Chapter 147: Skye’s Growth
Boom!
A terrifying roar came from the street below. It was Skye.
Skye wore the red windbreaker combat uniform marked with the Raven Warband emblem. Facing the dense tide of monsters surging down the street ahead, she was so frightened that goosebumps rose all over her body.
So without hesitation, she clenched her fist and smashed it into the ground.
A terrifying shockwave triggered a massive earthquake across several surrounding streets. In an instant, the earth shook and the mountains swayed. Countless buildings collapsed and shattered, and entire sections of the street were lifted into the air.
The ground caved in, opening one bottomless crack after another. Caught completely off guard, the monsters tumbled into the fissures one after another.
Then they were buried beneath the rubble of collapsing buildings, houses, and shattered stone.
Jessica, who had been about to attack, was almost caught up in Skye's sudden outburst. Fortunately, her reaction was very fast. The moment she sensed something was wrong, she immediately flew over, grabbed Skye, and lifted her into the air.
Hovering in midair, Jessica looked down at the collapsed streets below, as well as the monsters falling into the abyss-like cracks and disappearing. Her eyelid could not help twitching.
Then she shouted exasperatedly at her good sister whom she was holding in her hand, "Couldn't you have said something beforehand?"
"You almost fell yourself, fuck."
"Sorry. I panicked just now and couldn't hold back." Skye scratched her hair and apologized guiltily.
Having power did not mean one knew how to fight.
Skye was a complete rookie. She had suddenly gained incredibly destructive powers, then received the super-soldier gene serum, causing her physical abilities to skyrocket.
Although her brain had also been strengthened, and she had sparred with others during training and understood how she was supposed to fight, training and real combat were completely different things.
Just like now. Skye clearly had many other ways to clear out the incoming tide of monsters, yet in her panic, she had used the stupidest method.
Seeing the girl's pitiful and guilty appearance, what else could Jessica say?
She was her sister, so she could only pamper her.
Matthew, watching the battle from a distance, was also amused and could not help laughing.
Sure enough, watching others embarrass themselves really could bring joy.
This was also why he had brought Skye and Jessica out for actual combat.
These two young women were different from the soldiers of the two Warbands. Before joining the Astartes, almost all of them had served in the military, and most had been on the battlefield.
They had rich experience. Even after gaining power beyond ordinary people, they could quickly adapt.
As for the Raven Warband, there was even less need to say anything. Those former Black Widows who had graduated from the Red Room were all iron women who had gone through fire and water.
Jessica was slightly better, but Skye was a pure rookie.
The meaning of actual combat was to make her adapt to battle, to learn calmness, judgment, and thought, instead of panicking in confusion like now.
These things were not something daily training alone could teach.
Fortunately, Skye realized this, and her ability to adapt was strong enough.
After that moment of panic, Skye quickly calmed down.
But now was not the time for her to reflect.
Because Skye's earlier attack had not caused any real damage to that terrifying monster.
Boom!!
Within the collapsed area, amid the rising dust, the monster flew out of thin air and slowly hovered in midair. Its single huge eye stared fixedly at Jessica and Skye.
The other smaller monsters leaped out one after another; it was unknown how they exerted force given their lack of feet.
"We need to work together, Skye." Jessica said immediately after looking down.
"Yeah."
Skye nodded. Once she calmed down, she quickly analyzed the situation and decided how they should cooperate. "I'll handle the small monsters. Use your advantage in the air to harass the big one. Once I'm done with the small ones, I'll come help you."
The method was very simple.
It also suited the situation perfectly, so Jessica agreed without hesitation.
"Throw me down."
Skye gestured toward the ground below. Jessica grinned, grabbed Skye, and hurled her forcefully toward the intact section of street beneath them.
Bang!
Skye immediately plummeted toward the ground like a meteor, whistling through the air, landing right in the center of that group of monsters.
Skye's descent drew the big monster's attention.
Jessica then moved. She suddenly stomped hard on the air beneath her feet.
The explosive recoil force cracked the air around her and blasted out a circular ring of pressure. A sonic boom erupted as Jessica actually used the first recoil step of Moonwalk together with her own flying ability, stacking the acceleration.
As a result, her instantaneous speed reached the speed of sound.
Boom!!
In an instant, she crossed over a thousand meters. Jessica clenched her fist and smashed it down toward the huge monster's head.
But what Jessica never expected was that her fist, carrying more than fifty tons of force, would slam into a yellow energy barrier released by the monster.
The yellow barrier was extremely tough. Even after taking her punch, it did not cave in at all. It only rippled slightly, as if dispersing her strength.
At the same time, the ripples quickly rebounded. The patch of yellow light on the barrier in front of Jessica's fist grew brighter and brighter.
"Damn it!"
Jessica immediately sensed danger and flew backward without hesitation.
Boom!!
Sure enough, an unimaginable surge of terrifying power erupted from the energy barrier, shaking the very air.
At the same time, on Skye's side, her figure fell toward the center of the small-monster tide on the ground. When she was less than ten meters from the surface, Skye grinned, gripped her right fist, and smashed it heavily into the air below.
Rumble!!
Terrifying shockwave energy swept toward the ground as if it had taken physical form.
Under Skye's precise control, the terrifying vibration energy did not destroy the ground. Instead, it swept across the surface in a horizontal layer.
Countless monsters screamed one after another, ultimately unable to withstand the vibrating force before bursting apart.
Green blood, flesh, and gore flew everywhere.
Skye used the recoil to cancel out her falling speed, then slowly landed on the ground covered with blood and corpses.
That one attack had cleared nearly half of them. But the remaining monsters seemed to have no emotion called fear at all, and more surged in from every direction.
"Come on."
At this point, Skye was no longer panicked. Facing the monsters rushing toward her, excitement appeared on her face instead.
She suddenly raised her foot and stomped on the ground.
The force mixed with vibration was released heavily.
Wave-like vibration energy swept outward once again. However, those monsters seemed to possess intelligence as well. The large eyeballs on the tentacles atop their heads began to glow, joining together to form a massive energy barrier that covered Skye.
On the inner wall of the barrier, eye-like patterns visibly appeared one after another.
They shone with piercing light. In an instant, dense yellow beams poured down toward Skye like a rainstorm.
