Chapter 44: I Bite When I’m Anxious
Once Fredrinn understood that Lust was intentionally trying to piss him off, he stopped replying to its ragebaits.
Together with Jenny, they began to go around the room, shooting down any remaining zombie in their sights.
Max, Aadav and Jacob had already fought off and killed the unchosens that were responsible for shutting off the lights.
Suddenly, Fredrinn saw a man he thought was dead.
Adrian’s luscious hair had now turned patchy, his mouth tore wide open as the gums and part of his skull was visible.
He was currently staggering towards a beautiful woman. Her purple hair was drenched in blood, and she was trying her hardest to crawl away from Adrian but she wasn’t fast enough.
Her chest heaved at a rapid pace, her pupils dilated and she was screaming at her highest volume, attracting the attention of more zombies.
"MAX! BROTHER MAX, SAVE ME PLEASE!" Christine screamed, kicking Adrian to no avail.
But Max was nowhere near her.
Hearing Christine’s loud screams, he pushed and killed the zombies at a faster pace, but it was clear that he couldn’t reach her in time.
Suddenly as Christine was screaming, she saw a bullet arching through the air and piercing through Adrian’s head. Brain matter and a mixture of gore was splashed onto Christine on the floor, as she saw two humanoid figures walking towards her.
Though she could only hear the footsteps of one. Maybe she was still in shock.
She wiped the gore of her face, her lips shaky and tears flowing non-stop.
Once, twice, thrice... She kept wiping her face with such ferocity that Fredrinn thought she might tear off her skin.
But luckily, she stopped after cleaning all the blood from her gorgeous face, looking up at him with her puffy eyes and tearful face.
"Th-Thank you... Sir... Fredrinn?" She said hesitantly, "Thank you, Jenny..."
The earlier confidence and strength behind her words was gone.
"Chrisitine." Fredrinn nodded, offering his hand to the fallen Christine.
She took it hesitantly.
Fredrinn pulled his hand with a jerk and Christine was pulled alongside, standing to her feet in an instant as she stumbled into his forearm.
She blushed in embarrassment from it and instantly tried to pull back.
But, she was surprised to see that Fredrinn didn’t let go of her hand, instead, his hand was curled on her forearm so tightly that she felt her blood flow might stop.
"Wh-What are you doing– I–" She panicked and began to struggle against him, but obviously, her meager strength couldn’t even make Fredrinn flinch.
"How did you get this injury?" Fredrinn ignored her resistance and asked in a calm, cold tone.
His eyes were focused on a nasty gash at Christine’s forearm. It appeared like a bite mark as teeth marks were clearly visible.
"I– I have a habit of biting myself when I am anxious, okay?" Christine tugged her hand and Fredrinn released his grasp, looking down into her eyes with a flat face.
"We will talk after this is finished."
A gulp of saliva bopped down Christine’s throat as she nervously dipped her head in agreement.
"Good. Take some rest, yes? And I suggest you don’t bite yourself out of anxiety again." Fredrinn placed his larger hand on Christine’s forehead, ruffling her dyed, gorgeous purple hair gently before he turned around and left alongside Jenny.
Jenny, unlike the last time she was with Christine, this time opted not to speak anything as her gaze was still focused on the bite wound that Fredrinn had pointed out.
Once they were a decent distance away, she couldn’t stay silent anymore.
"She was bitten by a zombie, Fredrinn." Jenny looked at him.
"I know." Fredrinn nodded.
"She could turn into a zombie..." She continued.
"Actually, I don’t know what is the process of that and all, Jenny. I heard you become a zombie if you get bitten, but is that really how that works?" Fredrinn said as he shook his head, "If that were true, then why do I see human corpses here alongside the zombies? If humans become zombies, then what are these?"
Fredrinn pointed at a few human corpses on the floor. Some had their limbs ripped out while some had their flesh gouged out.
They all were in disgusting and disturbing positions, but still, Jenny believed that they were lucky to die.
In her eyes, turning into a zombie was a fate worse than death.
However, at his questioning, she remained silent.
"I don’t know, Fredrinn. Apocalypse happened for me at the same time it did for you. Whatever you know is what I know." Jenny took a deep breath, "But, I am just scared. What if she... turns into a zombie...? It’s... a threat."
Fredrinn glanced at her quietly, before he placed his hand on her head as well.
He let the hand slide down her hair and stroked them as Jenny’s breath hitched in response.
She sniffled in her snot and wiped her face with her sleeves.
"Stop treating me like a child. I am a grown woman." Jenny scoffed in a weak voice, slapping Fredrinn’s hand away with her elbow.
"Then let’s discuss Christine after this situation is dealt with, Ms Grown Woman."
Jenny scoffed in response, harrumphing at Fredrinn as she peeled away from him and focused on a zombie that was lunging and ramming himself into the shelves like a retard.
On top of shelves, two humans were hiding, probably the unchosens as they shivered and trembled.
They tried to stay silent, but everytime the zombie rammed himself into the shelf, they couldn’t help but let out a scared scream.
Jenny steadied herself and began to shoot down the zombie from a distance.
One after the other, all awakened and the people with guns worked together to eliminate all the zombies alive inside the group while Charlie held down the gate and prevented any more zombies from entering.
Once the situation had calmed down slightly... Jacob decided to do a headcount.
To see how many survivors were left...
And how many were infected.
