Chapter 435: Shouldn’t Be Used as a Pawn
Gu Shuxin hadn’t expected Shen Nian to be so perceptive. The moment Shen Nian turned her head, she ducked out of sight in a panic.
Shen Nian looked in that direction but saw no one, so she turned back to Chu Yunze with a smile and shook her head.
"It’s nothing."
’I thought I felt an unfriendly gaze on me just now, but when I looked, there was no one there. Maybe I was just imagining things. After all, this place is very safe.’
"Then let’s go!"
"Okay."
Shen Nian nodded and started to leave with Chu Yunze. As she glanced back one more time, she saw the faint silhouette of a woman standing around the corner she had just checked.
’Looks like I wasn’t mistaken after all. That hostile stare must have come from her.’
’Someone unfriendly toward me, right here at the Chu residence... In my mind, only one person fits that description.’
’Is she here to see Chu Lingxiu? It probably won’t be easy to get a meeting! After all, I’ve been here all day and haven’t seen Chu Lingxiu, who’s still grounded.’

"Ah, that’s Shuxin. She’s probably here to see Lingxiu. But Lingxiu is still grounded for a few days, so I doubt she’ll be able to meet with her."
Chu Yunze didn’t really know Gu Shuxin well; he only knew that she was a good friend of Chu Lingxiu’s.
"Shuxin?"
’I’ve never heard that name before.’ Shen Nian silently committed the name to memory. ’She’s a love rival, after all. Maybe I can pry some information out of Lu Cheng when I get back!’
’Then again,’ Shen Nian suddenly thought, remembering what happened with the young miss of the Meng Family, ’Lu Cheng will probably just hit me with another, "Who’s Shuxin?"’
The thought of that scene made Shen Nian laugh out loud.
"What’s so funny? Do you know her?"
"I don’t. I just thought of something funny."
"Something funny? Come on, let me in on it!"
Seeing Shen Nian’s smile, Chu Yunze had a gut feeling it had something to do with his good friend.
Gossip about his friend was a rare commodity, so now that he’d stumbled across some, Chu Yunze wasn’t about to let the opportunity slip by.
"Instead of trying to hear a funny story, Brother Yunze, I think you should pay more attention to that ’good friend’ of Lingxiu’s."
Now that she knew who was pulling the strings, Shen Nian wasn’t about to play dumb. That would be truly foolish.
It was true that Chu Lingxiu’s past actions had been disappointing, but she was a member of the Chu Family, after all. And it was very likely that she had been deceived and manipulated.
If she could help, Shen Nian wouldn’t hesitate.

Chu Yunze didn’t think for a second that Shen Nian was joking. He immediately took her words seriously.
"I don’t know her, but the young lady of the Chu Family shouldn’t be used as someone else’s pawn, don’t you think?"
