Chapter 49: Promise To Lust
[ <LUST> is curious about the state of the host’s memories. Does he not know that it doesn’t give anything for free? ]
’Fine. How much for the answer?’
[ <LUST> asks for 500 LP. ]
’...’ Fredrinn stared at the system panel.
In his balance he barely had 205 LP at the moment, and Lust wanted more than double of that.
After knowing about that bastard, he was sure that it wanted something else in reality.
’What do you really want?’
[ <LUST> is impressed that the host realized. Though watching host kiss his girl to collect the LP would’ve been fun as well. ]
Fredrinn stayed silent to Lust’s provocations as he focused on the discussions between the crowd while chatting with Lust in his mind.
Jenny and Andrea also realized it and began listening to the discussions instead.
Though, Andrea still had her arms tucked into his elbow, seemingly reluctant to create any distance and giving Jenny any chance.
[ <LUST> feels that the host is taking too long to get a voluntary thrall. ]
’Well there’s no space to do it here now, is there? Going out in the middle of the night is plain stupid.’
[ <LUST> can understand. If the host promises to get a voluntary thrall later this day, then it is willing to answer the question.
However, failure to fulfil the promise will send host in a great LP debt and also increase the requirement for all quests. ]
’I accept.’ Fredrinn replied in his mind without hesitation.
He already wanted to seal the deal with Andrea whenever they got some free time and a safe place.
Not just for the LP, but also to finally find out what the ’systems’ he can give as well as what effects those would have over other humans.
[ <LUST> reveals that the zombie that the host killed was close to forming a core but not there yet. In host’s terminology, the core can only be found in a stage 4 or above zombie.
However, it is not a guarantee and there may not be any core. ]
Fredrinn’s eyes went cold hearing Lust’s explanation.
Although it wasn’t that difficult, he did struggle slightly against the stage 3 zombie earlier.
And now, he needed to kill AT LEAST 5 stronger zombies than that?
There was no doubt about it...
’I really do need to regain my mana as soon as possible and also unlock some actually useful skills from the shop using my LP... The ones I know can only serve as trump cards considering their mana drain.’
Sure, he could use the weaker spells such as mana bullets.
But considering that those weaker spells would further get debuffed due to the weaker quality of mana on Earth, Fredrinn felt that those were just a waste of energy.
At most, those weaker spells could only serve as distractions to gain an edge over the enemy rather than actual damage...
"Fredrinn, they decided to tie together the unchosens that had betrayed us." Andrea stared up at Fredrinn’s face as she tightened her arms against his hand.
She pressed herself closer, her words chilly and devoid of any goodwill.
"You are against that?" Fredrinn guessed.
"Yes. Obviously. The one who bites once will bite again. Trust broken can’t be rebuilt." She shook her head as she said, "Keeping them near us, even if bound, will be dangerous."
Jenny looked over at their discussion.
She frowned and nodded, "It’s shocking, I know, but somehow I agree with Rhea here."
"Jasmine, I will pull out Fredrinn’s gun and shoot you in the head if you intentionally call out my name wrong again." Andrea quickly retorted, her eyes colder and somehow, after the entire zombie ordeal, she found some confidence returning to herself.
Fredrinn also preferred the snappy and confident Andrea more than the adjusting and more... tamed Andrea.
Jenny, who hadn’t expected Andrea to confront her like that, was surprised. She widened her eyes and for a moment, she felt her ego barricading her retreat.
How can a mere non-awakened young little girl threaten her like that?
Thoughts of cornering Andrea alone in secret came over her mind before Jenny forcefully broke that train of thought.
She didn’t want to forget that she was the one that was acting hostile to Andrea in the first place, and second, she doubted that Fredrinn would appreciate it if she did anything to Andrea behind his back.
And although there were several other guys in the world and some MIGHT be better than the one in front of her, Jenny still didn’t want to cause differences between them.
"It’s Jennifer for you." Jenny replied coldly to Andrea’s threat.
"And mine’s Andrea." Andrea nodded.
Her arms tightened around Fredrinn’s elbow subconsciously as he felt a slight tremor travelling down her body.
Clearly she wasn’t feeling AS strong as she was pretending to be.
Fredrinn smiled inwardly at her act, and just to support his first future voluntary thrall, he removed his hand from her grasp and hugged her by the waist, pulling her closer.
Andrea gasped in surprise, before a smile blossomed on her beautiful face.
She appreciated the gesture more than she showed.
"Well, anyway. As I was saying, I agree with... her. Imagine this scenario, Fredrinn. We are staying in a hotel that has higher floors filled with zombies and we are staying at lower ones. What if those bastards make noise and attract more zombies?
Isn’t that a threat to our safety? Why should we even tolerate that?" Jenny continued, intentionally ignoring the pda that Fredrinn and Andrea were spreading in front of her eyes.
She swears that she never felt as single as she was feeling now.
Fredrinn laughed lightly, "I know what you’re talking about but I cannot understand why you two are asking my thoughts. In my eyes, cutting off the roots is always the best option."
He said it so casually that the two women couldn’t help but feel awkward.
Were they being too humane or is this man simply insane?
It must be the latter... right?
Still, Fredrinn didn’t pay attention to their looks and continued.
"Though, if you really want, I have a better idea..."
