The night grew deeper. The mountains of the Tianbao Upper Sect had long since sunk into the ink-black night, with only the area around the main peak still glowing with scattered specks of light. In the side hall, sandalwood incense curled upward in faint wisps.
Tianbao Upper Sect's Sect Master Jiang Lishan sat cross-legged. His gaze was settled on Luo Ping, who stood with hands at his sides in the center of the hall.
"Hua Yunfeng has returned?"
His voice was even and calm, carrying not the slightest rise or fall of emotion.
"Yes, Master." Luo Ping bowed his head with a nod. "Peak Master Hua returned to the sect this afternoon. He went directly to the Myriad Techniques Peak and spoke with Peak Master Chen in the guest hall for nearly an hour. After leaving the Myriad Techniques Peak, he returned directly to Prison Peak and went into closed-door seclusion. This disciple sent someone to pass along a message, but was only told that Peak Master Hua was in seclusion and was not receiving outside guests, and no calling card was left for the main peak."
At this point, Luo Ping could not help stealing a glance at Jiang Lishan's expression.
If this were any ordinary sect's Sect Master, upon hearing that one of the sect's foremost elder Grandmasters had returned without coming to pay respects to the Sect Master, going directly to a junior's peak and then shutting his doors to all visitors, there would at minimum be some feeling of displeasure, or even concealed anger.
After all, the Sect Master was the head of the sect. Such behavior was plainly a sign of having no regard for this Sect Master at all.
But not a trace of irritation showed on Jiang Lishan's face. He only lowered his eyes slightly, shifted topics completely, and said nothing further about Hua Yunfeng. "What is the latest news from the Cloudwater Upper Sect?"
