot let him have any opportunity to do so.
Samantha was his heroine card for farm points, so he definitely cannot let his cultivation land get away.
He worked way too hard for this.
Needless to say, his behavior was misunderstood by Samantha as she glanced at his hand that was holding hers tightly.
’Oh my god, he isn’t interested in me, right? Please not! I cannot stand his face.’ She cried inwardly and prayed for her life.
Sometime later, they arrived at a somewhat quiet place without many students walking around.
"Ray, please listen—" Samantha thought she was going to get confessed or something equivalent, but before she could finish her words, Ray already released his hand and scolded.
"You fucking blind idiot!" His face was filled with disdain as he poked her forehead with his finger.
"Do you even have eyes or something? You were using the bow and arrow like some hunter, but your perception is really trash! I wouldn’t even trust my back to someone like you who can’t even see the front."
"W-What?" Samantha was flabbergasted by the harsh scolding without any filter.
In the meantime, Belva calmly placed down the boxes and showed no reaction to the scolding phase.
’As expected, this is just another one of his tools.’ She had deduced correctly.
Others might try to get close to Samantha because she got some looks, but definitely not Ray.
Belva really wasn’t the bragging type, but if she had to be honest, her appearance was far superior to Samantha’s, even when she was older.
While she was proud of her appearance, Ray continued his unfiltered scolding, which rendered Samantha to the ground.
"I didn’t want to be blind either," Samantha argued.
"Oh, yeah, then how come you can’t even see your path when you get mana?"
"I—"
Suddenly, her stomach growled at the worst timing.
Instantly, Ray was rendered speechless when he heard the loud growling sound.
"Wow, so you were starving to death and compensated for that with mana. Just how broke are you to not even be able to afford regular bread?" Ray twitched his lips in disbelief.
Imagine using your mana to fill up your empty stomach?
That was something else!
