Chapter 125 125: Wolverine’s Mask of Pain
For Magneto's sake, they were actually discussing taking students away?\\ It somehow looked like a human trafficker's deal.
The X-Men exchanged looks, not knowing what to say.
At that moment, Wolverine Logan, who had a cigar in his mouth and wore his usual aloof, gloomy expression, suddenly sensed someone looking at him.
He turned and met a pair of complicated eyes.
It was Sabretooth Victor.
The moment he saw Victor's face, Logan's brows locked tight, and fragments of old memories surged into his mind.
Those memories were scattered and incomplete.
It made Logan unable to stop the painful expression that settled over his face.
Yes, Logan had lost many memories. He had forgotten his past, forgotten his origins, forgotten where he came from.
He was a man without a past.
He was also a man lost in his search for his memories.
Joining the X-Men had only been an accident. Logan only knew one thing: the person who had caused him to lose his memories was William Stryker. Unfortunately, they had never found him.
He had not expected to run into someone this time who stirred up some of his old memories.
It took Logan a while to recover. The images in those memories were not very clear, but they were carved deeply into him. There was a scene from a long time ago, in a detached villa, where two children were playing.
There was also an image of him holding a shotgun, aiming it at an unfamiliar, angry-faced man.
Another showed a slightly older child pulling another child as they fled through the woods.
There was also a scene of him and that person charging through a battlefield under a storm of bullets.
These images did not form a whole, so Logan could not piece them together completely.
"Who are you?"
Logan could not hold back anymore. He strode toward Victor, but just as he drew near, an Astartes soldier with a burly build and a height of over 1.9 meters stepped in front of him expressionlessly.
The soldier lowered his head slightly, stared at Logan with cold eyes, and said in a deep voice, "Without the Leader's order, no one is allowed near our prisoner. Step back."
"Move."
Because this was tied to his lost memories, Logan's tone was full of irritation when he saw the Astartes soldier blocking him. He even slightly spread his hands, and six razor-sharp metal claws automatically extended from his knuckles.
These claws were sharp enough to easily slice through anything he had ever seen.
"Logan, what are you doing?"
The sudden standoff between Logan and the Astartes drew the attention of the X-Men, who had originally been focused on Professor X and Matthew's conversation.
When they saw what was happening, Phoenix Jean Grey and Cyclops Scott froze for a moment, then immediately walked over.
Scott placed a hand on Logan's shoulder, while Jean stepped in front of him.
"Logan, calm down." Jean Grey was a beautiful woman with short wine-red hair that fell to her shoulders. Because she had worked as a teacher for many years, her temperament was gentle.
She was somewhat worried about her companion.
"Hey, reckless guy. Now isn't the time to be reckless." Cyclops Scott and Logan had never seen eye to eye, but he still cared about Logan somewhat. He was just habitually blunt when he spoke.
Logan had no time to bicker with Scott right now. His gaze bypassed Jean Grey, staring directly at the Astartes soldier—or more accurately, trying to see Sabretooth Victor hidden behind him.
"He knows me, and I know him. When I saw him, some memories from the past appeared in my head. So all of you move. I need to ask him what the hell is going on."
Hearing that, Cyclops let go.
He knew very well just how important recovering his memories was to Logan.
Phoenix Jean Grey was the same. She understood Logan, so she turned to the Astartes soldier and made a request. "I'm sorry. My companion has lost his memories, and he may know something about Logan's past. Could you let them talk?"
"I said it requires the Leader's permission." The Astartes soldier remained unmoved.
Memories or no memories, he only cared about carrying out his duty.
Scott frowned and was just about to speak.
For a moment, the atmosphere between the two sides, which had still been fairly harmonious, suddenly grew tense.
The soldiers of the two warband once again cast over cold gazes, as if they were looking at the dead.
Even Needy, who had such a gentle personality, was the same.
The ordinary soldiers were no exception. They raised their guns one after another and aimed them at the X-Men, ready to pull the trigger at any moment.
Beast Hank and Storm felt rather helpless. They wanted to stop it, but there was simply nothing they could do.
After all, as companions, the two of them had to stand on Logan's side.
Fortunately, the disturbance here also drew the attention of Professor X and Matthew. Facing Professor X's helpless, pleading gaze, Matthew did not make things difficult for him. He simply turned his head slightly and said, "Aruna, step aside. Let them talk."
"Yes, Leader."
The Astartes soldier Aruna, who had been standing in front of Logan and the others, immediately answered respectfully when he heard Matthew's words, then moved aside.
The cold gazes of the remaining soldiers softened as well, and the ordinary soldiers holding firearms lowered their weapons.
That highly unified execution, and the effect brought by a single word from Matthew, made Professor X secretly startled.
Clearly, these people were extremely loyal to Matthew.
They would carry out any order from him without the slightest hesitation.
"They are all outstanding soldiers," Professor X could not help but sigh.
"I have never doubted that." Matthew smiled softly and accepted the praise without modesty.
After all, these were soldiers he had poured his own effort into cultivating.
On the other side, Logan walked up to Victor and stared fixedly at his face. "Who are you? Who am I?"
"Wow, Jimmy. Looks like after all these years, you still haven't recovered your memories. Forgetting your dear brother—how heartbreaking." Sabretooth Victor spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
"Brother? You're my brother?"
Logan's eyes drifted for a moment, as if he were thinking. Then he grew even more agitated, reaching out with both hands and grabbing Victor by the collar.
His action once again drew the soldiers' attention.
Brat, you were allowed to talk, not to put your hands on him.
But since the Leader had not spoken, they only watched him with their eyes and did not stop him aloud.
"Logan." Phoenix Jean Grey placed a hand on Logan's arm, using her gentle gaze to try to soothe his violent emotions.
The effect was excellent. Logan did indeed calm down a little.
"Ha. I never thought you'd actually listen to some girl." Victor thoroughly enjoyed provoking Logan, so he spoke up once more.
To his surprise, Logan wasn't provoked in the slightest. Instead, he loosened his grip and stared at Victor.
"Who exactly are you? Where do I come from?"
"Tsk, it seems that bullet really turned you stupid, Jimmy. It truly makes me happy."
Victor had no intention of telling Logan these things.
The grudges between the two brothers meant that right now he only wanted to see his little brother in pain. Memories? What memories?
If he had the ability, he could go find them himself.
