Chapter 229 - 221: I Am a Dragon
Yaoshao often came to chat with Longg Ji, trying to counsel the young Dragon Descendant.
Longg Ji remained melancholic, but he began to read and talk to Yaoshao about the voices in his head.
As for the Chaotic Dragon Language, Longg Ji didn’t actually find it to be a burden.
"At first, I thought they were very noisy. But it’s actually many Dragons leaving messages. They left behind their stories and Magic, hoping that those who came after would remember them."
"Dragons may look mighty, but they have plenty of their own troubles."
"I heard one Dragon say that its scales often fell out, especially from its neck and head. This made it feel very embarrassed about its appearance. It even had to glue scales from other animals onto its bare dragon skin."
"That Dragon said it had an incurable disease. All the scales around its head and neck would eventually fall off, making it look like a plucked chicken... No Dragon Language Magic could stop the scales from peeling away."
"It finally found a Secret Medicine that could make thick, coarse black hair grow in the bald spots. But then its entire head became covered in long, dense hair, like a patch of weeds."
"The hair was impossible to remove and just grew longer and longer, eventually covering its head completely. This put it at a great disadvantage when fighting an enemy, and it ultimately died from its severe injuries."
"There was another Dragon who created a powerful Forbidden Magic, strong enough to destroy a country. But its destructive power was too immense. The Dragon was injured by its own blast and then ambushed and killed by a Deadly Enemy..."
Longg Ji recounted the regrets left behind by the Dragon Race.
Yaoshao listened with Patience.
The thing Yaoshao said most often to Longg Ji was,
"A young man should eat more, eat his fill, read plenty of books, and get good rest."
One day, Yaoshao stopped coming.
Longg Ji waited and waited in his room. Finally, he couldn’t bear it any longer and opened the door to ask the Scholars about what was happening outside.
From the Scholars, he learned that Prophet Yaoshao had passed away the day before.
Luh Yao saw a question mark appear above Longg Ji’s head; he didn’t seem to believe it. He went all the way outside and saw the Prophet’s tombstone behind the Divine Hall. Only then did the reality sink in.
He squatted by the tombstone, motionless for a long time.
Then, a tangled mess of lines suddenly appeared above Longg Ji’s head. A white light flashed around his body, his Life Value dropped by a chunk, and a ball of light encircled the tombstone.
A Ghost materialized above the tombstone. It was Yaoshao.
"Is this Dragon Language Magic?" An exclamation mark appeared over Ghost Yaoshao’s head.
A sad emoji with downturned eyes appeared above Longg Ji’s head. "Teacher Yaoshao, I’m sorry. If I had learned some Dragon Language Magic sooner, maybe I could have saved you."
"Don’t worry about it. Death isn’t something to be feared; it’s just a part of the journey."
The Ghost Prophet comforted him, "Besides, Lord Yao God has already built Saniluo for us. It’s a haven for Ghosts. I won’t disappear, I’ll just be living a different kind of life."
"Longg Ji, you possess a talent that many can only dream of."
Yaoshao continued, "Do you remember? You once said that a Dragon is a Dragon."
"The Dragon King is majestic because the Dragon Nest stands guard in the north. The cold Northern Continent has always been safe and stable. Even when a Divine War breaks out in some distant land, the flames of war cannot cross the border drawn by the Dragon Nest."
"People revere the Dragon Nest and praise the Dragon King because it is a loyal guardian of the God, the pillar of the Northern Continent, and the Watcher of the world’s rooftop. Everyone has seen all that it has done, and they are grateful for it in their hearts."
"You were born in the north, so you should know that Dragons weren’t always like this. Back then, everyone was filled with Fear of Dragons, and countless people wanted to challenge and conquer the Dragon Nest."
"Led by the Dwarf Adventurer Group, the High Furnace Wonders, many adventurer groups and Cultivators once tried to challenge the Dragon King."
"But now, if anyone still had such an idea, we would probably think they were either a madman or a fool."
Yaoshao said, "A Dragon is a Dragon, but this was also the Dragon’s choice. Between being a monster and being great, it chose the latter—a path more difficult, but filled with a sense of accomplishment."
"What I can tell you is this: when you prove to the whole world that what you do has an extraordinarily positive impact, inspiring many to follow in your footsteps, that feeling is truly wonderful..."
An exclamation mark appeared above Longg Ji’s head.
"Alright, I’ve been rambling for too long. That’s a common affliction of the elderly."
"So, farewell. I’m going to the south to see some old friends."
"Good luck."
The Ghost slowly faded away.
Two small figures appeared above Longg Ji’s head and began to fight each other.
Finally, the two small figures merged into one.
A lightbulb lit up over Longg Ji’s head, and he muttered to himself, "A Dragon is a Dragon, a Dragon is a Dragon..."
"A Dragon is a Dragon."
"A Dragon is a Dragon!"
"I am a Dragon!"
The young Dragon Descendant Prophet spread his arms and flapped his wide, bat-like wings. Though he couldn’t fly, his presence was completely different.
Luh Yao double-clicked his mouse and found that a new ability had been added to Longg Ji’s profile.
...
[Spirit Communication Curse]: A Dragon Language Magic that summons the Ghost of the Dead through a corpse or remains. Longg Ji triggers the Casting by sacrificing a portion of his blood.
...
Luh Yao found it completely absurd.
Although he was easily driven to isolation by others’ opinions, Longg Ji was a veritable genius when it came to Dragon Language Magic, even more so than Pasha of the Pure-Blooded Dragon Clan.
Luh Yao immediately gave him some encouragement.
The "LV UP↑" icon repeatedly lit up above Longg Ji’s head.
Luh Yao spent a total of 5,500 Faith to raise him to level 10, which was the most cost-effective stage.
Longg Ji knelt on the ground. "Great Yao God, thank you for your blessing. I will do everything in my power to use my abilities and become a Prophet like Teacher Yaoshao."
After rising to his feet, he glanced at the tombstone, then turned and entered the Divine Hall.
In the days that followed, Longg Ji rarely went outside.
He spent all his time sitting inside the Divine Hall, facing a corner Wall.
Oval-shaped speech bubbles of Chaotic Dragon Language constantly appeared above Longg Ji’s head.
He worked hard to decipher it, recording it on the Wall with a charcoal pencil. The entire Wall became covered in the various symbols and characters he wrote. Each time he finished recording a section, he would copy the contents onto a sheepskin scroll for preservation.
This project was immense, and the Dragon Language itself was full of Chaos. Organizing and categorizing it required a great deal of time and Patience.
...
Luh Yao turned his attention to Yao City itself.
The death of Prophet Yaoshao led many citizens to spontaneously wear the Holy Flower and hold torches, mourning before the Monument.
Because this Prophet had once said:
—Fire is our friend.
Compared to Yao City’s previous two Prophets, Yaoshao had turned the Holy City into the most stable city in the world. She built upon this foundation of stability, making gradual experiments that ultimately led to the creation of the Magic Potion.
She had fulfilled the goals and wishes she had when she became a Prophet, uniting Theology and Medical science. This had a huge impact on the entire world, and she served as a guide for the Extraordinary Era.
Luh Yao reflected for a moment.
Ever since Yaoshao became the Prophet of Yao City, he had never once had to worry about the city. He spent more time paying attention to the neighboring Yan City, Saniluo to the south, and even Canopy City in the experimental zone.
Perhaps subconsciously, he had already felt that Yao City would never have any problems.
A truly skilled warrior wins no glorious victories.
Unlike Shang Li and Tonghai, who had turned the tide against overwhelming disaster, Yaoshao had never allowed a threat to arise in the first place. This place was the most stable settlement in the entire world.
No matter how reluctant he was to see her go, Yaoshao had already laid down her burden and begun a new life in the south.
Luh Yao could only look forward.
Yaoshao’s departure did not affect the Order of Yao City.
The Divine Hall Council continued to operate as usual. Qubiluo’er inherited the position of Association Leader, leading the entire Divine Hall Council to continue researching Magic Potions, managing the city, and spreading and maintaining Divine Faith.
In the Divine Hall, Prophet Longg Ji focused on recording and the Translation of the Dragon Language.
From this point on in Yao City, the Prophet no longer had to manage the city’s affairs. Administration and Theology became further separated, allowing each to focus on its own area of expertise.
