Chapter 258 249: Child of the Version
Luh Yao ordered his Apostles to capture the Calamity Beasts and send them to Yunzhong Temple for rehabilitation. Soon, the beasts would become calm and peaceful, following the Guest Monk to cultivate themselves.
However, if the Calamity Beasts were sent back to the Yao Race World, they would once again become frenzied and savage, reverting to nightmare monsters controlled by the laws of calamity and resuming their disastrous mission.
It was a classic case of the environment shaping the individual.
So, Luh Yao simply exiled all the Calamity Beasts to Yunzhong Temple and let them stay there.
Now, a group of Calamity Beasts of all shapes and sizes followed behind the fat, fish-headed Guest Monk. Like traveling monks, they listened to his sermons, each one quiet and silent.
Some of the Calamity Beasts could not shake their savage nature, even attacking their own kind. They all ended up in the Guest Monk's stomach.
The Guest Monk's exact words were: "Since you do not cherish life and yearn for death, then I am willing to provide a little assistance."
Aside from negative effects like the Calamity Beasts and poisonous mosquitos, the Era Update also provided a minor buff to all plant life.
On the Southern New Continent, the Elf population had increased significantly, and a wild Tree Person was even born in the Symbiotic Forest. The entire Elf Village was filled with a vibrant, flourishing atmosphere.
Along with this, the Elf Lake wonder also reached LV2. The Lake Treasure Chest now had a chance of producing Fine Level equipment.
This, in turn, attracted a large number of Adventurers to the Elf Lake.
Another region that benefited was the Eastern Continent Divine Valley.
Pinkman's team cultivated numerous roses in the valley, primarily red, white, and yellow ones. Most of these roses were small and short, requiring generations of selective breeding to become the varieties they desired.
This system-wide enhancement drastically increased the growth rate of the roses, creating a vast sea of flowers in the valley.
When Luh Yao asked, Pinkman happily reported on the roses' current status.
"Lord God, the Divine Valley now has four Rose Envoys. Our rose varieties include the Gentle Green Rose, Maiden Red Rose, Warning White Rose, and Warlike Yellow Rose."
"The growth rate of the Gentle Green Roses has increased significantly. They seem to be doing very well in Crystal City and have become an essential part of the Flower Boats."
"The other types are new varieties."
"Yu Gu, give our Lord God a demonstration."
The Little Fishman immediately walked over to a Maiden Red Rose—a vibrantly colored variety that was slightly taller than him, about the height of an average adult man.
The rose blossom turned away slightly, as if it didn't want to be too close to the Little Fishman.
Pinkman explained, "Maiden Red Roses are shy by nature. They get nervous easily, even around people they know well. In truth, this Red Rose is very fond of Yu Gu. It deliberately waits for him to visit before it blooms."
A blushing emoji appeared above the Little Fishman's head.
Luh Yao was speechless. 'What the hell are you blushing for?'
He was more concerned about the Maiden Red Rose's purpose. 'Is this just for the fun of a raising sim?'
"Lord God, if a Maiden Red Rose receives patient care and sufficient companionship, it will mature very quickly. They are the variety most likely to become a Rose Envoy."
Pinkman waved to the side, and a young woman in a red dress emerged from behind the rose bushes.
"This is Hongye. She is a Rose Envoy who transformed from a Maiden Red Rose."
Hongye knelt, her long skirt fanning out across the grass like red petals. "Lord God, thank you for your grace. It is only through your benevolence that I was able to be reborn."
'So it really is a raising sim,' Luh Yao thought.
'I have to admit,' he thought, 'the Maiden Red Rose would probably be quite popular.'
Next, Pinkman demonstrated the Warning White Rose.
As its name suggested, this White Rose possessed a keen ability to identify threats. It monitored every individual within its effective range, and if a suspicious stranger approached, it would release an acrid aroma.
Pinkman said, "I originally wanted to breed an Attendant White Rose, but I failed for many generations and got stuck at the Warning White Rose stage. However, I'm making progress now. It shouldn't take too much longer."
The final variety, the Warlike Yellow Rose, was rather special.
It thrives on combat.
If someone fights it, the Yellow Rose becomes extremely excited. It will writhe its stems to engage the enemy in melee, and if it creates some distance, it will even shoot out thorns.
It also loves to watch fights.
Even when watching others brawl, like the Fighting Shovel Armor and Monster Strength Grass, it will get excited, blooming and writhing.
"A Rose Envoy from a Warlike Yellow Rose possesses formidable combat abilities. They are natural-born warriors. Only battle makes them passionate and unrestrained. Huang Lie, come over."
Pinkman waved his hand, and another figure in yellow clothing emerged from behind the bushes. He wordlessly knelt on the ground, appearing quite introverted.
Luh Yao checked and saw that this Yellow Rose Envoy was actually LV22, significantly higher than the previous White Rose Envoy.
'That's a surprisingly high level of power,' he thought.
Luh Yao asked for more details about the Warlike Yellow Rose.
"That's not quite it."
Pinkman explained, "Lord God, Huang Lie leveled up so quickly because he frequently spars with the Monster Strength Grass. In this Era, the Monster Strength Grass is quite formidable as a whole, making them excellent opponents for the Warlike Yellow Roses."
Luh Yao adjusted his point of view to look at the forest.
Strange monsters of various shapes had appeared in the forest. Their bodies were formed from condensed, tangled grass. Some had three heads and six arms, some had the heads of beasts on human bodies, and others were shaped like towers and ships. They were obsessed with dueling and fighting each other, and all other creatures gave them a wide berth.
All of these grass monsters were labeled as Monster Strength Grass, with levels ranging from LV10 to LV28.
Luh Yao marveled at this.
'They must be the darlings of this patch.'
He glanced toward a corner.
Only the Fighting Shovel Armor continued their cycle of eating and sleeping. They had completely given up, accepting their role at the bottom of the Divine Valley's food chain.
Now that they no longer fought to be the strongest, they lived peaceful lives.
In another area, Canopy City remained orderly.
The squirrels were numerous and reproduced quickly, but because it was difficult for them to develop true Wisdom, their progress fell into a slump after an initial boom. This was a result of their racial Traits.
It was unlikely they would make any significant progress in the near future.
Finally, Luh Yao remembered he still had the Cleaner Fish Waste. It seemed to be a high-quality fertilizer, so he tossed it to Pinkman to use on the roses.
The former King was so taken with the lump of waste that he couldn't put it down, immediately taking it to tend to his roses.
...
Luh Yao switched out of the simulator and logged on to the Committee's official website.
In the beginning, he'd had no choice but to figure everything out on his own. Now that there were guides available, he naturally had to read them.
Besides numerous announcements, notices, and public statements, the Committee's website also had an informational section. Though it didn't contain much, it was still a useful reference.
A post titled "Player's Guide" was pinned to the top.
"If you discover that you or someone you know has become a player, do not panic. This is a special, natural phenomenon that has persisted throughout human History."
"The history of humanity is the history of the Gods, and also the history of players."
"As far back as the Paleolithic Era, humanity had already come into contact with contemporary versions of the simulator and mastered how to use this tool..."
It briefly discussed the development of the player community from ancient to modern times.
Although the wording was very official, it contained a lot of solid information.
"...Players are advised to focus on stable development and reduce unnecessary conflict and confrontation. Foundational infrastructure will affect the experience during the subsequent Gods Tier..."
"If you encounter any life-threatening situations or danger, please immediately call 911 or the Committee's Execution Bureau at XXXXX."
"We also welcome you to report any problems or provide suggestions at any time. We wish you a pleasant and enjoyable journey."
Luh Yao rested his chin on his hand, scanning through the list of titles, but he still couldn't find what he was looking for: how to write rules in the world's backend.
He did make some other discoveries, though.
Another column titled "Daily Tips & Tricks (Continuously Updated)" was full of first-hand advice.
"...After becoming Gods, there are several levels for assessing the power of other Divine Kingdoms. From lowest to highest, they are: Insignificant as an Ant, Slightly Weaker, Evenly Matched, Overwhelming, and Godlike. These descriptions represent the disparity in overall strength between two parties."
"'Insignificant as an Ant' indicates that your combined base of Faith and population is at least 10 times greater than your opponent's. 'Slightly Weaker' means your base is between 2 and 10 times greater than theirs..."
"If you discover special spaces or areas within the simulator but find them difficult to access due to certain restrictions, even if you possess the required entry artifact, there are two methods you can try."
"Method One: Try strengthening the access artifact or device with an All-Purpose Stone. Many cases have shown that raising the artifact's Tier produces better results."
"Method Two: Be on the lookout for artifacts with analytical abilities. Inspecting the target with such an artifact will likely yield new clues and methods."
Luh Yao focused his attention on Method Two.
He was currently facing just such a problem.
Logically, the Black Abyss should be a world that the Silvanus Tree runs through. But in the Golden Field's backend interface, there were no relevant indicators, nor was there any way to anchor the Abyss.
This puzzled Luh Yao.
He didn't have an artifact with analytical abilities.
But he did have a wonder with analytical abilities.
Luh Yao switched back to the simulator and tossed the Abyssal Key to the Clockwork Monkeys in the tree. The busy monkeys immediately swarmed over, surrounding the key and scratching their heads in confusion.
A notification immediately popped up on the screen.
[The Clockwork Monkeys have discovered the Abyssal Key.]
[The Clockwork Monkeys want to dismantle this key to obtain all its information and reopen the passage to the Abyss. Do you consent?]
Luh Yao selected "Yes."
