Chapter 264: The void arbiters reckoning
The sleek strike shuttle sliced through the swirling rivers of grey void-debris like a jagged tooth of silver light. Inside the cockpit, the crimson-gold alarms of the fleeing Progenitor command node flashed rhythmically across the instrument panels, reflecting in Solaria’s sharp, focused golden eyes.
"It’s trying to punch a secondary tunnel through the dimensional barrier," Solaria reported, her hands flying across the shuttle’s tactical guidance array as she locked onto the fleeing clockwork eye. "If it reaches the outer conduit, it will relay the telemetry data straight to the Progenitor Council."
"Let it try," Vetra snorted from the pilot’s seat, her heavy hands gripping the manual flight controls with wild, eager strength. She banked the shuttle hard to the left, narrowly dodging a colossal chunk of a dead frozen world that floated aimlessly in the vacuum. "I’ve been itching to crack open one of those clockwork husks ever since we stepped out of the Firmament."
From the co-pilot seat, Lyrielle drew back the string of her elder-wood bow. The arrow materialized instantly, glowing with a brilliant, condensed crescent of silver moon-light that hummed with pure divine authority.
"Target lock confirmed," Lyrielle murmured, her violet eyes narrowing. "Shall I clip its wings, or blow it straight to atoms?"
"Don’t destroy it completely," a smooth, dark velvet voice echoed directly into their minds.
On the central tactical screen of the shuttle, Vince’s image flickered softly through the citadel’s remote projection relay. He sat comfortably upon his obsidian throne back on the bridge, his dark amethyst eyes calm and unyielding.
"Bring the command core intact," Vince commanded quietly. "I want to introduce its master to the laws of my domain."
"Understood, Sovereign!" Vetra laughed, slamming her foot down on the thruster pedal.
The strike shuttle surged forward with a blinding flash of acceleration, closing the gap between them and the massive, multi-faceted clockwork eye in a matter of seconds. The enemy node fired a desperate volley of violet entropy beams, but Solaria channeled her purified solar aura through the shuttle’s front shields, absorbing the heavy blasts and converting the kinetic shockwave into a blinding burst of golden light that temporarily blinded the enemy’s tracking arrays.
"Now, Lyrielle!" Solaria called out.
Lyrielle released her bowstring. The moon-light arrow split into three distinct projectiles, screaming through the void and striking the three primary rotational rings of the clockwork eye with surgical precision.
CLANG— CRACK— HISS—
The immense geometric node shuddered violently, its rotation grinding to an immediate, sparking halt as the spatial stabilizers were forcefully severed. The massive structure drifted dead in the center of the grey void, leaking torrents of grey spatial dust and blue electrical arcs.
"Boarding tubes deployed," Vetra announced with a wide, feral grin. She unbuckled her harness, grabbing her dark-iron broadsword from the rack behind her. "Come on, royal highness. Let’s go collect our prize."
Moments later, the airlock of the strike shuttle hissed open against the inner hull of the Progenitor node.
The interior was nothing like a standard starship or a celestial palace; it was a cold, alien labyrinth of shifting obsidian geometry, floating metallic runes, and absolute silence. There was no air here, no warmth, and no organic life—only the humming resonance of pure outer-entropy laws designed to erase any intruder down to their molecular memory.
Except those laws didn’t apply inside Vince’s shadow.
As Solaria stepped through the threshold, the twilight amethyst mark over her chest flared brightly, emitting a dense, warm aura that pushed back the freezing void-entropy like a shield of absolute light. Vetra marched ahead, her heavy boots clanging against the metallic grating as she swung her broadsword casually, shattering a barrier of automated defensive drones with a single, brutal backhand sweep.
"This way," Lyrielle whispered, her silver hair shimmering as she tracked the residual energy signature toward the central core chamber.
They breached the heavy obsidian double-doors of the central sanctum with a synchronized kick from Vetra. The massive doors caved inward, shattering into a million glowing shards.
Inside the sprawling, cathedral-like core chamber, floating above a vast abyss of swirling grey nothingness, hovered the true controller of the Purgation Vanguard: The Void Arbiter.
It was a towering, humanoid entity composed of shifting, crystalline geometry and liquid obsidian plates. It possessed no face, only a single, massive vertical slit that burned with a cold, pale-grey light—the supreme eye of the Progenitor outer courts.
"UNAUTHORIZED BIOLOGICAL ENTITIES DETECTED," the Arbiter’s voice boomed directly into their minds, carrying a crushing wave of mental pressure that caused the metallic floor beneath their feet to fracture. "YOU OPERATE OUTSIDE THE SANCTIONED PARAMETERS OF THE OUTER VOID. YOUR EXISTENCE VIOLATES THE LAW OF ENTROPY. PREPARING ABSOLUTE ERASURE."
Solaria felt her breath catch in her throat for a fraction of a second. The sheer metaphysical weight radiating from the Void Arbiter was suffocating; it was an entity that had unmade entire star-systems simply by declaring them obsolete.
"Erase us?" Vetra scoffed, stepping forward and planting her heavy broadsword into the metal deck with a resounding thud. A fierce, crimson-gold dragon aura exploded around her shoulders, completely nullifying the entity’s psychic pressure. "You talk too much for a pile of floating glass."
The Void Arbiter raised its crystalline arms, and the grey abyss below surged upward in a towering tsunami of pure void-entropy, rushing toward them with the intent to wipe their bodies and souls from existence.
"Let it try," Lyrielle said calmly. She didn’t draw a bow; instead, she raised her hand, channeling the deep, resonant connection she shared with Vince’s absolute domain.
A pulse of deep twilight amethyst energy swept through the chamber, originating directly from the mark on Solaria’s chest and echoing through Vetra and Lyrielle.
When the wave of grey void-entropy collided with the girls’ barrier, it didn’t crash—it dissolved. The supreme laws of entropy, designed by the ancient Progenitor architects to unmake reality, hit Vince’s domain and instantly shattered against his absolute authority.
The Void Arbiter’s single vertical eye dilated in shock. "IMPOSSIBLE. LOCAL REALITY LAWS CANNOT OVERRIDE PROGENITOR DECREES. WHAT ARE YOU?"
"We belong to the Sovereign," Solaria stepped forward, her golden eyes blazing with fierce, unyielding pride as her solar shield flared to life. She raised her hand, unleashing a concentrated beam of purified solar light directly into the center of the entity’s crystalline chest.
The beam struck with the force of a collapsing star. The Arbiter’s chest plate fractured instantly, spraying glowing blue data-blood across the chamber.
Before the entity could recover, Vetra was already there. With a roaring laugh, the dragon-kin enforcer vaulted into the air, bringing her massive dark-iron broadsword down in a devastating overhead arc that cleaved the Arbiter’s primary core structure clean in two.
CRASH— BOOM—
The towering geometric entity froze, its glowing vertical eye flickering wildly before dimming into absolute darkness. The shifting obsidian plates shattered, and the massive clockwork frame began to collapse inward upon itself as the core suffered a catastrophic system failure.
"Data-core secured," Lyrielle announced smoothly, plucking a glowing crystal shard from the collapsing wreckage before it could dissolve into the void.
Solaria let out a slow, steady breath, the adrenaline slowly fading from her veins as the residual twilight energy settled comfortably back into her origin matrix. She looked down at her hands—they didn’t tremble anymore. She wasn’t the fragile princess of a quarantined domain; she was a vanguard consort of the true sovereign of existence.
"Let’s report back to Vince," Vetra grinned, slinging her broadsword back over her shoulder as she turned toward the exit. "The Progenitor Council is about to find out what happens when you send trash into Vince’s backyard."
Back on the bridge of the celestial-jade citadel, Vince watched the telemetry feed vanish as the Progenitor node went permanently dark.
Barnaby cheered softly, floating up from her perch beside his throne to wrap her translucent arms around his neck. "They broke it! Vetra and Solaria broke the big clockwork eye!"
Vince caught her easily, a dark, velvet chuckle rumbling in his chest as his amethyst eyes locked onto the infinite, starless expanse of the Outer Abyss stretching out beyond the forward viewport.
"That was only the vanguard," Vince murmured, his voice carrying an absolute, unyielding promise that echoed across the entire citadel. "Let the Progenitor Council send whatever they want. Every realm they hide behind... belongs to us now."
