Chapter 47: The Trigger of Calamity
Azriel
Seraphel clearly didn’t like the crown princess’s announcement. I could easily tell by the sharp, defensive way he had stared right at me the moment the words left my mouth, and by the heavy knot of irritation that had tightened inside of me through our marking bond.
But everything I was doing right now was solely to keep him safe, because he was currently being hunted.
The concubine and the servant who were locked up in the dungeons for investigation had both been found dead suddenly this morning.
"There was no struggle, nor did they have a single physical mark on their bodies, your highness," Malachi had informed me grimly. "It seems they were completely eliminated through a dark magic curse."
And that was not all. Just a few hours ago, Anomas had called me in a total panic over the newest vision he had received.
"I saw him completely surrounded by blood, Azriel. He is in grave danger, and I keep having this exact same vision over and over again, with different futures showing me exactly how he dies."
I had heaved a deep, frustrated sigh after hearing that. I already knew that announcing the pregnancy would bring hidden enemies straight to our doorsteps, but never did I imagine they would move this quickly.
"What do I do to keep him safe, Anomas? He is only an omega, a human at that. If this baby is the key to liberating my brothers and me... freeing us from our eternal curse, then we must do absolutely everything to protect him. He cannot die."
"I suggest announcing him as your crown princess immediately," Thamiel had suggested.
"What? That is insane! I don’t want to have a crown princess! I am the Prince of Lust, I cannot be bound to one single person for the rest of eternity! You know exactly how the royal mating bond works. If I get officially married to him, it means he won’t just be my mate, but my absolute soulmate. A deadly sin cannot have a soulmate, and you know it!"
Anomas let out a loud groan, angrily throwing his hands up in the air. "Would you rather watch him become a corpse right in front of your eyes? The suspected concubine was found dead, Azriel! Not a physical death, but an assassination done with high-level magic. Even though you had your own powerful wards up, and even though Lumiel sent his elite people here to establish the strongest defensive barriers, they still found a way inside! You didn’t see that vision of mine, Azriel, because it was absolutely terrifying. Seraphel died ten different times right in front of me, and I had to watch as you completely burned and destroyed the entire world ten times over out of sheer grief."
"I am not going to destroy the world over—"
"Oh, spare me that absolute bullshit, Azriel! Your real curse isn’t just about you being the Prince of Lust. You are a destined calamity, and one single snap of your sanity means you will bring the entire world to its knees. Believe me when I say that Seraphel is your ultimate trigger. So making him your princess to keep him under your constant guard is the only way out of this," Thamiel said firmly, leaving absolutely no room for arguments.
After that tense meeting with Thamiel and Anomas, I immediately contacted my brothers through the communication orbs. Unfortunately, only Pride and Envy were actually available to show up for the meeting.
"Tell me why you have summoned me, brother," Luceriel demanded. His grand figure appeared within the glowing light, and I could see that he was elegantly seated in front of a massive desk with an ancient book held carelessly in his hand. "Has something tragic happened to your dear pregnant omega?"
I sighed heavily, looking from him over to Sariel, who was throwing suspicious, narrow glances at me but saying absolutely nothing. It was moments like this that I highly wished I could read my own brothers’ minds, but I couldn’t.
The privilege of mind reading did not extend to those I shared my divine cultivation with—my brothers had cultivated more than enough power to completely block me from ever entering their thoughts.
"Our dear siblings didn’t even have the absolute decency to show up to an urgent meeting," Sariel spoke up, his voice dripping with bitter envy as he crossed his arms.
"Lumiel said he was currently leading a war against the moon walkers attacking his northern borders," Luceriel replied smoothly, his eyes still fixed entirely on the pages of his book. "Uriel is completely stuck in his own dreams again and hasn’t woken up in days. Raziel is probably searching the universe for the next priceless thing to hoard, as he never seems to be satisfied. And Taizel is just being Taizel. Apparently, whatever worldly, trivial things he wants to indulge in today are far more important than a meeting with his own flesh and blood." Luceriel finally looked up from his book, his eyes cold and full of supreme arrogance. "So, brother, why the sudden summon?"
"It is concerning Seraphel."
"I do not know whom you speak of," Luceriel responded smoothly, not caring to remember a commoner’s name.
I rolled my eyes hard. "The omega boy, the destined one, brother."
"What happened to him then?" Sariel interjected quickly, a sharp glint in his eye. "Did he finally die?"
A deep frown formed on my face at his words, and I shook my head. "No. I am taking him as my official Crown Princess."
A sudden, dramatic gasp sounded through the room, but it didn’t come from Sariel or Luceriel. It came from a loud, highly annoying tone that sounded incredibly condescending.
"How glamorous of you to finally join us, Taizel," Luceriel muttered without looking up.
Taizel’s figure materialised in the orb, actively waving his hands to flaunt a ridiculously lavish golden robe. "The newest collection from the fine land of Babiti! It cost me about—"
"No one cares," Sariel instantly snapped, shutting him down. "We have far more pressing issues at hand than to care about your material vanity."
"Brother, I know you are just deeply jealous that you can’t possess this level of luxury. There is truly no need for you to display your envy so vividly," Taizel scoffed, running a hand over the expensive fabric.
"I can’t help it," Sariel sneered, his eyes flashing with irritation as he glared at the shimmering material. "After all, I am the Prince of Envy. It is my literal birthright to hate everything you own, especially when you wear something that hideous."
"Hideous? This is pure art, you uncultured swine!" Taizel gasped dramatically, clutching his golden lapels as if he had been physically struck. "You just wish your treasury was half as overflowing as mine. Go cry about it in your empty closet."
I palmed my forehead in pure exhaustion as the two of them immediately started arguing back and forth over clothes, while Luceriel simply ignored them both and went right back to reading his book.
I knew for a fact that this meeting would go on and on for hours with absolutely no real conclusion, so I decided to end it immediately. "The wedding will be in exactly one week, brothers. Please do arrive in Katula well before the ceremony begins," I told them coldly.
And before any of them could even start arguing or protesting my sudden decision, I cut off the spiritual energy to the orb, shutting it down instantly and making their figures vanish into thin air.
