Chapter 99: The Name is Vague, Couldn’t Think of One
The Tibetan Mastiff ignored him, fighting to snatch the food away.
Uncle Fu was furious. "Little Boy! You have no doggie manners!"
’If a dog lived its life by a moral code, would it still be a dog?’ Little Boy thought, ignoring him.
A dog’s gotta be a dog.
Gu Yunqi frowned. Who on earth had let Little Boy out?
Whenever they came home, Little Boy was always supposed to be locked up. The reason was that Gu Xulin was afraid of animals.
"Lock him up, now."
The reminder of Gu Xulin’s impending arrival made Uncle Fu give up fighting for the takeout. "Be a good boy, Little Boy. You can have this if you want, but you have to go back to your room to eat it."
Little Boy ignored him, grabbing the takeout bag in his mouth, his tail wagging so hard it could fly.
Neither Uncle Fu nor the others watched variety shows, especially not Gu Xulin’s, so they had no idea that Gu Xulin had become desensitized to animals.
He even dared to ride a tiger now.
If you were to ask why they didn’t watch, it was because seeing someone they knew so well act all serious on a variety show...
...was just hilarious.
When Gu Xulin first debuted, Uncle Fu had laughed at him for a whole month over one of his dramas. After that, he never told them about his work again.
"Who is Little Boy?" Gu Zhao asked, confused.
Uncle Fu’s expression softened as he looked at Gu Zhao. "Young Miss, it’s the Tibetan Mastiff you’re sitting on."
"Why is he called Little Boy? Isn’t he a she?" Gu Zhao was extremely puzzled. The mastiff’s voice was clearly that of a little girl.
"Because his father is named Old Boy, his mother is named Zhongnanhai, so he’s called Little Boy."
"Your mother gave his parents their names. Your second brother gave him his."
Gu Zhao glanced at Gu Yunqi. ’Well, I guess it’s got some class.’
’When my eagles get here, I’ll give them even more epic names!’
"Huh? Why are you all standing outside? Waiting for me? I guess you guys do have a conscience after all."
Gu Xulin walked over, panting.
"Gu Xiao Zhao, how did you get a new mount already?" Gu Xulin walked up to Little Boy and lifted her right off the dog.
"An old saying goes, ’Ride a dog, and you’ll rip your pants.’"
Gu Zhao said, "When I’m old, I’m going to make up nonsense too. I’ll pass this one down: ’If you don’t give Gu Zhao money, you’ll fall out of bed in the middle of the night.’"
Little Boy growled in discontent, dropped the takeout, and butted Gu Xulin’s leg with his head.
’That awful Little Four, give me back my Sister Xiangxiang!’
’Have you forgotten whose dad helped you eat your homework?!’
Gu Xulin nonchalantly pushed the dog’s head away.
Uncle Fu’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Gu Xulin. "Y-Y-Young... Young..."
Gu Xulin frowned. "Uncle Fu, that’s a bit rude!"
"Young Master, you’re not afraid of animals anymore?!?!"
Gu Yunqi also gave Gu Xulin a searching look.
Gu Xulin paused for a moment. "Huh, I guess not..."
’I’ve seen so many, I’m immune now.’
Gu Yunqi glanced at Gu Xulin, then turned to Uncle Fu. "Check the security footage. Find out who let him out."
Uncle Fu’s expression turned serious. Every time the young masters were due to return, he would repeatedly give orders to keep a close watch on Little Boy! He couldn’t believe the dog had still managed to get out.
’If there isn’t a traitor in our midst, I’ll eat takeout for three days straight!’
’And order three milk teas a day! I’ll let myself get fat!’
However, after checking, he was embarrassed. "Second Young Master, the camera is broken."
It couldn’t have been more of a coincidence.
"Sister Xiangxiang~ I know who let me out!" Hearing their conversation, Little Boy’s mind spun, and he instantly found a chance to curry favor!
’I have to make Sister Xiangxiang like me!’
"Uncle Fu, please gather everyone. Little Boy says he knows who it was," Gu Zhao said, looking at Uncle Fu.
Uncle Fu paused, then a doting smile appeared on his face. "That’s wonderful, Young Miss~ But why don’t you leave this to us?"
His tone, as if coaxing a child, clearly showed he didn’t believe her.
Just as Gu Xulin was about to vouch for Gu Zhao, Gu Yunqi’s cold voice cut in. "Do as she says."
Uncle Fu immediately went to do it. ’Oh well, as long as the Young Miss is happy,’ he thought.
Soon, everyone except for Gu Xingyu had been gathered at the entrance. Gu Jiao was also brought over.
The moment Gu Yunqi saw Gu Jiao, he frowned.
’Why is she here again!’
Gu Jiao didn’t even look at Gu Yunqi. Her face was flushed as she stared at Gu Zhao.
Little Boy walked around in front of the crowd.
Everyone remained calm. After all, the first question they were asked when applying for a job here was whether they were afraid of dogs.
Little Boy sniffed around and then walked up to a middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was wearing a chef’s uniform. Seeing the dog’s head stop in front of him, he smiled gently. "Did you smell the bone soup on me?"
"I simmered a big bone for you. I’ll feed it to you once it’s cooled down a bit."
He had a kind and benevolent smile.
Uncle Fu didn’t pay it much mind, thinking that Little Boy was probably just hungry.
The other servants didn’t take it seriously either.
"Sister Xiangxiang! Sister Xiangxiang! It’s him! He has the same scent! He’s the one who opened the door for me!" Little Boy exclaimed excitedly.
Gu Yunqi frowned. "This is pointless. Let’s dismiss everyone."
"It’s him," Gu Zhao’s voice sounded at the same time as his.
Gu Xulin didn’t doubt it for a second. He immediately ordered the man to be seized.
But the servants and security guards just looked confused. No one moved.
"Gu Zhao, stop messing around. And you," Gu Yunqi said, looking at Gu Xulin, "has your ability to think for yourself run away from home?"
Seeing that no one was moving, Gu Xulin’s face darkened. His second brother’s words only irritated him more.
"You don’t even believe our sister, what kind of brother are you!" Gu Xulin glared at Gu Yunqi and stepped forward to restrain the middle-aged man himself.
Gu Yunqi’s face was cold. "He has worked for the Gu Family for ten years. Are you trying to break a loyal retainer’s heart?"
"There’s nothing wrong with you believing Gu Zhao, but to break a loyal retainer’s heart like this without any evidence—do you really think that’s appropriate?"
Gu Xulin’s brow furrowed tightly. "Gu Xiao Zhao isn’t wrong. And even if she is, I’ll apologize for my actions. But Second Brother, you’re siding with an outsider over your own sister. Don’t you think that will break her heart?"
"Our sister was missing for so long, and you’re treating her like this right after we found her. What’s your problem? Don’t you like her?"
Gu Yunqi felt that Gu Xulin was becoming more and more rebellious.
The middle-aged man looked at Uncle Fu and Gu Yunqi with a wounded expression. "Second Young Master, Housekeeper Fu, you have to believe me! I’ve worked for the Gu Family for over a decade! I’ve been diligent and conscientious every single day. I have a clear conscience! What on earth have I done for the Young Miss to team up with Little Boy and slander me the moment she returns!"
The middle-aged man tearfully proclaimed his unwavering loyalty over the past decade and more.
The other servants began to whisper among themselves.
"Sigh, the Young Master must be trying to establish the Young Miss’s authority. It’s a shame Old Zhang has to be the one made an example of."
"I know, right? Old Zhang seems like such an honest person. If he had actually done something, that’d be one thing. But for the Young Miss to insist on something baseless, and for the Young Master to believe her so blindly... We’ll have to be extra careful from now on."
Uncle Fu couldn’t listen anymore. "All of you, shut up! Do you not want to work here anymore?!"
Gu Yunqi also looked at them. "Anyone gossiping about the Young Miss is fired."
Gu Xulin felt a little better, but he still said sarcastically, "What, now you’re not afraid of breaking hearts?"
"Because you have evidence. You heard them disrespecting their employer. But in Old Zhang’s case, you have no evidence," Gu Yunqi said flatly.
Gu Xulin was about to argue with him again when Gu Zhao, stroking the dog’s head, said, "It’s true, there’s no evidence that he let the dog out."
Old Zhang breathed a sigh of relief, the corners of his mouth secretly turning up.
"But about the fact that I was abandoned... I think I might have some evidence for that."
