Chapter 241 233: Divine Kingdom Curse
Luh Yao dragged the Apostle Mark onto the Guest Monk, and with that, he had his seventh Apostle.
The catfish head was the only living being left in Yunzhong Temple, and the last person privy to the world's many secrets.
After becoming an Apostle, a dazed emoji floated above the Guest Monk's head.
It opened its wide, flat mouth, its fish eyes filled with confusion. "Lord God, I've never been an Apostle before. I don't know what I'm supposed to do..."
A lightbulb suddenly appeared over the catfish head's forehead as if it had just had an idea.
It dove into the sand, popping its head back out a moment later to spit out a large clam made of yellow sand.
"Lord God, this is the Fire of Faith I collected from Yunzhong Temple. Please, use it."
'The Guest Monk might seem a bit slow with that fish brain of his,' Luh Yao thought, 'but he knows what's important.'
He clicked on the Sand Clam.
...
[Sand Heart Clam LV2]: Faith +1/hour. Can store and hide the Fire of Faith.
...
Next to the Sand Heart Clam's entry was a Flame symbol with the number [229306] inside.
All of Yunzhong Temple's Fire of Faith was stored in this Artifact.
Luh Yao gladly accepted it. This infusion of nearly 230,000 Faith pushed his Faith Reserve past the four million mark.
He wondered.
'I've been spending it like crazy, so how is it that the more I use, the more I have?'
'So this is what it's like to be rich.'
He snapped out of his thoughts and did some quick math.
According to Earth time, for the Sand Heart Clam to accumulate 230,000 Faith at a rate of one point per hour, it would take 26 years.
For Yunzhong Temple in its Low Realm Dimension, at least 95,000 years must have passed.
The catfish head said, "Lord God, the [Sand Heart Clam] was the last Fire Seed Artifact to be born in this world before the progression of Eras came to a halt. I buried it underground, letting it slowly gather the world's Fire of Faith."
Luh Yao realized something he'd overlooked.
The passive Faith generation of a Fire Seed Artifact didn't come from the Artifact itself; rather, it was the Artifact's ability to slowly gather the Fire of Faith from its surrounding world.
The rarity of Fire Seed Artifacts in the Yao Race World was likely related to this underlying mechanism.
Text began to continuously appear in the box above the Guest Monk's head.
"Actually, based on the memories and oral accounts of the Sand Walkers, this was Lord Cloud Guest's situation..."
...
Cloud Guest had been gravely injured.
During the disaster in the Flying District, His Divine Kingdom fell, and He was struck by a death Curse from an Exotic Object.
This Curse caused Cloud Guest's Divine Body to grow weaker by the day. His Divine Kingdom was also affected; the population dwindled and the Fire of Faith diminished. Eventually, the Curse would spread throughout the entire world, utterly destroying everything.
Only a massive, one-time infusion of the Fire of Faith could destroy the Curse.
Cloud Guest had very little Faith left and was simply unable to do so.
By the time He recovered even a little of His strength, the Curse had already spread from Him, its epicenter, to encompass all of Yunzhong Temple.
First, the large animals died one after another. Then, smaller animals and insects lost their vitality. Finally, the trees, flowers, and grass... The world withered before their very eyes, and the Divine Kingdom became desolate and ruined.
The Curse seeped into every corner of the Divine Kingdom.
Even the rules of the world were warped. Grasslands, rivers, and forests gradually turned into deserts. The weather became a cycle of Hurricanes and dense fog, while Rainfall grew exceedingly rare. One by one, the Extraordinary Beings among the Believers perished in the harsh environment.
To deal with this situation, Cloud Guest came up with two solutions.
Externally, He actively sought to overlap with Gravel Worlds, attempting to expand the Divine Kingdom and introduce new environments to alleviate the situation.
Internally, He created the Ascension Path, allowing his Believers to become Cloud Monks and Sand Walkers, using the world's own limitations to avoid having their lives claimed by the Curse.
But in the end, these measures only treated the symptoms, not the root cause.
The situation worsened day by day.
Cloud Guest's Divine Body was on the verge of collapse.
In the end, Cloud Guest severed Himself from the Divine Palace and chose to walk alone toward an unknown fate, taking none of his Believers with Him.
Only by severing His connection to the Divine Kingdom could its collapse be halted.
The Ascension Path He left behind became the only hope for escaping this dying world.
One by one, the Sand Walkers followed in their God's footsteps and left the world.
Whether they lived or died, they never returned.
The Believers unable to ascend eventually perished in despair. Their last act of courage and perseverance was to have the Guest Monk devour them, allowing them to watch over Yunzhong Temple in another form.
They begged the Guest Monk that, in the uncertain future, should he be fortunate enough to meet a passing visitor or some God, he must tell them that Yunzhong Temple had existed.
About Cloud Guest, who had walked to his death for the sake of all His Believers.
About the Cloud Monks who could no longer speak.
About the Sand Walkers who walked the line between nothingness and death.
About the distant past, now being forgotten, and the present, which had long been lost to Stagnation.
And then, to greet the stranger with courtesy.
"Guests from afar, Yunzhong Temple welcomes you."
When there is no future, one can only cling desperately to the present and the past.
The Undying Guest Monk would wait silently in this barren desert for the world's destruction, day after day, year after year.
...
Luh Yao read the Guest Monk's account with patience and care, and the many questions he had were finally answered.
Yunzhong Temple was of a considerable size, yet its world rules had suffered catastrophic damage, wiping out all life and leaving only the rules of cloud and sand relatively intact.
The source was the death Curse Cloud Guest received from an Exotic Object.
The Silvanus Tree was one such Exotic Object. Clearly, these special items had an extremely high potential; they were truly troublesome when turned into weapons.
Once a Divine Kingdom on the scale of Yunzhong Temple spiraled out of control, its world, now dominated by sand and cloud, began to constantly expand.
As its internal balance of rules completely collapsed, its ability to pull in outside Gravel Worlds was greatly enhanced. Thus, it gradually transformed into the Vortex World of today, forming the Ring Realm Group with itself at the center.
The tragedy of an ancient God and the fall of a long-standing civilization had created a living cataclysm in the World-Dimension Space.
Even if this dump truck was extremely crude, drafty, had a faulty engine, and was incredibly loud—a big truck was still a big truck.
Luh Yao opened the Golden Field interface and clicked [Sail].
On the game screen, the mist-shrouded Vortex World slowly turned under his cursor.
It dragged the various Gravel Worlds attached to it, like a mechanical monstrosity covered in spare parts, pushing forward in silence through the vast World-Dimension Space.
Luh Yao steered it for a while until an egg-shaped Divine Kingdom drifted by.
He brought up the [Eye of True Sight] to take a look.
...
[Ghost Realm]
[Divine Format]: Present.
[Divinity]: Meager as an Ant (21,872).
[Divine Body]: Gods Tier (82,433).
...
Luh Yao decided to use this passerby for an experiment.
He piloted the Vortex World toward the Ghost Realm. The other world seemed oblivious—or rather, its local God had completely failed to notice the behemoth bearing down on it.
As soon as the distance closed, the Ghost Realm was instantly locked in place by the Vortex World's Rule Power. The entire egg-shaped world was rapidly assimilated, beginning to revolve around Yunzhong Temple as the newest member of the Ring Realm Group.
Luh Yao nodded.
The first field test had just proven that the Vortex World could capture a Gods' Divine Country, as long as it wasn't too large.
Luh Yao thought.
'Hey buddy, just giving you a ride. I'll let you off when we find a good spot.'
'I've figured out how to pick people up, at least. As for letting you go... I'll have to work on that part.'
