Chapter 129 - 124: Era Update
From Tyrant Selena, Luh Yao learned the rest of Isabel’s dark history in the Abyss.
It was time to have a proper talk about this.
Luh Yao clicked on Isabel’s avatar. She was patrolling in the air, riding her Magic Staff.
Only then did he notice that Isabel had leveled up to 30. Unquestionably, the fierce battle in the Abyss had earned her a great deal of experience, but unfortunately, the Forest Sword’s creature-creation ability hadn’t triggered.
With the upgrade to [Forest Sword], Isabel’s stats had been updated once again.
...
[Apostle Lv30] Forest Sword Isabelle
Life Value: 8404/8404
Mana Value: 1089/1089
Damage: 52
Defense: 50
Speed: 20
...
Aside from the direct boost to her combat stats, two of her abilities had also grown stronger.
[Wisdom] had reached LV30.
[Forest Sword] had also been upgraded to LV3. The attribute bonus increased to Damage +25, Defense +25, and Speed +5, while its Mana cost per use also increased to 150.
Isabel landed and knelt in salute. "My Lord."
Luh Yao typed a line of text, then deleted it all. He typed another paragraph, but in the end, still felt it wasn’t quite right or appropriate.
As a God, giving orders was easy.
But having a heart-to-heart with a subordinate? That was truly one of Luh Yao’s blind spots.
Isabel spoke up first. "My Lord, I am deeply sorry for causing you so much trouble."
"I’d suspected for a while that my identity wasn’t ordinary. I possess a special Forest Elemental Ability and have a very keen perception of many things, making me clearly different from a normal Apostle."
"Now I finally know for sure. It turns out I’m a Divine Body, separated from the Forest God."
"Please, destroy me."
"It’s the only way to eliminate this potential threat."
"You already have several Apostles under your command now, most of whom are stronger than I am. They will surely be a great boon to your Fire of Faith."
Luh Yao’s heart was filled with mixed emotions.
The Sailor Li of the past was a wicked Witch, skilled in honeyed words and deception.
The Isabel of today was a down-to-earth Apostle, meticulous and earnest in her duties.
One had to look to the future.
Besides, he and the White God had already ruined the Forest God’s three-body unification plan. That Chapter was closed.
Luh Yao typed furiously, rebuking Isabel for her suicidal, nihilistic tendencies.
He stated that as the model Apostle under his command, she had to shoulder her responsibilities and continue her work to further strengthen the Fire of Faith.
"My Lord, please punish me for my ignorance."
Isabel immediately admitted her mistake.
"Don’t let it happen again. Now, to business."
An exclamation mark appeared over Isabel’s head. She suddenly said, "My Lord, I’ve been observing from the sky recently and noticed some changes in the world."
"The world is expanding at an accelerated rate."
"The outlines of some landmasses and floating islands have appeared at some of the borders, but those areas are under border protection, so I can’t see them clearly or get close."
Luh Yao immediately clicked the minimap to switch his perspective.
He first selected the northern border.
Just as Isabel had said, the border of the Fragment World had expanded outward significantly. A blurry white mass was emerging from the boundary, looking like a continent or a cluster of islands.
The thought of a New Continent and islands filled Luh Yao with a little anticipation.
Perhaps new peoples or Extraordinary Creatures would be born there.
All of that meant population and Faith.
Luh Yao looked down upon the world’s entire borderline.
It wasn’t just the north; the borders in every direction—east, west, south, and north—were rapidly moving outward and evolving. For some unknown reason, the world’s evolution had clearly accelerated.
"Continue observing, and find the reason for this change."
Luh Yao gave Isabel the order.
...
Just as Luh Yao was about to go to sleep, a notification suddenly popped up in the simulator.
[Rule Power has entered an accelerated cycle. This world is about to undergo an Era Update. All Gods in this world will be forcibly ejected and put to sleep. Estimated update time: 72 hours.]
[Update Countdown: 60:00.]
An hourglass appeared in the center of the screen, with a numerical countdown next to it.
Luh Yao stared, stunned for a moment.
’Is this... a world version update?’
He switched his perspective to ask Selena, whose memories were relatively intact.
"My Lord, an Era refers to a changeover of the world. Different Eras have different world forms."
Selena said, "After an Era changes, the world usually undergoes a series of transformations. The climate and geography will change, some powerful groups might decline, and weaker groups might enter their age of prosperity."
"New Races are born, old powers are wiped out... these are all things that accompany an Era change, and they’re impossible to predict..."
Luh Yao understood immediately.
The Pixel World was about to start a new version.
Come to think of it, Earth’s "version updates" were pretty similar: the Cambrian explosion, the Ordovician extinction of primitive life, the Permian mass extinction of marine life, the reign of dinosaurs in the Jurassic period...
A new patch, a new meta. Survivors had to quickly figure out the new state of the world; it was a competition to see who could adapt best.
With only an hour left, Luh Yao quickly made arrangements.
First, he assigned a task to Selena.
"While the God is away, you will be the head Apostle. The other Apostles will follow your command."
Luh Yao told her to maintain the stability of the Believers as much as possible and to minimize any potential losses caused by the Era change.
A smiley face appeared over Selena’s head, pleased to be entrusted with such responsibility.
"Rest assured, My Lord, I will carry out your command!"
Next was deploying his "troops."
The world update would take three days, during which he might not be able to log into the simulator at all.
Therefore, Luh Yao used the Divine Hall to summon Isabel and the Blood Knight to the real world to ensure his own safety. While there didn’t seem to be any immediate danger, having two bodyguards made him feel more secure.
For the last half hour, Luh Yao watched every movement in the Pixel World.
He kept suspecting he had missed something.
It reminded Luh Yao of that feeling when leaving the house—always sensing the door was unlocked and sometimes being unable to resist going back to check. But it was usually just overthinking; muscle memory had already taken care of everything.
As the countdown on the screen hit zero...
The entire simulator shut down automatically.
Luh Yao tried clicking the *God Simulator* client, which opened to the main menu. He clicked [Continue Game], and the screen went completely black.
Two lines of text appeared on the screen.
[Era Update in progress...]
[Update Countdown: 71:50:44]
Back on the main menu, there was also a [New Game] option.
Luh Yao tried moving his mouse over it but found that [New Game] was grayed out, indicating it was unavailable.
Being forcibly disconnected felt like a weight was suddenly lifted from Luh Yao’s shoulders.
No longer having to stare at the little pixel people of an entire world, a lot of his worries vanished.
Luh Yao put on Zhou Xingchi’s *National Treasure Agent Linglingqi*, preparing to relax with a classic comedy. But he found he couldn’t focus on the movie he could usually watch endlessly, his thoughts drifting elsewhere.
’The Era Update won’t cause volcanoes and earthquakes or anything, will it?’
’Or will it go straight into an ice age, with a massive temperature drop?’
’Or something even more drastic, like an asteroid impact...’
If nature so much as lifted a finger, humanity would be brought to its knees.
Even modern society struggles to cope with natural disasters; the little pixel people were probably going to suffer heavy losses...
’What am I even thinking?!’
Luh Yao rubbed his face with his hands.
This was probably what parents felt like when sending their child to kindergarten for the first time.
First came the happiness, then came the worry.
He decided to find something to do to distract himself.
As Luh Yao paced around the room, his gaze suddenly fell on something outside the window.
On the lamppost in the parking alley, the letter was still hanging, swaying in the wind.
Luh Yao looked at Isabel. "Take the white horse. Go get that letter."
"Yes, My Lord."
Under the High-Level Disguise of the [Ghost White Horse] in its Artifact form, Isabel flew up on her Magic Staff and deftly retrieved the letter.
To be safe, Luh Yao had Isabel open the letter outside while he watched remotely through her eyes.
The envelope was made of ordinary kraft paper, and inside was a single sheet of white stationery.
The paper read—
Miss Mary:
A lingering crossover zone has appeared nearby, and some ordinary citizens have gone missing after wandering into it. I sincerely hope you can lend a hand in searching for the missing people with me. I would be incredibly grateful. If you are willing to volunteer, please contact me.
Wishing you all the best and good health.
Songx Shiyi
Luh Yao remembered the poster he had seen downstairs.
Growing up, Luh Yao had seen many missing person notices; disappearances seemed to be a common occurrence.
Because there was usually no process or reason given, it was hard to get a tangible sense that someone had completely vanished or been harmed. It was like all the workers in the world—you never knew why they left their jobs, nor what their ultimate fate would be.
To Luh Yao, Songx Shiyi was like a human-shaped strategy guide for the simulator. Many of his questions could perhaps only be answered by her.
For example.
’What is a crossover zone?’
Luh Yao decided he would try contacting her.
