Chapter 128: The Secret behind the White Lotus

Seraphel

"Soon to be back here," a familiar voice—one that sounded uncannily like my own—echoed inside my mind.

I blinked, the darkness shifting as my eyes widened.

A sudden jolt of memory slammed into me and I remembered the brutal impact to my stomach, the sickening heat of blood soaking through my clothes, the helpless terror of collapsing onto the cold stone floor.

"The baby!" I gasped out, my hands flying downward to clutch my abdomen.

I braced myself for the searing agony, but my fingers pressed against flat, unbroken skin. The wound was gone. The sharp, tearing pain that had threatened to extinguish my child’s life had vanished as if it had never existed in the first place.

I scrambled up, my eyes sweeping over the surreal, weightless expanse around me. Everything was bathed in a soft, ethereal calm, contrastingly peaceful against the violent inferno of Katula.

As the surrounding mist slowly receded, a massive white lotus came into view. Its petals radiated a gentle, pulsing glow—substantially larger and more vibrant than when I had last seen it.

I was back in my sea of consciousness.

"I am..." I muttered, trailing off as a tall Familiar figure in sweeping, snow-white robes materialized out of the fog before me.

A breath of genuine relief escaped my lips, followed by a breathless chuckle that rose in my throat. "Castiel. How the hell am I back here again?"

Castiel remained silent for a moment, simply raising a slender hand to point toward the luminous lotus.

"You will always be drawn back to this sanctuary whenever your life is endangered. The white lotus acts as a shield, preserving your soul," he explained softly, a gentle smile touching his lips. "However, this protection is not absolute. If your body continues to take fatal blows, the lotus petals will slowly wither and fall away until nothing remains."

"And what happens when every last petal falls?"

Castiel met my gaze, his quiet expression unreadable. He turned and walked slowly toward the glowing flower.

"I sincerely hope it never comes to that. Just know that the petals will not drop without warning—each lost chance will leave its mark."

I stared at his back, my brow furrowing with unanswered questions, before letting out a heavy, shuddering sigh. I rubbed my palm over my face, trying to ground myself.

"Is the baby really alright?"

Castiel nodded, gesturing toward the brilliant core of the flower.

"The child is safe for now. But see how the lotus has not grown beyond this state? It means you still have not begun your cultivation, even after I warned you to do so."

I stepped closer to him, a bitter groan escaping my chest.

"Azriel and I just... we fully bonded." My voice caught in my throat. We had not exchanged rings or sworn traditional vows, but our souls were irrevocably tied together now. "I’m bound to him completely. He promised he would send me off to cultivate in a month’s time..."

"And I assume you never expected disaster to strike so quickly," Castiel murmured softly. "You never thought you would end up stabbed on a palace floor, risking the life of your unborn child before that month ever arrived."

His words hit like a physical blow.

My hands dropped back to my stomach, fingers trembling as I pressed them over my womb.

A suffocating weight pressed down on my lungs, making it impossible to take a full breath.

I began to pace back and forth across the weightless floor, my boots making no sound against the mist, my knuckles white as I rubbed my hands together in a frantic, useless effort to stem the rising panic.

"What am I supposed to do?" My voice cracked, raw and suffocating under the pressure. "The kingdom is burning to the ground. Azriel is gone—vanished into thin air—and I’m stuck here, helpless, almost losing our baby while he isn’t even here to—"

I dragged both hands up into my hair, gripping the strands tightly, pulling just hard enough for the sharp sting to ground me.

My shoulders shook as I pulled in a ragged, desperate breath. I was failing. I was supposed to be strong, supposed to stand beside the Sins, yet here I was, collapsing at the first sign of a blade, entirely dependent on others to bleed and die in my place.

"I don’t know what I’m supposed to do... I have no idea how to fix any of this!"

Castiel watched me silently, offering no immediate comfort, before turning his gaze back to the glowing white lotus.

After a long pause, he turned back to face me.

"Are you not curious about what—or who—I am?"

The sudden question stalled my spiraling thoughts. Memories flashed through my mind: the way the grand Sins of the Realm had visibly stiffened, their expressions darkening with rare caution at the mere mention of his name.

"I know who you are," I said slowly, forcing my hands down to my sides. "You’re Castiel. You were once the Supreme King of Elysium."

A subtle smile curved Castiel’s lips.

"I figured you would have uncovered that much by now. But that is not what I am asking you. Let me rephrase that. what am I to you?"

What was he to me?

A swell of irritation surged through my chest, hot and sharp enough to temporarily burn away my panic. I nearly rolled my eyes at the sheer absurdity of the moment.

Here I was, dealing with a burning Kingdom and a missing mate, and he was playing riddle master in my head.

How was I supposed to know his exact connection to this body’s original soul? This entire world felt like a twisted narrative, a story unfolding around me, yet he kept holding back the crucial pieces of the puzzle.

Why build this maddening suspense when he could just give me a straight answer?

"Who are you really?" I demanded, taking a sharp step forward, my tone dropping into an angry, unyielding edge. "If there’s something I need to know, stop beating around the bush and tell me right now! Stop keeping me in the dark!"

Instead of answering, Castiel lifted his hands. His feet slowly lifted from the mist as he began to float upward, bathed in a shimmering radiance.

"It seems my time here for now has reached its end," he said calmly. "You must return to the land of the living. But before you go, I will reveal my true identity to you when you successfully reach the second realm of your cultivation—the Foundation Establishment stage."

"Why can’t you just tell me now?!" I yelled, my voice echoing violently across the vast expanse of my consciousness. I reached out toward him, my fingers closing on empty air as frustration boiled over inside me. "Stop wasting time!"

Castiel only offered a peaceful smile, raising his hands higher as his form began to glow with a blinding, incandescent brilliance.

"When the right time comes, everything will align. For now, I must bid you farewell. I leave you with the power of the light—use it to survive the battle ahead, Seraphel. until we meet again.’’

He began to fade into pure, golden light, his voice echoing from every direction at once.

"Protect yourself... and protect the child of prophecy."

"Wait! What about Azriel? Where is he? Where did they take him?!" I screamed into the void.

Before I could get another word out, a massive wave of force slammed directly into my chest.

The gentle calm of the sea of consciousness shattered. I was violently thrown backward, tumbling through the darkness as the giant white lotus shrank rapidly into a tiny speck of light.

The blinding power Castiel had bestowed surged through my veins like liquid fire, expanding rapidly and forcing my eyes open as the void collapsed around me and darkness took over once more.
