Chapter 280: A Secret Investigation
Chen Qingdi watched the two of them bicker, a trace of warmth blooming in his heart. Although the men had wildly different personalities, each had his own strengths. That was why he had always kept them by his side.
"Alright, that's enough arguing," Chen Qingdi interrupted. "I think Miao Lang is right. We can't act rashly. Besides, we have no proof that Wu Tian is the mastermind behind the assassins."
"But we can investigate him secretly," Chen Yuan suggested.
"I've thought of that," Chen Qingdi said with a frown. "But right now, our top priority is to handle the Mingyue Group's affairs."
"By the way, Cyan Emperor," Miao Lang suddenly asked, "did you find any clues when you went back this time?"
Chen Qingdi shook his head. "No. But I feel like Master's final words must have some deeper meaning."
"Final words?" Dong Kui asked curiously.
Chen Qingdi nodded. "Yes. Before he passed away, Master told me to safeguard an ancient book. He also said that if anyone asked about it, I should tell them to find the 'Living Immortal'."
"Living Immortal?" Chen Yuan, Dong Kui, and Miao Lang were all stunned.
Chen Qingdi nodded. "I don't know what it means either. But I feel there must be some secret here."
"I think we should first find this 'Living Immortal'. Perhaps he can help us uncover this secret," Miao Lang suggested.
"But how are we supposed to find him?" Dong Kui asked, puzzled.
"We can ask Wu Tian," Chen Yuan said coldly. "If he refuses to tell us, we'll just get rid of him."
"No!" Miao Lang quickly retorted. "We can't act recklessly. More importantly, we can't make a huge mistake on a momentary impulse."
Watching them argue endlessly, Chen Qingdi couldn't help but feel a sense of gratification. Though they had different personalities, they could unite as one at a critical moment like this, which pleased him greatly.
"Alright, stop arguing," Chen Qingdi cut in. "I think Miao Lang is right. We can't act rashly, and we still have no evidence that Wu Tian is the mastermind behind the assassins. So, we need to investigate and find out the truth before we make a decision."
"But how are we supposed to investigate?" Dong Kui asked, puzzled.
"We can look for clues among Master's belongings," Chen Qingdi said in a low voice. "Perhaps we can find the answer in that ancient book."
"Mingyue, did you know? There's a saying: 'Bad news travels fast.'" Chen Qingdi gave a bitter smile, leaning back on his hands at the edge of the bed as he looked at his wife. "Before you returned from Medical God Island, something like that happened to me."
Shen Mingyue's brow furrowed. "You're talking about... the assassination attempt?"
Chen Qingdi nodded. "Yes. I was out with some friends when we ran into those thugs. I wasn't hurt, but seeing innocent people get injured because of me... I feel really guilty about it."
A flash of heartache crossed Shen Mingyue's eyes. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Do you have any idea how worried I was?"
"I didn't want to worry you," Chen Qingdi said with a small smile. "Besides, I didn't think it was a big deal. Those thugs were only after me. My friends were all unharmed."
"Then why are you telling me now?" Shen Mingyue asked.
"Because I don't want you to worry about me anymore," Chen Qingdi took a deep breath. "And... I also want you to know that I'm not as strong as you imagine. I have times when I'm tired, times when I need you to comfort me."
Warmth spread through Shen Mingyue's heart. "I understand, Cyan Emperor. I'll always be by your side to support you and be with you."
"Thank you, Mingyue," Chen Qingdi smiled. "You know? I've always felt so lucky to have met a wife like you. You're always by my side when I need you most."
Shen Mingyue smiled. "We're husband and wife. Why say things like that?"
"Yeah, husband and wife," Chen Qingdi said with a faint smile. "So, I hope we can always be together, no matter what happens."
Shen Mingyue nodded firmly. "We will. We'll always be together."
The next morning, Shen Mingyue personally drove Chen Qingdi to the entrance of his company.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Shen Mingyue asked again, just before Chen Qingdi got out of the car.
"I'm really fine," Chen Qingdi smiled. "I'll be careful."
Shen Mingyue hesitated for a moment. "If you feel unwell at all, you have to tell me. I'll go buy you some medicine at noon."
"Okay," Chen Qingdi nodded, then got out of the car and walked toward the company's main entrance.
Watching Chen Qingdi's back disappear into the crowd, Shen Mingyue's heart was a tangle of emotions. She was very worried about her husband, but she also knew her worrying wouldn't change anything.
All she could do was silently pray that Chen Qingdi would get through each day safely.
Back at home, Shen Mingyue started preparing lunch. She knew what kind of dishes Chen Qingdi liked, so she busied herself with the task.
In the kitchen, she chopped vegetables while thinking about her earlier conversation with Chen Qingdi. She felt very fortunate to have a husband who cared for her so much.
Although they had their share of small conflicts and misunderstandings, they still loved and cared for each other deeply. In this bustling city, they had traveled a long road, relying on one another.
Chen Qingdi and Shen Mingyue were sitting on the sofa, the atmosphere warm and romantic. Their conversation gradually deepened, and their eyes filled with mutual anticipation.
"Mingyue, what do you think?" Chen Qingdi asked, a little nervously.
Shen Mingyue lowered her head with a small smile. Instead of answering directly, she placed her hand on Chen Qingdi's.
"As long as you are willing, I have no demands." Hearing Shen Mingyue's response, Chen Qingdi's heart thrilled with excitement.
Just as the two were about to take things further, the sound of footsteps suddenly echoed from behind them. They turned their heads and saw Yao Shufen standing there, a grim look on her face as she watched them.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Shen Mingyue asked, somewhat surprised.
Yao Shufen didn't answer. Instead, she turned her gaze to Chen Qingdi and said, "I don't care if you're the assistant, Yang Yang, or the real Chen Qingdi. You are not the right man for our Mingyue."
Chen Qingdi's expression darkened, and he said with some displeasure, "Ma'am, what do you mean by that?"
"Don't call me 'Ma'am,' I don't know you," Yao Shufen said bluntly. "Our Mingyue is not a woman you can just play with."
