Chapter 132 132: The World Breaker Being Held in Check
"Oh my God, what happened to you?"
Bouncing along, Skye and Jessica walked into the ward hand-in-hand, only to find Reacher and the others wrapped in bandages on their hospital beds. They couldn't help but stare, dumbfounded.
The moment they woke up, they heard that a major incident had occurred last night.
Commander Reacher had apparently led fifty super soldiers out on some sudden mission.
In the end, more than twenty of them had come back badly injured, including Commander Reacher, Roscoe, and Neagley.
So after the two girls hurried through breakfast, they rushed over.
At first, they had thought it was a joke.
After all, inside the Temple of Eternal Night, Skye and Jessica had personally seen the terrifying power displayed by Neagley and Natasha.
They had punched through a vampire base.
They had slaughtered over a hundred vampires.
And now, fifty super soldiers had gone out on a mission, only for more than twenty of them to return severely wounded?
They truly did not believe it at all.
Who in this world could defeat the soldiers of the Astartes and Raven Warbands? These were the warbands they admired and wanted to join. Well then, had the myth been broken now?
"Okay, girls, are you here to laugh at us?"
Neagley, who was lying on her stomach on the hospital bed and reading a book out of boredom, shot over a dangerous look.
Frightened, Skye and Jessica frantically shook their heads, shaking them so hard they left afterimages.
It was clear they were genuinely scared.
Mainly because Neagley was too unpredictable. She was very entertaining, but her pranks came one after another, making them impossible to handle.
They definitely didn't want to get on Neagley's bad side.
"Sister Neagley, Sister Roscoe, what mission did you carry out last night? Why did it turn out like this?"
The two girls were genuinely curious. They quickly ran to the bedsides, squatted down, and stared at Neagley and Roscoe with their pretty wide eyes.
Their cuteness was hard to resist.
Neagley and Roscoe laughed and each pinched the cheeks of the two girls leaning over their beds.
"Why are you so curious?"
"Come on, we just want to know. Whoever dared offend the two warbands has to be remembered. Once we get stronger, we'll help you take revenge." Skye spoke smoothly, her words sweet as could be.
But Neagley and Roscoe saw through the girl's little thoughts at a glance.
"Heh, then I really have to thank you, my dear little sister."
Neagley suddenly pounced over, grabbing Skye's cheeks with both hands and rubbing them hard until her face was distorted.
"Mmph."
Skye tried to struggle free, but with her little arms and legs, how could she compare to Neagley? All she could do was blink her big eyes and cast a pleading look, trying to move Neagley.
Roscoe was doing the same on her side. Bullying little girls was far too amusing.
The other female soldiers of the Raven Warband watched with great interest.
As for the Astartes soldiers, they were much simpler. They closed their eyes and either thought silently, emptied their minds, or reviewed last night's battle, searching for their own shortcomings.
"You brat. If you want to hear the story, just say you want to hear the story. You even tried to fool me?"
Neagley rubbed Skye's cheeks for a long while before finally withdrawing her hands, clearly satisfied.
Skye rubbed her aching cheeks, her expression turning slightly bitter. That actually hurt.
Sister Neagley really had no sense of restraint when it came to this sort of thing.
Wait… Neagley is a woman too?
Then it was fine.
"All right, stop asking so many questions, you brats. Once you're stronger and join the warbands in the future, you'll get your chance to run into things like this too."
Neagley leaned back against her pillow and picked up an apple from the bedside table out of boredom, then began eating it.
"Fine."
Skye and Jessica were a little disappointed. They had wanted to find out what exactly the others had encountered.
Was it a legendary demon? A ghost? Or some monster from legend?
In the end, they did not get anything out of them, and their cheeks had been thoroughly tormented on top of that. It was a total loss.
Hmph. Calling me a brat now, huh? Once I get stronger, let's see how this brat gets her revenge.
Skye seemed to imagine that wonderful scene and could not help letting out a silly laugh.
Neagley looked at her as if she were a foolish little sister.
"Forget it. We're leaving."
Skye came back to herself and pulled Jessica along, ready to flee, but Neagley lazily called out to stop them. "Don't leave so fast."
"Is there something else, Sister Neagley?"
In her heart, Skye had already recorded Neagley's "crimes" in a little notebook, planning to settle the score when the time was right. On the surface, however, she showed nothing. Instead, she offered a sweet smile.
She looked unbelievably well-behaved.
Neagley and Roscoe suspiciously swept their gazes over the two girls' faces.
They somehow felt that these two brats were thinking something bad.
But they were too lazy to think too much about it. Neagley asked languidly, "I'm talking about you. Your ability is already stable? You can actually run around now?"
Skye had only awakened her ability not long ago.
Logically speaking, should this girl not be staying in the observation room?
How had she suddenly been allowed out?
Neagley was very curious.
"Oh, the supervisor made this for me."
Skye rolled up her sleeves, revealing the two bracelets on her pale wrists.
They were metal bracelets.
They looked perfectly ordinary, but with one glance, Neagley recognized the magical runes carved into the metal surface.
Magical tools, huh? Then that made sense.
After getting her answer, Neagley waved a hand, signaling for the two brats to get lost.
Skye and Jessica, irritated but not daring to protest, slipped away hand in hand.
After leaving the ward, Jessica returned to the dormitory. For now, she had to maintain her condition carefully.
She couldn't train recklessly and risk fatigue, exhaustion, or any damage to her body.
The Technology Department had already conducted a second round of physical examinations on her. They said they needed to adjust the serums based on her genetic code.
The goal was perfect enhancement—one hundred percent compatibility, zero margin for error.
Not a single mistake could be allowed.
Because of that, Jessica was probably the most relaxed person on the entire island.
Aside from eating and sleeping, whenever she got bored, she would go watch the soldiers of the two warbands train and end up staring at them in fascination.
Skye, however, was different.
Even though the magical bracelets stabilized her ability, they only suppressed it—they didn't truly solve the underlying issue.
And that was harmful to her growth. What she needed was release.
Unrestrained release. Only through that process could she continuously adapt to her ability, understand it, and eventually learn to control it.
Because of that, Skye was constantly busy.
And also in a fair amount of pain.
Her small body was simply too fragile. If she pushed her ability even slightly past the limit, the backlash from the vibration energy would begin to damage her.
The key, however, was that even if she was injured, Skye still had to keep using it—keep training.
The core method was to integrate herself into real combat, constantly get injured, constantly recover, and temper both her body and will through that cycle.
Eventually, she would reach a point where she could fully control her ability even without suppressors.
The method was crude.
But undeniably effective.
In any case, as long as she didn't die—and now that the healing serum had been developed—one injection was enough to restore her to full condition.
Skye didn't particularly dislike this arrangement.
It was only a bit of pain. The kind she went through every month was far worse than this. This level of discomfort was completely manageable.
In fact, Skye even enjoyed it a little. Whenever she released her energy, she felt like she could do anything—like she could destroy anything in her path.
It felt… pretty cool.
