Chapter 448: You’re Not Welcome Here (Part 1)
After Father Meng left the Qin residence, the Qin family continued their discussion.
"What are your thoughts on this situation with Meng Chengyu?"
Qin Chongming, the Head of the Qin family, asked his eldest son, Qin Hao.
"Someone must have orchestrated this. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have come on so strong."
"And who do you think that might be?"
"For them to move directly against the Meng Family, they’re either completely reckless or they have powerful backing. It’s no secret that the Meng Family is under the protection of our Qin family, so it can’t be the former. This means they have support, and they’re not afraid of offending us. That narrows the list of suspects considerably."
Qin Chongming nodded, agreeing with Qin Hao’s analysis.
"So, which family do you think it is?"
"The Head of the Gu family has long stayed out of external affairs, and Gu Hengzhi was just transferred back, so he wouldn’t have had time for this. The Chu Family, on the other hand, is a strong possibility. I hear they recently took in an adopted son."
"Hmph. One Chu Yunze is ruined, and now they plan to prop up another adopted son? We’ll see if the Qin family allows it!"
"Father, how about I make a move on him?"
"No. Now that the Chu Family has taken him in, all eyes will be on him for a while. If we make a rash move, we’ll certainly anger them. It’s not the right time for an open conflict with the Chu Family."
"You’re right, Father. I understand."
"However, even if we don’t make a move on him directly, we can still issue a warning. I hear that adopted son’s wife came with him."
"You mean... I understand. I’ll make the arrangements."
*
Shen Nian was completely unaware that the Qin family had set their sights on her. Of course, if she had known, she would have scorned them for it.
’Hmph. They don’t dare to go after the Chu Family, so they decide to pick on a defenseless woman like me instead. How shameless!’
As for Lu Cheng, after releasing all the evidence he had, there was nothing more for him to do. All that was left was to wait and see how the higher-ups would deal with Meng Chengyu.
And given the damning evidence Lu Cheng had released, Meng Chengyu’s punishment would be anything but light.
Even with the Qin family’s backing, Meng Chengyu was doomed this time.
All Shen Nian needed to know was that Meng Chengyu was finished. She wasn’t interested in the specifics of his fate.
What she *was* interested in was that Lu Cheng seemed to have suddenly freed up his schedule. Outside of his daily work at the corporation, the rest of his time was all hers—just like when she had first arrived.
For instance, after they had dinner at home, Lu Cheng actually had time to take a leisurely stroll with Shen Nian around the residential compound to walk off their meal.
Although they inevitably attracted a lot of attention wherever they went, Shen Nian still cherished the simple joy of having Lu Cheng with her.
’As for whether they were making all the single people jealous, well, so be it. Better them than us!’
But then, there was Meng Sijia, who suddenly ran up to them, almost throwing herself at Lu Cheng, and bursting into tears to plead with him the moment she saw him.
Shen Nian’s face was a picture of displeasure.
It wasn’t that she was worried about Lu Cheng’s fidelity—Shen Nian was long past worrying about that! She was purely and simply furious that Meng Sijia had ruined their perfect, romantic walk.
’I’m not happy! I’m so not happy!’
’Just as I thought. Not a single person from the Meng Family is any good.’
