Chapter 302: Tell Me, What Happened
Listening to the sound of water from the bathroom, Shen Nian finally felt like this place was truly her home.
Although Shen Nian had already eaten, she figured that since Lu Cheng had rushed over to see her as soon as he got back, he probably hadn’t had dinner yet.
It wasn’t a good time to go out to eat. And while she hadn’t cooked here before, thankfully, she had stocked the kitchen fairly well.
She couldn’t make a full meal without meat and vegetables, but she could at least make Lu Cheng a bowl of noodles.
So when Lu Cheng came out of the bathroom after his shower, the first thing he saw was Shen Nian walking out of the kitchen with a freshly made bowl of noodles.
Shen Nian saw him too. After setting the bowl on the table, she went over and pulled him down into a chair.
"You haven’t eaten, have you? I haven’t gone grocery shopping yet, so I could only make you a bowl of noodles. It’ll tide you over for now."
"It’s fine, this is great! I’m sure any noodles you make are delicious."
When Lu Cheng was on a job, he could go a whole day without eating or drinking. But smelling the fragrant aroma of the noodles Shen Nian had made for him, he realized he was actually starving.
"Well, eat up!"
"Mhm."
Shen Nian sat beside him, watching him eat. Suddenly, she thought of something and smiled.
"The family farm is up and running now. And I’ve already sorted out all the initial costs, so I didn’t even have to use the money you left for me. Aren’t I impressive?"
Shen Nian had been waiting for the chance to tell Lu Cheng everything she’d been up to, and now she finally had it.
"Mhm, very impressive!"
Lu Cheng listened to Shen Nian while he ate the noodles she’d made him. He even made sure to respond during his breaks from eating.
Lu Cheng had always known Shen Nian was different from other women. She would never be content to just rely on a man to get by; she had her own ideas and plenty of her own abilities.
That’s why Lu Cheng had never even considered holding her back. In fact, he was more than happy to watch her spread her wings and soar.
His only role was to ensure that while she soared, he would always be right behind her, acting as her staunchest supporter.
"I also invested in a clothing factory. Xinyue introduced me to it. She has a real talent for fashion design. I think she could have a future as a designer."
"I also have an honorary grandfather now! It’s the old man we saved on the train. I never expected to run into his family when I went to the provincial capital. Next time we go home, I’ll take you to visit him."
"And I also..."
Shen Nian tirelessly recounted everything she had experienced since they’d been apart, not feeling the least bit tired.
As for Lu Cheng, he had long since finished his noodles. He simply sat beside her, watching her and listening to her stories, not feeling bored in the slightest.
He even cracked a small smile when he heard how she had outsmarted some difficult people.
’It would have been great if I could have been there with her through all of this. But just listening to her tell me all about it now... this feels pretty good, too.’
"Uh, am I boring you, talking so much?"
Snapping out of it, Shen Nian realized she had been talking for a very long time.
"Never. As long as it’s you, I could listen forever and never get bored."
"You’re just trying to sweet-talk me!"
Shen Nian pouted, but the smile on her face gave her away. It was clear she was delighted by his words.
"I’m not sweet-talking you. I’m telling you the truth. Xiao Nian, thank you."
"Thank me for what?"
"Thank you for everything you’ve considered for my family, and thank you for everything you’ve done for me."
"You’re so silly. Your family is my family! As long as they’re all doing well, we can rest easy."
"Mhm, you’re right."
’His family was her family, and her family was his. The two of them were one and the same.’
"You’re done? I’ll go clean up."
As Shen Nian spoke, she started to get up to clear the bowl and chopsticks from the table, but Lu Cheng gently pushed her back down into her seat.
"Don’t worry about that yet. First, tell me what happened today."
