Chapter 38 — A Tsundere Little Sister.
Kael had a habit of taking a walk after dinner to settle his thoughts. He stepped out of the house, drawing in a deep breath of the crisp night air.
Now that his immediate physical cravings had been satisfied, his senses were sharper, and he could feel something new with every inhale: a faint, tingling trace of an unknown substance swirling through the atmosphere.
He was certain this had to be the mana that the dragoness in his dreams had spoken of. The entity had been monumental—a real dragon, or perhaps something even more powerful—to have reached across the veil of reality to commune with him.
The sheer scale of that power still boggled his mind; the fact that the dragoness had been able to transfer mana to him from such an immense distance, all while appearing to be in a weakened, critical condition itself, suggested that the creature was operating on a level of existence he was only just beginning to grasp.
As he walked, Kael reached out with his mind, trying to pull more of that pervasive energy into his own core. If he could learn to harness what the dragoness had gifted him, he knew the dynamics of this world would shift in his favor.
Speaking of that dragoness, Kael mused, his fingers tracing the cool surface of the gem hanging around his neck. She claimed this was crucial for my survival in this world, yet so far, I haven’t discovered any use for it other than as a glorified intercom for a dyingdeity.
He frowned, staring into the darkness. There had to be more to the stone—it felt too heavy, too resonant with latent energy to simply be a conduit for messages. It likely held secrets to channeling or storing the mana he was just beginning to sense in the air.
He let out a long, ragged yawn, the exhaustion of the day finally catching up to him.
Between the intense, raw encounters with his mother and his aunt, his body felt drained, yet his mind remained dangerously active, buzzing with the possibilities of his newfound power.
Whatever its other uses are, they’ll have to wait until tomorrow, he decided, turning back toward the house.
He was spent, his muscles aching with the pleasant, heavy lethargy that only comes after hours of unrelenting, carnal indulgence. As he walked back to the house, he felt a strange sense of contentment.
Kael entered the house, the quiet stillness confirming that the rest of the family had already retired for the night.
As he headed toward the stairs, he noticed that the glowing gems—which served as the nightlights for their home in this world—were dimmed in Mira’s room. Looks like everyone is already asleep, he thought.
He entered his room and sat on his bed, crossing his legs. Before giving in to the exhaustion of the day, he stuck to the plan he had made: he began to channel the mana through his body, mimicking the technique the dragoness had shown him in his dreams.
He wanted to cement the process into his muscle memory, ensuring he wouldn’t forget how to manipulate the energy once he began generating his own.
He cycled the mana through his core a few times, feeling the familiar, ethereal hum of the power beneath his skin. Once he felt he had firmly grasped the rhythm, he decided it was enough for the night. With a final, satisfied sigh, he stretched out on his bed and drifted into a deep, heavy slumber.
Around midnight, Kael woke with a start, feeling a heavy weight pressing down on his chest that made it difficult to draw a full breath.
He cracked his eyes open to find a scantily dressed girl sitting astride his torso in the moonlight, her hands firmly gripped around his neck.
It took only a second to identify his sister—the resident tsundere, Mira.
"Well, that escalated quickly!" Kael choked out, attempting a dry laugh to break the tension.
Mira didn’t budge, her expression dark and unreadable. Seeing that she wasn’t interested in making polite conversation, Kael decided to take the lead.
"What brought the little devi—ahem, I mean, the little sister to her brother’s room in the middle of the night?"
He waited for a retort, but she remained silent. Just as he was about to press her again, she finally spoke, her voice cold and commanding. "I ask, you answer. Understood?"
Kael had no issue with that. He offered a disarming, earnest smile, doing his absolute best to keep his face neutral and not break into laughter at the sight of her trying to look so dangerous.
"Of course. We’re brother and sister, Mira. We can resolve any issues with a little discussion whenever you like."
He lay there, still pinned beneath her, watching her try to maintain a fierce, intimidating glare.
To Kael, she looked impossibly cute in her display of aggression, but he knew better than to vocalize that—at least for now. He waited, curious to see exactly what had finally pushed her to storm into his room at this hour.
"The first question is: why did you put your thing in Mom’s mouth?"
Kael wanted to facepalm himself so hard his hand would leave a print.
Seriously? This is the grand mystery that had her so worked up she had to hold her own brother hostage? For a fleeting second, he had actually been interested, thinking maybe she’d finally figured out some deeper secret, but this was almost laughably juvenile.
Thinking he was hesitating to answer, Mira gripped his throat a little tighter, her knuckles whitening. "Are you going to speak, or is that secret more important than your life?"
Kael lay there, secretly enjoying the little "gangster" act she was putting on. He played along, widening his eyes and letting a bead of fake sweat trickle down his temple. "Yeah, I’ll speak! Of course nothing is more important than my life."
He swallowed hard, keeping his voice trembling just enough to be convincing. "Actually... Mom is the one who asked me to put it inside her mouth."
"Liar! Why would Mom ever ask you to do that? How long do you think you can keep up with this lie?" Mira hissed, her eyes narrowing into slits as she gave him a death stare, her grip remaining firm.
Kael didn’t flinch, maintaining his look of terrified sincerity. "Of course she asked me to! It sounds crazy, but a friend of hers told her that doing that with your loved ones shows them exactly how much you care. I swear it on the name of the Goddess Gaia."
He felt a twinge of internal amusement as he said it. Swearing by the Goddess was an easy play; he didn’t believe in this religion at all, but he knew exactly how much weight it carried for someone like Mira.
As he expected, the mention of the Goddess acted like a charm. Mira’s face softened instantly, the sharp, aggressive edge to her posture vanishing as her grip on his throat loosened.
She hesitated, looking down at him with a mix of confusion and lingering suspicion.
"Is that why you were licking Mother down there this evening?" she asked, her voice dropping to a whisper.
Kael nodded slowly, keeping his expression grave. He saw no harm in letting her continue down this path of twisted logic.
After all, if she were actually capable of questioning their mother directly about it, she wouldn’t be sitting on top of him in the middle of the night playing detective.
As long as she stayed in this bubble of misinformation, she would never discover the truth of what was really happening in that shed.
Kael’s relief at her retreat was short-lived. He had barely exhaled, expecting her to scramble off the bed and head back to her room, when the air suddenly shifted.
Before he could even process the movement, he heard the faint sound of fabric sliding against skin.
He blinked, his eyes adjusting to the moonlight, only to find the silhouette of his sister standing over him.
She had discarded her skirt entirely. Before his brain could catch up to the reality of the situation, she had lowered herself back onto the bed, positioning herself with intent.
Suddenly, he found himself staring directly at the source of her recent agitation—a soft, pink slit with delicate, flushed lips, presented squarely in his face.
It was undeniably Mira’s anatomy, inches from his nose, smelling of nothing but youth and the faint, sweet scent of the evening air.
Then, her voice drifted down to him, calm and demanding, stripped of all her earlier aggression and replaced by a strange, sort of anticipation.
"Now, Brother. Show your little sister how much you love her."
Kael felt a slow, lewd grin spread across his face. He had expected her to be a closed book, but it seemed she was far more desperate to participate in his games than he had initially given her credit for.
So, you want to be included in the family play? he thought, his pulse quickening. Very well.
