Marvel: Sign-In System – Starting with the Glint-Glint Fruit

Chapter 226: We Were Led by the Nose, Dear [BONUS CHAPTER]

Gwen shoved Carrie down onto the bed and stood over her, arms crossed, staring down at the girl, who shrank back looking sheepish and guilty. Gwen said nothing, her eyes fixed unblinking on her friend.

After a long stretch of silence, Carrie cautiously lifted her head to sneak a peek—only to find herself staring straight into a face that clearly said I am very angry. Carrie panicked at once. She scrambled up and threw her arms around Gwen, ignoring her struggles, dragging her down onto the bed with her.

Gwen didn't bother holding back either—putting on her fiercest expression, shrieking as she "tore into" Carrie, trying to pin her down with both hands, even sliding a hand under her sweater to tickle her mercilessly.

Feeling Gwen's ice-cold fingers, Carrie shrieked and fought back immediately.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Helen, washing dishes, heard the commotion and shook her head with a fond, doting smile.

After a long tussle, the war between the two girls finally came to an end. They lay side by side on the bed, both out of breath, their bangs damp with sweat and plastered flat against their foreheads.

"O-okay. So… do you have any explanation? Hm?" Gwen demanded, still catching her breath.

She had lost sleep over this for an entire night.

She had been sad about Carrie leaving.

But this little girl was something else. By noon the next day, she had appeared at Gwen's house right on time. All of Gwen's emotions had been wasted.

Her feelings had been severely wounded.

"S-so please tell me this isn't some kind of joke."

"No. I really did plan to leave, but Matthew said I should finish graduating from Midtown High first," Carrie said, feeling wronged too.

She had truly not lied to Gwen.

She had really prepared to leave.

But unfortunately, after returning to the villa last night, she had seen Matthew and told him her plan.

Matthew had rewarded her with a merciless flick to the forehead.

Then, in a tone that allowed no doubt, he told her she had to finish high school.

All her goodwill and determination had instantly gone down the drain.

Carrie had even argued fiercely with Matthew over it, but after Matthew rewarded her with two more forehead flicks, the girl could only hiss in pain, clutch her forehead, and return to sleep with tears in her eyes.

So the next day, she hurried over to Gwen's house to plead guilty.

After hearing Carrie's explanation, Gwen let out a mocking laugh.

"Please. I thought you were planning to become Matthew's Moneypenny. Turns out it was just wishful thinking."

Moneypenny was the capable female assistant of James Bond, the protagonist of the classic spy film series 007.

Gwen was clearly using the character to mock her good friend.

Carrie obviously understood. After all, over this long period of time, the two girls had often shared movies and television shows they liked, and had even discussed them together.

Being mocked like this by Gwen made her both embarrassed and annoyed.

In the end, too awkward to respond, she simply lay flat, closed her eyes, and spread her arms in a posture that said she would accept any mockery.

"Ha, wow, why has our James Bond girl gone quiet all of a sudden?"

"Mm-hm?"

"Moneypenny?"

Seeing this, Gwen seized the chance to mock her even harder, chattering nonstop. In the end, Carrie finally flew into embarrassed anger, screamed, turned over, and pounced on her with claws bared.

After another round of wrestling, Carrie finally subdued Gwen, who just wouldn't stop teasing her/

Gwen was sensible enough. Seeing that she was about to be finished, she immediately changed her expression, softened her tone, and knelt at the speed of light. "Wow, my dear Miss Carrie, I was wrong. We're good sisters, right?"

"What happened just now was my fault, but you have to understand me too. I lost sleep for an entire night yesterday."

"Just thinking about losing my dearest sister had me crying my eyes dry. You wouldn't really keep bullying me after that, would you?"

Hearing Gwen's pleas for mercy, along with her shameless attempts to play the sisterhood card, Carrie finally relented.

She let go of Gwen, then sat on the bed with a gloomy, wounded expression, saying nothing.

Seeing this, Gwen hugged the silly girl at once and rested her little head on Carrie's shoulder. She whispered beside her ear, "You're disappointed?"

"Mm. I really wanted to help him."

Carrie truly felt a little wronged.

Matthew was the person she considered closest to her, but his firm rejection had made her feel as if she was not needed.

That feeling struck Carrie hard, especially when she was already so fragile.

"Hey, don't think that way. You love him, and he loves you too. Otherwise, he wouldn't have refused your proposal and insisted you finish high school, right?"

"In his eyes, you're still the girl who needs to be protected."

Gwen understood her and comforted her gently.

"But he isn't that much older than me," Carrie said, sounding even more wronged.

"Uh, that's not something judged by age, is it?"

Gwen was almost dragged off track by her. "Maturity comes from experience. Matthew is very young, but he's as mature as many adults. He saved you from hell, and more than anything, he wants you to live well."

"He wants you to find happiness again. That's very important for a person's growth. Only then will you become whole, won't you?"

Gwen showed a maturity that many people her age did not have.

Including Carrie.

Originally, after being tormented since childhood by a demon-like mother, fed twisted values, and bullied by classmates, Carrie should have become more mature.

But the opposite was true. She was too kind, too withdrawn, too introverted. Her mother had forcibly pressed her into a tiny, closed-off space.

Because of that, Carrie did not even understand the unique knowledge girls were supposed to know.

Her path of mental growth had broken off midway, making her even more naive.

After hearing Gwen's comfort, Carrie fell silent for a moment. Then the gloom in her eyes vanished, replaced by brightness.

"You're right, Gwen. Thank you."

Carrie regained her energy and hugged Gwen back.

Gwen gently stroked Carrie's little head.

"I'll properly finish high school and graduate. That way, I'll be able to help Matthew."

Carrie quickly became excited again.

Seeing her so full of energy, Gwen could not help rolling her eyes. "Okay, he'll definitely love you even more, dear."

Her tone carried just a hint of half-hearted indulgence

But Carrie did not mind.

A girl's worries were always so easy to forget.

…

"I really do love you, dear."

In a world covered in pure white snow, on the edge of a cliff high in the mountains, heavy snow blanketed everything until the world was nothing but white. Skye stared at Jessica with a hostile expression.

Amid the storm and freezing temperature, the two girls were dressed very simply.

One wore a plain jacket over a T-shirt, while the other wore a green air-force jacket and a white shirt.

If they were ordinary people, they probably would not last half an hour here.

But whether it was Skye or Jessica, their bodies were like furnaces, continuously surging with heat.

"Four places. We've been led around by the nose through four places."

"Tristan da Cunha, North Sentinel Island, Antarctica, and now the Arctic, dear," Skye shouted in dissatisfaction.
