Chapter 86: Meeting the Seven
Seraphel
"He is waking up," a voice murmured from somewhere directly above me.
I groaned softly, squeezing my eyes shut to keep the intruding voices out of my head. All I wanted was to sink back into a deep, uninterrupted sleep.
Then, the gentle warmth of a hand brushed against my cheek, its fingers slowly and tenderly pinching my skin.
"Who is..." I groaned again, my throat raspy as I finally forced my eyelids to flutter open.
The very first thing I saw was a circle of faces peering down at me. Hazel eyes, amber-gold eyes, dark brown eyes, obsidian eyes, and crimson eyes.
My mind blindly tried to keep count, and I could have sworn I was staring at seven distinct pairs of eyes hovering over my bed.
Seven pairs of eyes? I blinked repeatedly, convinced my mind was playing tricks on me. But when I opened them wide, the faces remained right where they were.
My heart skipped a beat when the pair of crimson eyes suddenly softened, a familiar, faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
That smile was unforgettable. That was when reality hit me, and I realized I wasn’t dreaming anymore. Those crimson eyes belonged to him.
Azriel.
"Is the human acting foolishly on purpose? I could have sworn his eyes practically popped out of his skull the second he laid eyes on Azriel," a voice drawled from the right.
The sheer disdain dripping from every word made my eyes widen even further.
"Calm down, Sariel. He just woke up. He’s probably still trying to figure out if he’s in a dream or not," another voice interjected.
It sounded distantly familiar, but I wasn’t even paying attention to the tone.
My brain completely froze on the name that had just been dropped.
Sariel.
That... that was the Prince of Envy.
"Seraphel? Can you hear me, darling?" A pair of slender, pale hands began waving frantically in front of my face. The voice was soft, carrying a smooth, sophisticated edge much like Azriel’s, yet infinitely more dramatic.
"Quit waving your hands, Raziel! It’s annoying!" the first voice snapped. But the slender hands didn’t stop waving.
Raziel. The Prince of Greed.
No way. This cannot be happening, I thought, a surge of adrenaline shooting through my veins. I bolted upright in bed—and immediately slammed my forehead straight into Azriel, who had been leaning down way too close to me.
THUD.
A dull, agonizing ache exploded across my forehead. I winced hard, clutching my skull and cursing under my breath. Azriel barely even flinched from the impact, merely tilting his head to the side as he reached out, his thumb gently rubbing the tender spot on my forehead.
"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice laced with genuine concern.
Was I alright?! Of course I wasn’t alright! I was literally sitting in the exact center of the Seven Deadly Sins! I didn’t care about the throbbing ache in my skull.
I was far too consumed by the fact that the legendary figures were standing right in front of me in the flesh.
Out of all the novels, Azriel’s book was the one I had poured over the most, but I knew every single one of them like the back of my hand. I had been an absolute fan for years.
And now, they were standing here.
Alive. Breathing the same air as me.
"I think the human lost a few marbles while he was trapped in that nightmare world," one of them remarked casually.
Instead of answering Azriel, who was still hovering over me with a worried frown, I whipped my head to the left where the arrogant comment had come from.
A sharp gasp escaped my lips, and I slammed both hands over my mouth like a fanboy who had just walked into a private meet-and-greet.
Mint-green hair. Luxurious green robes flowing over his frame. Striking, golden-brown eyes, and an aura so suffocatingly elegant it practically screamed superiority.
"Luceriel!" I practically squealed, pointing a trembling finger right at him like I had just spotted my absolute favorite idol.
Luceriel stared down at me, his eyes cold and full of absolute, towering contempt.
The air around him grew heavy, vibrating with a terrifying, ancient pressure that made it feel as though the room itself were bowing to him.
"A lowly mortal dares to speak my name so casually, without a single honorific?" he purred, his voice smooth as silk yet heavy enough to crush a lesser man to his knees. "How utterly audacious."
Instead of cowering under his suffocating aura, I just let out an excited chuckle, completely unbothered as my eyes darted to the deity beside him.
Taizel was there—the one I had met back in that terrible nightmare.
And standing right next to him was Uriel, who looked like he was about to fall asleep on his feet with his eyes half-closed.
Then, sitting right across from me, were those striking amber-gold eyes I had glimpsed when I first woke up from the nightmare.
I paused for a second, my mind racing at a hundred miles an hour as I tried to connect the face to the lore.
"Thamiel, why does he look so ridiculously excited to see my brothers?" Azriel’s voice grumbled from my side.
"I have no idea," Thamiel answered, crossing his arms. "When he woke up the first time, I checked his spiritual core and his inner energy. Everything is completely fine, so I haven’t the faintest clue why he’s looking at them like they are prizes."
They had no idea. They had absolutely no concept of what it felt like to stand face-to-face with the very legends I had read about for years.
"Why do you keep staring at me, human? Do you have some kind of issue with me already?" the one with the amber-gold eyes asked, his tone laced with sharp suspicion.
I didn’t answer right away, mentally running through the list until the lightbulb finally went off.
Azriel had called him Sariel earlier!
"Sariel!" I yelled, snapping my fingers in triumph and pointing straight at him. "Wow, you are ridiculously pretty in person!" I started clapping my hands together like I had completely lost my mind.
Sariel blinked, his sharp scowl wavering for a fraction of a second as a faint flush touched his ears before he caught himself.
"I really don’t like how excited he is right now," Azriel grunted, grabbing my shoulder to pull my attention back to him.
But I wasn’t done. Not even close.
My eyes swept the room for the rest of the brothers.
To my right stood a man draped in the most ridiculously flashy robes I had ever laid eyes on, practically dripping in solid gold chains and shimmering jewels.
I didn’t need anyone to introduce him.
"Raziel!" I blurted out, pointing at him.
Raziel’s eyes lit up with absolute delight. "Oh, I just love the way my name sounds coming from your lips! Tell you what—once you’re done carrying Azriel’s child, you are more than welcome to come join my harem," he purred, flashing a dazzling smile and tossing me a shamelessly dramatic wink.
I let out a breathless laugh. The Prince of Greed was living up to his title in every conceivable way.
"Cut it out, Raziel!" a deep, reverberating voice growled from the darkest corner of the room.
My head snapped toward the sound. The first thing that caught my eye was a shock of fiery red hair, followed by a face so ridiculously handsome it barely made sense.
"Lumiel!" I shouted, my eyes wide.
Lumiel merely tilted his head, staring at me with a stoic, unreadable expression. But my gaze had already dropped lower.
My jaw practically hit the bed sheets as I took in the rest of him. The man was built like a brick wall. His chest was massive, his shoulders broad enough to block out the sun, and under his half-open tunic, I could clearly outline a set of chiseled, rock-hard abs that looked like they were sculpted by the gods themselves.
I sat there, completely shameless, practically drooling as my eyes traced every single ridge of his abs—
"SERAPHEL!"
Azriel’s roar shattered my trance. He grabbed my chin, forcefully twisting my face away from his brother until I was forced to look directly into his blazing crimson eyes.
"Why the hell is your face turning red?!" Azriel demanded, his voice dangerously low as his grip on my jaw tightened just a bit. "Are you seriously checking out my brothers right in front of me?!"
The entire room descended into absolute chaos all at once.
"Can you really blame the human, Azriel?" Raziel chimed in, tossing his hair over his shoulder with a theatrical sigh. "He clearly has exquisite taste. Look at how he reacted to me!"
"Exquisite taste?" Sariel scoffed loudly, crossing his arms and glaring at Raziel. "He called me pretty first! Why are you trying to take credit for his reaction?!"
"Both of you need to shut up," Luceriel commanded coldly, his green robes rustling as he stepped forward, looking like he was five seconds away from smite-evaporating everyone in the room. "The mortal called my name with zero respect, yet you two are bickering like stray dogs over a few mindless compliments."
"Hey, don’t look at me," Taizel muttered, leaning casually against the wall while tossing a piece of dried fruit into his mouth. "I’m just glad he didn’t scream at my face again. Although, watching Azriel get jealous over Lumiel’s abs is the best entertainment I’ve had in a century."
"It’s loud... you’re all far too loud..." Uriel grumbled from the corner, his head resting against his palm as his eyes drifted shut again. "Can someone please just quiet down so I can sleep?"
"I am not jealous!" Azriel snapped, his Crimson aura flaring wildly, though his eyes remained locked onto mine, burning with possessive fury. "Seraphel, answer me! Why were you staring at Lumiel like that?!"
I swallowed hard, looking at Azriel’s furious, glowing face, then glanced back toward Lumiel’s absurdly defined chest, and then back to Azriel.
"...I mean," I squeaked out weakly, "have you seen him?"
"SERAPHEL!"
