Chapter 217: The Clash of Two Women
A frantic phone call shattered the silence.
The inspector, Zhang, immediately reported back.
"Yang Shuhua has disobeyed orders and gone after the female suspect alone! Her phone is off now, and we can’t reach her at all!"
Chen Qingdi was taken aback. ’He didn’t think Yang Shuhua could possibly defeat Ye Shiqi.’
"To avoid any casualties, activate satellite surveillance. I need to find Ye Shiqi’s location!"
After her image was fed into the system, the satellite produced a photo a short time later. It revealed she hadn’t gone far; she was in an abandoned residential complex in Jinghai City, with Yang Shuhua quietly trailing behind her.
"What a troublesome pair."
Chen Qingdi shook his head helplessly.
One was Mrs. Wen’s long-lost daughter, and the other was Duke Wu’s investigator. If they fought, one was bound to get hurt. He would feel guilty regardless of who was injured.
He urgently made his request: "Get me a helicopter. I need to get to that abandoned complex and stop this!"
The moment Ye Shiqi left Chen Qingdi’s house, she felt someone’s eyes on her. She didn’t turn to look, instead using the reflection in a small mirror she held. It was enough to see the face of the person tailing her.
Without showing any sign, she led the other person to a secluded location: a residential complex slated for demolition.
Most of the buildings had been torn down, though a few still stood for some unknown reason. They were, however, long since abandoned.
Ye Shiqi rounded a corner and appeared to slip into one of the buildings. Yang Shuhua, following close behind, quickly chased after her.
She instantly bolted up the stairs. Sensing movement from an empty room, she kicked the door open with tremendous force and immediately dodged to the side of the wall. When no attack came, she charged in. A quick scan of the room revealed no enemy, and she spun back around.
All her movements were incredibly swift and agile, a clear sign of her considerable skill.
She didn’t find the enemy behind her. But just as she let out a sigh of relief, a person dropped down from the ceiling above, a dagger in their hand plunging straight for her scalp.
Yang Shuhua immediately dropped and rolled, narrowly dodging the fatal blow.
She saw a female figure flip down from the ceiling, holding a silk scarf.
In her peripheral vision, she saw that one end of the scarf was tied to the spot on the ceiling where a chandelier had once hung.
A sneer touched her lips. "Just as expected of an infamous assassin. Cunning, indeed."
Ye Shiqi snorted. "I have no quarrel with you. Why do you keep following me?"
"You’re a suspect in a major homicide, and you seduced a local tycoon, engaging in that sort of shameful business. I have to bring you to justice!"
Ye Shiqi lifted the dagger and blew on the blade, clearing it of dust.
"I’ll admit to the homicide. I killed him. If you want to arrest me, then bring it on. Someone with your flashy, useless moves? I could take on three of you."
Yang Shuhua kept her gun trained on Ye Shiqi.
"No matter how fast you are, you can’t be faster than a bullet. I suggest you surrender now, or I won’t be so courteous!"
Seemingly unconcerned, Ye Shiqi tossed her dagger to the ground and raised her hands.
"Hands behind your head! Turn around and squat!"
Ye Shiqi obediently placed her hands on her head and slowly squatted down.
Seeing how cooperative she was, Yang Shuhua smiled contemptuously. She was just reaching for her handcuffs when two cold glints suddenly shot out from Ye Shiqi’s hair.
’Not good! She has Hidden Weapons in her hair!’
Yang Shuhua was exactly right. This infamous assassin’s ranking on the dark boards wasn’t just due to her strength; she also possessed a brilliant mind.
She had actually hidden a thin tube for firing poison needles in her hair. The moment Yang Shuhua ordered her to put her hands on her head, she triggered the mechanism, sending several Flying Needles shooting out.
Caught completely off guard, Yang Shuhua was struck in her gun hand by a Flying Needle. She immediately felt her hand go numb, her grip failed, and the gun clattered to the floor.
"My gun may have dropped, Ye, but if you dare pick it up and shoot me, you’re a dead woman!"
But Ye Shiqi wasn’t stupid. She knew that while killing Yang Shuhua or even just grabbing the gun would be easy, doing so would change the nature of the situation entirely. So she ignored the pistol on the floor, walked over to Yang Shuhua, and crouched down in front of her.
She quickly took out a pill and stuffed it into Yang Shuhua’s mouth.
"My needles are coated in a potent poison. Without this antidote, you’d be dead in three hours. You’ve taken the antidote now, but you’ll be in agony for an hour before the poison is fully neutralized."
As the numbness in her body began to fade slightly, Yang Shuhua let out a cold laugh.
"At least you had the sense not to pick up the gun."
Ye Shiqi snorted. "If I were brainless, I wouldn’t have survived this long."
A triumphant smile then spread across her face.
"I don’t want to make an enemy of you, and I don’t want to kill you. I only used my Hidden Weapons in self-defense. And while that pill will completely neutralize the poison, I’m afraid you’re in for a world of hurt for the next hour."
Yang Shuhua suddenly found the feeling returning to her numb hand. She could flex her fingers. She balled her hand into a fist and threw a vicious punch at Ye Shiqi.
But as she swung, she realized her arm felt like it was made of cotton, completely devoid of strength.
Ye Shiqi didn’t even bother to dodge. The punch landed with all the force of someone scratching an itch.
"You may have feeling back in your arm, but your strength is nowhere near its peak. It’s best if you don’t try anything violent right now."
She still didn’t touch the gun. Instead, she said to Yang Shuhua,
"I’m a terrible coward. Why don’t you pick up your gun, unload it, and put the safety on. Then we can talk."
While Yang Shuhua did as she was told, Ye Shiqi didn’t attack. She just scanned her surroundings warily, as if afraid of a sneak attack from someone else.
When she saw Yang Shuhua holster the secured weapon and then face her calmly, Ye Shiqi couldn’t help but feel a sliver of admiration.
"I’ve roamed the world for years and met all kinds of people, martial artists and not. But I’ve met very, very few who are as clever as you when facing death. If we weren’t on opposite sides, I’d honestly want to become sworn sisters with you."
Yang Shuhua snorted.
"A killer like you thinks you’re worthy of being my sister?"
Ye Shiqi dropped the subject and let out a cold laugh.
"I’m the one who killed that pervert of a bar owner! He’d already harmed several of my sisters, and then he tried to come after me. I was doing a public service by getting rid of a pest!"
Yang Shuhua didn’t buy it. "Regardless of your motive, you can’t just kill someone in the street. You could have reported him to the authorities!"
Ye Shiqi didn’t want to argue about it. She continued,
"The reason I led you here today was to tell you one thing: You can investigate me, you can make my life difficult. But if I ever see you harassing Chen Qingdi’s family at his home again... the next time I poison you, there won’t be an antidote."
