Chapter 326: You Think He’s Like Those Useless Opponents?
Even though they were all employees of the same corporation, and the Meng Family was already working on getting Meng Chengyu transferred to headquarters, he still wasn’t an employee there yet.
Since he was an employee at a branch office, he was expected to follow its work regulations. And quite obviously, he had no business being here right now.
He was able to be here partly because he was Meng Sijia’s younger brother, and partly because of the Meng Family’s connections, which is why people turned a blind eye to his presence.
But if anyone were to actually investigate, Meng Chengyu’s actions could even be considered dereliction of duty and an unexcused absence.
Of course, if he had followed corporate procedure and properly requested time off to come here, it would have been fine.
But Meng Chengyu found the corporation’s leave-request process too much of a hassle, so he had just snuck over.
If no one looked into it, it would be fine. But if someone did, he would have to face the consequences, even with the Meng Family backing him.
That’s why Meng Chengyu’s face instantly darkened upon hearing Lu Cheng’s words.
Part of it was worry that his job might be in jeopardy. The other part was fury at Lu Cheng for so flagrantly disrespecting him!
’He’s just some country bumpkin who crawled out of the countryside and achieved a little something. Compared to our Meng Family, he’s nothing!’
’So what if he’s a group leader? Outside of this corporation, he’s a nobody. I have the Meng Family behind me, but Lu Cheng has nothing!’
"I’m warning you, you’d better watch what you say!"
Meng Chengyu was long accustomed to threatening people with the Meng Family’s power, and he fell back on his usual tactics now that he was facing Lu Cheng.
"Watch myself? I’m afraid the one who should be careful is you! After all, I’m not the one who’s broken any rules."

Meng Chengyu pointed a finger at Lu Cheng, his face contorted with anger. Just as he was about to spit out another threat, Meng Sijia grabbed his arm.
"Chengyu, shut up!"
"Sis?"
"I said, shut up!"
After silencing Meng Chengyu, Meng Sijia turned to Lu Cheng.
"Mr. Lu, this business with my brother is our fault. Please, for my sake, let’s not let things get ugly."
"Sis?"
Meng Chengyu’s face was a mask of disbelief. ’How could his sister beg Lu Cheng? How could she! They were the Meng Family! Lu Cheng was just a measly group leader, what was there to be afraid of!’
’At worst, he could just go home and tell the family. Getting rid of a group leader would be a piece of cake!’
"Now, shut your mouth and come with me!"
With that, Meng Sijia didn’t wait for Lu Cheng’s response. She just grabbed Meng Chengyu and pulled him away.
Lu Cheng’s words had been a wake-up call for her. If no one brought it up, no one would question whether Meng Chengyu’s presence was against the rules.
But now that it had been brought up, they had no choice but to be careful.
After all, even though the Meng Family had some influence and was backed by a powerful clan, both the Mengs and their patrons had rivals.
If someone got ahold of this incident to use against them, it wouldn’t just be Meng Chengyu’s job at risk; their family’s reputation would take a hit too.
This was why Meng Sijia had temporarily set aside her personal grudge with Lu Cheng and Shen Nian to prioritize getting Meng Chengyu out of there.
"Sis? Sis, why are you doing this? Sis, let go of me!"
Meng Sijia dragged Meng Chengyu all the way out of the corporation building. It wasn’t until they were outside the main gates that Meng Chengyu finally broke free from her grip.
"Chengyu, you’re a grown man. When are you finally going to grow up!"
"Sis, what do you mean I’m not grown up! That Lu Cheng was clearly provoking me on purpose! We’re the Meng Family! Who does he think he is, threatening me?! At worst, I’ll just go back and have Dad and the others teach him a lesson!"
