Transmigrated into a Novel as the Female Lead’s Ex-Husband

Chapter 37 – The Domain’s Prototype

She expanded the floating image again, this time removing the pale blue matrix of Ice entirely, leaving only the silver and violet structure. It was incomplete — a scaffold without walls, a skeleton without flesh — but it held.

The sight of it sent a strange chill through Luke. Incompleteness should have looked weak. Instead, this looked dangerous in a more focused way, like a blade that had not yet been fitted with a hilt. Bare structure. Bare law. Bare possibility.

"A prototype Domain. Made only of Time and Space. It will not be stable enough to project externally, and it will not provide the full benefits of a complete Domain."

"But it will be a container. A seed. Inside it, you will be able to store power, accelerate your training, and, most importantly, find the third treasure when you eventually find it. The moment the treasure is integrated, the prototype will blossom into a true Domain."

Luke nodded slowly. "What do we need to build this prototype?"

"More than we currently possess," Petra admitted.

"The Abyssal Pearls and Drake-bone dust you acquired from the warehouse will suffice for your foundation reconstruction — barely. But the Domain prototype requires additional materials. Specifically, I will need Void Essence — a substance that forms only in places where Space has been torn and imperfectly healed — and Chronos Shards, crystalline fragments of condensed temporal energy. "

"Both are rare, but not impossible to find. Your corporation has access to black-market channels. Your team has a capable intelligence specialist. Between them, you should be able to locate what we need."

"Void Essence and Chronos Shards," Luke repeated, committing them to memory. "Any other impossible-to-find ingredients?"

"Not for the prototype. The full Domain will require the third treasure, as I said, but that is a problem for later." Petra dismissed the image and folded her hands in her lap.

"For now, the plan is this: we will proceed with the foundation reconstruction in three stages, as discussed. "

"Simultaneously, you will train. Precision work. Micro-frost manipulation. Targeted Freeze. Spatial reading. I want you to become so efficient in the basic abilities that you can fight at full effectiveness while using half the Soul Power. This will not only keep you alive during the reconstruction period; it will prepare you for the Domain's demands. "

"A Domain consumes enormous energy. If your foundation is weak or your control is sloppy, it will drain you dry in seconds."

That, at least, sounded familiar.

Training until his limits were pushed. Training until the waste disappeared.

Training until what was once impossible became merely difficult.

Luke could work with that. Grand cosmic structures were one thing. Repetition and discipline were another.

"And my Soul Power total? Ninety-two isn't going to cut it."

"No. It is not." Petra's expression grew serious.

"Your Soul Power is the raw fuel for everything you do. The foundation reconstruction will increase it somewhat — I expect you will reach approximately 150 by the time Stage Three is complete. But that is still far too low. To sustain a Domain, even a prototype, you will need at least 300. To wield a full Domain in combat, closer to 500."

Luke ran the numbers in his head. "That's years of natural accumulation."

"Years, if you rely on natural accumulation, yes. But Soul Power can be cultivated. There are methods — ancient methods — that accelerate the process without damaging your potential. You have already seen the cost of crude shortcuts," she added pointedly, likely referring to Rowan's false second awakening.

"The methods I will teach you are the opposite of crude. They are subtle. Gradual. And they require you to place yourself in environments of extreme elemental or conceptual pressure, where your soul must strain against an opposing force. The strain, carefully managed, stimulates growth. It is the difference between weightlifting with proper form and throwing yourself off a cliff to see if you bounce."

Luke almost smiled. "So I need to find a way to put myself under heavy, constant pressure without getting killed."

"Precisely. The Deep Sea waves inside this ring are one such pressure source, as you have already discovered. There will be others. Places of power where the boundary between the world and the Trial's influence is thin. I will teach you to sense them."

Petra rose, gesturing for Luke to stand as well. "The path ahead is long, apprentice. Foundation reconstruction, precision training, Soul Power cultivation, material acquisition, prototype Domain construction, and eventually the integration of the unknown treasure."

"It will take months. Perhaps more. And throughout it all, you must maintain your facade as a loyal corporate operative, lead your team, protect your family, and avoid being killed by the Cult, the Bureau, or any of the other factions circling your life."

Luke stood with her. The cold from the stone floor had seeped into his legs, but the stiffness gave way quickly. Above them, the statues loomed in silence, their ancient faces unreadable.

He wondered how many vows had been made in places like this—how many apprentices had promised endurance, loyalty, power, survival. How many had understood the price?

She met his eyes, her ancient gaze unblinking. "Do you still wish to walk this road?"

Luke held her stare.

For a moment, his mind flickered outward beyond the hall. The fluorescent hum of corporate corridors. His team is sorting through the fallout of the warehouse mission. The Bureau’s careful smiles. His family was unaware of how close the edges were drawing. The Cult is moving somewhere in the dark. All of it pressed against this moment, invisible but real.

He paused. "I don't have a choice, Master. But even if I did, I'd choose this. Every time."

Petra studied him for a long moment. Then she nodded, once, with the finality of a seal being set.

"Then we begin. Tomorrow is the first stage of your foundation reconstruction. And tonight, your first lesson in temporal precision. I want you to freeze a single snowflake outside your window — not the air around it, not the windowsill, not the moisture on the glass. One flake. For exactly one-tenth of a second. After that, we will discuss the locations of the nearest Void Essence deposits."

She raised an eyebrow. "I trust you have no other plans for the evening?"

Luke allowed a small, grim smile. "Nothing that can't wait."

"Good. Then let us begin the long work."

The words settled into the hall like a bell tone.

No thunder followed. No surge of light. No dramatic sign from the ring or the statues or the old runes sleeping in the stone. The beginning of long roads rarely announced itself that way. Most of the time, they began with exhaustion, with acceptance, with a single impossible instruction delivered in a calm voice.

Freeze one snowflake.

Hold it for one-tenth of a second.

Then keep walking.

Luke drew in a breath that tasted faintly of frost and ancient dust, and let it out slowly. Tomorrow would mark the beginning of his foundation's reconstruction.

Tonight would begin the sharpening of his control.

After that would come the materials, the pressure, the prototype, the hunt for the unknown treasure, and everything else Petra had laid before him.

Months, perhaps more.

He believed her.

And despite everything, despite the danger layered into every step of the path ahead, there was something almost clean in that certainty.

The chaos of the outside world had not lessened. The enemies circling his life had not vanished. But here, inside the silent stone hall, the next step was clear.

That was enough.

For tonight, that was enough.
