Chapter 168 163: Everyone Has a Bright Future
Pawa sat at a table by the window, a charcoal pencil in hand, writing on a piece of paper.
"My dearest Jody, I've finished decorating the house in Saniluo. It's just as you asked: two stories, a great view of the surroundings, plenty of sunlight, and all the furniture is made of wood..."
"I still have plenty of money for my travels, and I've been eating and sleeping well every day. All my limbs and features are intact. Please stop having the Elves send me gems and pearls. Too many will only stir up resentment and jealousy..."
"The urban environment in Saniluo is completely different from how it used to be. Many incredible creatures live here, and Mayor Chapman keeps everything in perfect order."
"Many of the Extraordinary Life forms that come here are very wise, capable of expressing remarkable principles and profound insights. I once debated with a Cannibal Crab Scholar, who said that humans have eaten far more crabs than crabs have eaten humans."
"Why is it that humans can eat crabs, but crabs cannot eat humans?"
"That Scholar believed that the Crab Race developed Cannibal Crabs to gradually escape the fate of being constantly hunted and eaten by humans. Therefore, it is a form of resistance, and it forces humans to take them seriously. And it's true, the Cannibal Crabs in Saniluo don't eat people. Some of them are even vegetarians! Their favorite foods are honey and potatoes. Isn't that interesting?"
"Of course, it's also because Mr. Philos, the King of White Bones, presides here, so no one dares to cause trouble."
Pawa smoothed out the letter.
Just then, a gigantic eye appeared outside the window, peering in curiously.
Pawa opened the window and tossed a handful of grapes to it. "Hang on a minute, Big Guy. I'm almost done writing."
The Sand Worm outside opened its maw and devoured the grapes in one gulp, making a PUFF PUFF sound to show its gratitude. It then coiled its massive, serpentine body and continued to wait outside the house.
Pawa sat back down and continued to write with vigor.
"My dearest Jody, I look forward to our reunion in this beautiful and wondrous city. With love, your Pawa. A million kisses."
After finishing, he stuffed the letter into an envelope and walked over to the dining table.
A Little Elf, who had been waiting, had fallen asleep on a chair by the table. Its body was folded up like a baby's, its head resting on its feet.
"Hello?"
Pawa fanned it gently with the envelope.
The Little Elf shot up with a start and flew into the air. It had a human-like face, but its body was slender and it had a pair of transparent wings.
Pawa handed him the envelope. "Please deliver this letter to Lady Jody, the Tree Demon by Elf Lake in the Symbiotic Forest on the Southern New Continent."
"Lady Jody will pay you for your service. Thank you for your hard work."
The Little Elf glanced at the envelope, which had a drawing of the address on it.
It nodded, hugged the letter, and flew out the window.
Pawa put on his leather jacket and wide-brimmed hat, then pushed open the main door.
He hopped onto the Sand Worm's back and started making his way through the streets.
The city streets were bustling with activity.
Cannibal Crabs scuttled sideways along the street, muttering to each other all the while. They carried several wooden barrels on their pincers, which exuded the sweet smell of honey. They had clearly just bought some delicacies and were moving their crab legs with impatient speed.
By the canal, Frost Giant Monsters were unloading blocks of ice from oar-and-sail boats and storing them in wooden crates.
This was an important commodity in Saniluo. With the Ice Giant Monsters around, the ice wouldn't melt easily, making this the only place that could reliably transport intact blocks of ice.
Fish People were also surfacing from the water one after another, tossing their catches of fish, shrimp, and shellfish onto the bank. The Fish People on the shore packed the seafood into wooden basins, covered them with crushed ice, and carried them off to sell.
Pawa looked to the other side.
In the Dwarf-exclusive shop, many merchants had gathered. They were carefully picking and choosing, all looking for the most cost-effective weapons and equipment to buy and then resell in Yao City and Yan City for a profit.
The Burrower Monsters, meanwhile, had become the city's architects. Carrying packs and toolboxes, they would sketch on stones with charcoal pencils and hammer away around the houses, making them sturdier and more beautiful.
...
Pawa arrived at his destination.
The Divine Hall of Saniluo.
Unlike those in Yao City and Yan City, this Divine Hall was built by the Fish People. It was said to have originally been made entirely of clay and wood. After many renovations and continuous adjustments, it now looked brand new.
The surface of the Divine Hall was inlaid with numerous gems and pearls that shimmered with multicolored light. Because powdered fluorite had been mixed into the clay, it also emitted a soft glow at night.
A group of Fish People stood guard around it; they were the guardians of the Divine Hall.
Here, Pawa saw a man dressed in a long black robe, wearing three Holy Flowers on his chest.
Pawa jumped off the Sand Worm's rough back and hurried over, greeting him in the islander dialect, "Long time no see."
The other man returned his smile. "Long time no see, Pawa."
"You're a famous Traveling Scholar now. *Pawa's Wondrous Adventure* is beloved in both Yao City and Yan City. Many of the young Scholars at the Divinity School are reading it."
"I'm just recording the stories everyone has experienced."
Pawa said with a smile, "Qubiluo'er, you must be the youngest Three-Flower Scholar, right?"
The first time they met was outside the Divine Hall in Yao City.
Back then, Pawa had just regained his freedom, and Qubiluo'er had just graduated from the Divinity School.
Many years had passed in a flash, and the two had walked down different paths in life.
"How long are you staying this time?" Pawa asked.
"I'm returning to Yao City tomorrow."
Qubiluo'er said, "I came on behalf of the Yaoshao Prophet to discuss some matters of inter-city cooperation with Mayor Chapman."
"And also... to formally invite you to join the Divinity School. If you're willing, you can immediately become a certified Three-Flower Scholar of the Divinity School."
Pawa politely declined.
Qubiluo'er seemed to have expected this and didn't press the matter.
"By the way, I heard there's a secret society in Yao City called the [Flame Society]. Do you know any details about it?"
Pawa asked curiously, "They say it's a group of Scholars who want to directly study Extraordinary Power, and even perform special Mysticism rituals and create certain potions."
"I've heard of it."
Qubiluo'er nodded. "But this society is more like a rumor. There's no concrete information. It's not even certain if the organization actually exists."
"What about the Dragon Nest, though? Is what the Dwarves are saying credible?"
Pawa spread his hands. "I haven't gone to visit this Dragon King yet. Speaking of which, some Scholars from your Divinity School have been there. Wouldn't it be better to ask them?"
"Those guys didn't even meet a Dragon. They just saw a Cursed Snowman..." Qubiluo'er looked exasperated. "And the High Furnace Strange People Adventure Group is always so elusive, it's hard to even confirm any information."
"Well, Adventurers are always on the road."
"See you next time, then."
"See you next time."
The two said their goodbyes.
Pawa once again mounted the Sand Worm's back and hurried toward the docks.
On a certain oar-and-sail boat, his old friends from the [High Furnace Wonders] were waiting for him. They were about to visit the Dragon Nest again. This time, however, it was a secret mission that could not be mentioned to anyone.
And in *Pawa's Wondrous Adventure: Dragon Nest Chapter*, this extraordinary journey would be recorded in full.
'Yao God, please protect us!'
Pawa prayed silently in his heart.
'I hope this trip goes smoothly and everyone comes back in one piece.'
...
Watching Pawa's receding figure, Qubiluo'er was lost in thought.
He pulled up his hood, walked into the streets of Saniluo City, and quickly disappeared among the Sand Worms and Giant Monsters.
In a dimly lit room, Qubiluo'er took off his Scholar's coat, revealing the coarse linen clothes underneath.
Four men and women were already inside the room.
"Since everyone's here, let's begin."
Qubiluo'er said, "It would be best for everyone to reduce their activities for now. The Flame Society has attracted outside attention."
Everyone frowned.
"Does that mean we have to stop the Magic Potion experiments?"
"Of course not."
Qubiluo'er said decisively, "Lady Yaoshao has repeatedly stressed that the Magic Potion experiments must not stop. This will be the first time humanity has used knowledge to touch Extraordinary Power."
"The [Anesthesia] it provides might just usher in a new era."
The four of them sighed with emotion. "Lady Yaoshao has researched for thirty years, combining pharmacology and Theology, all for this first Magic Potion."
Someone asked worriedly, "But by doing this... won't we be blaspheming against a God?"
"If a God wishes to punish us, then let it be. I believe our God will be proud of us, his subjects!"
Qubiluo'er said firmly, "Creating Magic Potions from the extracts of Extraordinary Creatures is for the sake of saving more patients. It can help them treat wounds, remove rotten flesh... Someone has to do this."
"The purpose of the Flame Society's existence is to bring fire to those in darkness; this is our ultimate goal. A God cannot attend to every matter personally. We must learn to light the fire ourselves. This is also the trial and revelation that Yao God has given us..."
"Everyone, let us begin!"
...
In front of his screen, Luh Yao watched all of this from his bird's-eye view, feeling rather gratified.
Yaoshao had not forgotten her original intention, always remembering that she wanted to combine pharmacology and Theology to cure people. She had figured out this path of Magic Potions, truly living up to her name as a genius.
The Scholars, led by the Divine Hall Council, cautiously experimenting with the naturally existing Extraordinary Realm, and the Ascetics, observing and comprehending a God's Miracles, represent two different directions and systems.
The former gathers the Wisdom and knowledge of a group, while the latter is about individual ascetic cultivation and challenging one's limits.
They all have bright futures.
Luh Yao's evaluation of them was.
Hurry it up.
